Ok, I'm confused. Why is this series called Razorland?

There were different kinds of strength. I knew that now. It didn't always come from a knife or a willingness to fight. Sometimes it came from endurance, where the well ran deep and quiet. Sometimes it came from compassion and forgiveness.

Maybe the flush in her cheeks didn't come from cold. They could've been pressed together in the shadow of the trees, whispering secrets. The idea didn't make me like her less, but I did feel sad and heavy, as if I'd lost something without ever knowing what it was.

It made me angry. He didn't understand the tenet: 'The dead are past saving.' You could miss someone, but it did no good to fixate on loss. I wished I had the ready words of a Breeder or the ability to comfort with a soft touch. I didn't. Instead I had daggers and determination. That would have to do.

"Day by day, I don't know if I'll have food to eat or a place to sleep, if I'll wake up with something trying to kill me. It's hard. And it will get harder, the farther we get from known territory. We have no idea what's out there. None. And either you're ready to start over ... or you're not. No more of this. If I didn't let go of what I've lost, I'd go crazy. I suggest you two do the same."

We lived in a dead world. The idea if we went far enough, we might find living people, who had fires and homes and food to eat—I might as well wish for those pale, lovely winged people to come down from the stars and take us there, as long as I was hoping for things beyond my reach. But giving up wasn't an option either. I'd put my faith in Fade's sire, and the fact that his stories must be true.

Eventually we came upon an enormous structure built from gray rocks. It too had been claimed by the green; a web of leaves wound up the sides. A vast number of broken steps led up to the gaping doors, and two giant stone monsters guarded the entrance. I eyed them warily. We all stopped and stared. Unlike the others, this place had an air of majesty, even in its disrepair. I could tell great things had happened here.

"'I never belonged anywhere until I met you,' he said, resting his cheek against my hair. 'I thought I did.'" Awww, this is cute and all, but I can't help but feel that their romantic relationship progressed a bit quickly.

Oooh, can't wait to see what Topside is like.

"'Our Leadership is flawed. It doesn't serve the people anymore, if it ever did.' That much, I agreed with, so I gave a cautious nod. The elders had lost my blind support. College citizens would pay the price for their determination to permit no change. I understood the rules existed to protect us, but if we didn't adapt to the new balance in the tunnels, we would die."

I feel like I should read some literary fiction. Being out of school for almost a year now is making me feel stupid.

Could humans really live on just meat and mushrooms? I guess you could argue and say the people in this book aren't really "living" but merely existing until their bodies give out at a young age. I just can't see people surviving passed infancy without grains, fruits, or vegetables. And how does she know what leather is?

Hmm. If only some men and women are allowed to breed, how do they keep all the teenagers and adults from fooling around? I can't imagine that fear of being exiled would keep people from having sex. Then again, I don't live in an underground dystopia with little food and monsters roaming the tunnels.

Meh.

I bet I know where the evil desk came from now. Man, I wish the plot wasn't so cheesy, because I really like the characters.

Is this book seriously about an evil desk?

Ah yeah, just opened up a box from Amazon that contained the new Sookie! Here's hoping it's better than the last one.

For all you Ben Barnes lovers like myself, I'm finally going to sit down and watch Dorian Gray. I've watched the youtube videos too much now, that I NEED to see the whole thing.

An awesome start to a new series. A solid 4.5 for me.

'You have the ability to focus on the most inane things,' Voss said, reeling a bit from her sudden wakefulness. 'Not, Why are you here, Voss? How did you get in? Or even, as you so bluntly said last time, Get out.'"

I am uneasy over this neckcloth that Voss has chosen to don again ...

"Woodmore turned back to Voss one last time. 'I'm doing it for her, not for you.' 'If you were doing it for me,' Voss managed with every bit of strength he had, 'you'd finish it.' 'Damn you to hell, Voss,' Woodmore said, taking Angelica by the arm and starting toward the splintered doorway. Already done, Woodmore. Already done."
