There actually is a Neverending Story and that moment was really quite cool...

Circumstance has kept me away from reading all week and that's a shame because this is a bloody lovely book. It's really quite special, actually.

Interesting similarities and differences from the movie so far. I think that it's better as it stands in the book, too, so this is cerainly worthwhile reading.

Had to wipe a away a small tear that began to form when Artax died. Brutal early killing off of a favourite equine character.

What an amazing day. 100 pages of Northanger Abbey, 2,000 words written and now Fellowship of the Ring on BluRay (like watching it again for the first time!)

I've been aimlessly trying to write fiction for about 5 years now. Yesterday for the first time I think I read something back and said to myself "you know what, you've improved a little bit." Given how poor my initial attempts were that's not saying so much but it's a nice feeling to know that I had a couple of Ok sentences to contribute to the world.

I think A Song of Ice and Fire is probably the modern equivalent of Mysteries of Udolpho. Your sense of literary worth is based on your ability to find creatie ways to dismiss it as inferior to whatever *you* happen to like..

I wonder how many people who read Northanger Abbey went on to read Mysteries of Udolpho? I know I the fuck did and it was awesome - wait, is Jane Austen taking the piss out of me???? Fuck you, Austen!

Since I just read the books I also decided to watch the Disney adaptation of ALice in Wonderland. It's easy to forget that Disney once made wonderful animated movies but they did. Sure, it doesn't quite capture the spirit of the books but it has its own charm and the art direction is quite beautiful.

Next up - not Tim Burton.

Oh Jane, I love your humour...

It's a truth universally acknowledged that it's high time I re-read this book.

It's also a truth universally acknowledged that pastiches of this quote need to be put to bed.

It's also a truth universally acknowledged that this quote isn't even from Northanger Abbey... but hey it's all Jane Austen, right?

Nothing that Russell Brand says is profound or original here but he's fast becoming an important voice for expressing liberal sentiment that one can get behind. In other words, I love this guy so much.

(oh yeah, this is about that beheading and wave of ant-muslim violence that's following.)

All I can say is that little Davy is a right little tosspot. Why was Marilla so hard on Anne and so lenient on this little bugger? If there were buses in Avonlea, I'd like him to get runover by one of them.

Not so well written but Felicia Day shares some thoughts on women in the new Star Trek movie. Nice to see because actresses won't usually come out and criticise this type of thing. but, Felicia Day is basically awesome.

ATTENTION Lord of the Rings fans. Those who love wacky LOTR related stuff should check out this "music inspired by Lord of the Rings from Bo Hansson, that I just discovered. it's like great things, on a stick.
