"What do you think of Haden?" "Honestly? He's out of my league. I can't get a handle on the guy. Sometimes he seems so unto you, and other times he's ... sort of the Antichrist." "That about sums him up," I agreed. "How do you feel about him? That's the important thing." I shrugged. "Up is down, down is up." "And that means ...?" "I'm probably half in love with a boy I don't really like."

I'm liking this enough that I think I just want to buy my own copy. It's due back at the library today but it's obviously not getting there, and I always feel guilty about late fees so I'll probably take it back tomorrow, my head hanging in shame.

"What I would do if I saw him was still a mystery. I mean, I'd dreamt he was some sort of ringmaster in a macabre circus. And that we waltzed without touching. And that our hearts beat as one. I don't spend a lot of time talking to boys, but even I know that was too much too soon." I'm glad she recognizes that.

"Much like the man standing nest to me, they were dressed formally-black tuxedos and top hats. But where their faces should have been, instead they bore only flesh with no faces." Creepy!

Blah. Such a cool premise ruined by a terribly sappy romance and a predictable ending.

I get that authors want to make their characters relatable, but does every teen girl have to feel like she's ugly and boring? And of course she has a sister who is gorgeous and looks nothing like her - at least they don't hate each other. We all have our insecurities, but why can't the girl think she's worth the attention of the cute boy without supernatural forces being in play?

I've tried to read three completely different books now but none of them are holding my attention. Time to kill some zombies.

In case you were wondering if only authors complain about negative reviews,
here's an example
in the video game industry. Yeah ... I think 2K might want to hire a different PR firm now ...

This is pretty much a Dexter clone, which I kind of had a feeling it would be.

"When a man you know to be of sound mind tells you his recently deceased mother has just tried to climb in his bedroom window and eat him, you only have two basic options. You can smell his breath, take his pulse, and check his pupils to see if he's ingested anything nasty, or you can believe him."
