So is this what adulthood is to Pullman? A world of broken people, sadness, and tagedy? Is that why in his past novels, he focused on children and their wide eyed wonder, b/c all the glee and goodness is gone afterwards? I hope not. But this book is so depressing, I'm beginning to wonder if this author is okay. Its such a far cry from everything else. Why would he do this to Lyra, or the great world he created?
