I swear to god, if this book uses the phrase, "This position is great for breast men" one more time...

This is not a good book to be reading in conjunction with Female Chauvinist Pigs. I hate books that just assume you're a cis-gendered exhibitionist.

Once I finally remember who recommended this book to me they're getting a punch in the dick.

Oh man, this book. It suggests if you want to get your woman in the mood you should buy her something nice. "Bitch, I bought you stuff, where's my sex?" Nothing makes for good sex like an exchange of goods and services. I think I was about done when it said, not sure what he really likes? Consult porn! Yes, great advice. Nobody gets left out or mislead when you take sex lessons from porn!

This book goes between assuming you don't know very basic things and assuming you do. It's like, who's your target audience man? People who already know things or people who don't? It's like entire paragraphs got lost in the editing or something.

God, this book is written in a very stream-of-consciousness way that makes me feel like I'm reading someone's journal more than a well-researched book. And there are all these lame "historical facts" thrown in at random points that are extremely distracting.

Damn this book. It's like I've had all these puzzle pieces for years (I already knew a lot of this information) and this book came along and was like, "You realize all these pieces fit together and form a bigger picture right?" and then I watched the authors put it together and I felt like an idiot for not figuring it out myself.

Damn it man, I can't stop talking about this book. So reliant to everything. "It's funny you should say that because I'm reading this book that..." I'm so obnoxious. This is why I remembered I never finished it. Russ asked me a question and I was like, "Well bonobo monkeys...wait! My book!"

This book is taking forever to read because it's one of those books where you want to remember all the information because you know you're going to need to recall it in later conversation. It has SO MANY good arguments for why our current world views aren't supported by history and science. Some of them I've heard before, but it's good to have a refresher, and some are news to me.

wtf? I forgot I was reading this book. And it's really good. My book reading habits are a metaphor for my life.

So far this book hasn't told me anything I haven't figured out on my own, but I LOVE IT. It seems like the kind of book that's the perfect tool for explaining money and politics to someone who doesn't get it. The intro blew my freakin' mind. I believe it was written in 1997, and it sounds like it could have been written this year. Also, I am so depressed by the fact that nothing ever changes.

I read this when I was about 14, and I have a lot of strange, foggy memories of it. So I figured I'd reread it to get an idea of what I actually think.

I think I know why people like this book the least. (spoiler?) It's the same problem I have with Star Trek, when there are episodes about Romulans or Klingons. I'm like, "Oh, here we go, war stuff" and I check out a little bit. It doesn't make those episodes BAD, they're just not my cup of tea. I like the character development and politics. War stuff is more boring. It's not unreadable though.

Gah! I want to say something about this book but I don't want to give spoilers. (warning: vague spoiler) It's like the first two books (and especially the second) are a poignant criticism of capitalism, but the last book explores another political system...and it's all so wrist-slittingly depressing.

Russ tells me that people are saying the second book was the best book of the trilogy, so I don't have high hopes.

Alright, this book is better than the first. The writing is still awkward, but the plot itself is solid. I really like it.

The first 50 or so pages were so poorly written it was distracting, but it picked up. I actually really like the politics of the book so far. You finally start to see how ugly the people of the capital really are. And of course there's more of that internal struggle from a female perspective stuff. Being coerced into things while trying to hang on to your identity.

I can't get over the terrible names. They're so over-the-top awful. It feels like a joke I'm not entirely privy to. Peeta Mellark, "the baker's son"? I can't stop thinking about how every time I eat a pita pocket I'm sad that I'm not eating a sub sandwich. And that is pretty much how I feel about Peeta. I'm dead serious when I say my entire reading experience is being colored by feelings about pita bread.

So far Rue has been described at black, not once, but TWICE. So that makes all those "stick to the book" people twice as oblivious.

So I bought this book having no idea what it was, because while I was at the bookstore I picked up a copy and said, "What is this?" and a 14 year old girl whipped around and was like, "THE BEST BOOK, EVER!" And I was like, eh, for nine bucks why not? I'm not gonna lie, it's really poorly written. So much so that I barely made it passed page five. But I'm sticking with it.

I'm on page 54 of 264 of A Bad Idea I'm About to D...: I know I need to stop starting new books and finish the half dozen I'm already reading. Stop judging me. I started reading this because of an interview I heard with Chris Gethard on Citizen Radio. As a New Jersey transplant I find his stories effing hysterical.
