Argh, it figures. Hit List is finally on hold for me and the library is closed tomorrow for the holiday. I'm really looking forward to it, in a "I'm sick in the head" sort of way.

This book is boring. Why did I decide to read it?

(But I bet she grows a backbone somewhere down the road ... probably because of someone else pushing her, most likely a boy)

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Discmans? What year was this book written in? ::flips to look:: 2003? I'm confused.

"I know what theory of mind is," Holloway said. "You know who else has theory of mind? Monkeys. And some species of squid. Even Carl here tries to figure out what I'm thinking." From the floor, Carl, hearing his name, thumped his tail on the floor a couple of times. "Squids don't make sandwiches," Isabel said. "I doubt there's been a scientific study on that matter," Holloway said. "The bread gets soggy."

Isabel came up to the skimmer as soon as it landed. "We need to talk," she said. "Yeah, we do," Holloway said, exiting the vehicle. "You think you could stop telling people that I let Carl detonate explosives?" "What?" Isabel said. "Stop telling people I let Carl set off explosives," Holloway said. "You do let Carl set off explosives," Isabel said. "Yes, but you don't have to tell people about it."

Baby wrapped her tiny fuzzy arms around Holloway's arm and sighed, piteously and hungrily. Two minutes later the sandwich had been sliced into six equal pieces, and each of the Fuzzys was enjoying its first smoked turkey and Swiss on wheat, chittering in delight with each bite.

Pinto was standing in front of him, eyes imploring. "Nice try," Holloway said. "But you're not the cute one." He picked up the sandwich. Baby got up, walked over next to Pinto, and employed that same look. "Oh, come on," Holloway said. "That's completely not fair." Baby walked over to Holloway and lightly touched his arm, eyes wide and pleading. "Stop that. Your evil mystic cuteness has no effect on me.

Holloway couldn't decide whether he had adopted them or whether it was the other way around. Actually he suspected that the family had adopted Carl, and that he was just sort of a bonus: the best darn butler a little fuzzy ever had.

"You know, Jack, I'm not one for reading too much into things, but even I can see that when you name a hill for your girlfriend, and then you have that hill strip-mined down to rubble, it's not a good sign for the relationship."

"Well, life is like that sometimes," Isabel said. "We learn things too late, and then we don't get to use them."

"I can't help but think that in some way, I'm just not getting through to you. We've gone over this how many times now? A dozen? Two? And yet every time we come out here it's like you forget everything you've been taught. It's really very discouraging. Tell me you get what I'm saying to you." Carl stared up at Holloway and barked. He was a dog.

"You'll develop a taste through continued exposure," Johnson explained. "You'll learn to appreciate its edge." I have a feeling there's more than wine in that glass.

"I had firsthand knowledge of werewolves. Now, I was looking for hands-on. Call me werecurious, but if my mission was to arouse the boy with the beast within, I'd have to tantalize his monster." Ha! Look! The name of the book! (Anyone else get excited when this happens?)

"He even knew when I started my period, and not just because he could smell it." Now THAT'S a close relationship. Yikes.

She inclined her head slightly. "Don't trust me either." I gulped. There was something very hot about being a little afraid of a girl.

"Someone had hacked three women apart and darned them back together as a mix-and-match."

"We're very high up here, aren't we?" "Well, you certainly are. Theia, I need you to wake up." "Did you know that I have never seen a penis?" He laughed again. "When you wake up, you are going to hate yourself."

"This isn't a crush; it's an obsession. You are never not in my thoughts. Your scent carries across a room and paralyzes me with longing. I don't want to hold your hand. Part of me wants to set you on fire and hold you while the flame consumes us both, to eat your heart so I know that only I possess it entirely. Are you scared now? Does your human mind comprehend the danger at last?"

"Darkness lives in me, Theia. Inside of me. Like a sickness. And right next to it, intertwined with it, are me feelings for you. If I act on one, I'll act on the others. The darkness in me wants you the way a black hole eats stars. I dream of tasting you, devouring you." His eyes darkened terribly.
