This book has an angle. There are angles. Sharp and pointy ones. Where is Arthur? Why is there not more nudity. I need more manliness.

As a prose stylist Fleming has gone up a notch here. This is, in many respects, the best thriller writing I've ever read. oddly, as his writing has matured, so has his misogynism.

Not book related, but just got back from Django Unchained. Tarantino is cinema and there's nothing like the feeling of coming out of a new Tarantino movie. How many years until the next one?

Frustratingly only seem to be reading this in snatches on the bus. Nearly done with Sanditon and by God is it awesome. Austen certainly never stopped pushing herself as a writer...

One of the most outrageous books I've ever read. Yet it's as playful as it is provocative.

God decided that Jane Austen *had* to die after this. The great British novel wasn't ready for her genius.

Easy to admire, a little more difficult to love.

Oh wait, I just realised that this book isn't linear. Also, I need dice to read a book - what the fuck is this?

I'm not doing the reading challenge. I think it's completely the wrong way to approach reading.

There, I said it.

Not having read these for 15 years - and not having read all of them, I wasn't expecting these to be quite so thrilling, radical, sensuous, on the money or basically all-round awesome.

I suppose that's the reason why Carter is so universally admired, then.

Just noticed that more people on my friends list have read The Hunger Games than pretty much any other single book.

What does this say about the world of Goodreads? We're all Hungry for something? Games?

I still can't be arsed to read it, though...

The strange world in which we live in, in which no-one is allowed to call anything bad anymore or fault someone else's opinion. "That's just my opinion" "It's all subjective" has become a catch all argument for anybody to justify thinking anything.

It's Barry's Pond. Lake of Shining Waters indeed! What a silly chattery little heathen she is.

Gotta love Matthew Cuthbert. The man's a legend in my book.

It's one thing to say that a book has some longeurs. It's another thing entirely to say that an entire book is a longeur.

This is where the Kindle really wins. it was either pay £7 to get part 2 on the Kindle or take this whopping hardbook out of the library. I'm still not sure it wouldn't be worth paying the money since this thing is a WEIGHT.

Interesting just to see how you follow up such a popular and loved series as Hitchhikers.

interestign to me for incorporating elements of Adams' unfinished Dr.Who serial Shada.

It's very good so far. Not quite throwing *everything* at you as the early HH books do, but quietly bizarre and funny.

Saw this on the Kindle Daily Deal and realised that I'd been meaning to read it. That's another sneaky 99p Amazon *curses*

I've got that "damn, I wish I hadn't started this book when I have to work all day" feeling :( Right now I could use a holiday so that I can settle down somewhere quiet with my book, a teapot and long stretches of time ahead of me.

A sensible first impressions update.

Starting a volume of ASoFaI feels like an epic undertaking each time (and this is the longest section). Martin quickly sets the tone as completely different from AFFC and focussing in on the "favourites" - namely the "heroes" (if this series has any) gives it a warmth and immediacy FFC didn't have. Already been a section that made me gasp!

In a word, I'm hooked. Again.
