Yeah. I had to take a break from the dry tale of Abominable to read about a haunted merry go round. There's only so many British lords and dinner parties I can handle before, I just want break away for a while.

I was immediately on board, then the characters must meet a Lady Bromely on a very rich estate. Then the book details about the architect of a garden, a painter of the mansion, and the history of the Bromely family. It gives back into dry boredom that's hard to get thru bringing back memories of The Terror. Which makes me so wonder, is the author pompous himself or does it only show up in this historical novels?

I did not like the Terror and I think it boils down to the fact I didn't care much or could relate to the pompous members of the British Royal Navy. But with this book it's following rock climbers who r more down to Earth. I feel that I may enjoy this one more.

So the 1st story in this a anthology concerns a biker gang. Something I care little about. But somehow Joe made the bikers human enough that I actually started caring toward the end.

Not a big fan of biker stories. But this is Joe Hill . I'm pretty sure this 1st story will have pay off.

I hate to say this series wore out It's welcome by book 2. But it might have. I'm just not as hooked as I was with book 1. I mean it's not bad at all by any means, it's just lacking something to keep me engaged.

Got to hand it to the author. He's good at balancing a bunch of moving puzzle pieces and tying them together in a finale perfectly. That's hard to do once must less two books in a row.

I began to feel this was going no where, and was actually getting bored. Then it seemed like the book was reading my bc it just decided a new king is in charge and his 1st order is genocide and/or removal of m all minorities. The stakes have just suddenly went from a 1 or 2 to a 10 real fast. Thanks book, I needed that. I needed that sense of adventure again. Going so long without conflict was a bore.

Wow. Sayyid really hates America and everything about it, doesn't he? I mean I can see where he's coming from and reason out why he's bitter. But to hate everything? Like he passes a random elderly woman in the street and refers to her as an ugly old horrible woman. I mean come on. There's such a strong awful hate in him toward Americans, that I wondered why he bothered to take a job in America in the first place.

So In a murder trial a woman is the prosecutor, defendant, and only witness. And that just does not work. It feels like a Looney Tune. The world is ending and characters r all trying to escape danger or save love ones, and this happens?! Feels like a TV channel was suddenly changed from a suspenseful thriller to a cartoon. Pulls me way out of the story bc this is down right silly.

This series isn't all that groundbreaking, but it's fun. And sometimes nice to read something fun and light hearted.

So the whole legion arc is over with? The consciousness devouring serial killer soul has been yanked out of Rif? Such a shame. That was such a fascinating story arc that I thought was a real highlight of the first book. But maybe there will be a new better twist in store in the future.

I'm trying to remember who does what power wise. Alaina is controls fire. Esmeralda can see things by touch I think. Mavek I can't remember. Verica controls darkness. Rif is basically legion from xmen. And then Wayden is really good at controlling wolves sometimes but works well with chipmunks. Omg! Wayden is the high fantasy version of squirrel girl. I just realized that.

Light hearted action fantasy should be a nice pallet cleanser after being hooked on the Heartland trilogy for a solid month. It's time to move on. And hopefully onto something not as heavy or dark as Cael's adventure.
