Y'ALL WERE RIGHT, IT'S ALREADY SO GOOD

not gonna lie.... really not loving this. i feel like i've only ever seen glowing reviews of this, but after looking through my friends' reviews, im glad that a lot of other people also think it's just kinda average

this book is doing several things i normally dont love in romance (big age gap, scottish dialogue with every other word being 'aye' and 'ye' and 'shite' etc.) but this author is actually so good at her craft that it's not even cringy or unenjoyable. this is also super fun on audio so i can't wait to read more :-)

this took 50 pages to pick up (which is concerning for a book under 200 pages) but toni morrison is undoubtedly one of the most talented writers who ever has existed

i was up until 5 a.m. reading this while steadily weeping. it's so emotionally heavy and i still have 200 pages left after reading for 5 straight hours last night

i feel like i've been reading this book for 6 years and yet i have 400 pages left

usually romance books with no smut have me snoozin but this one is actually pretty interesting and angsty

This book is kind of hypocritical. The whole point is that the main character works hard to be a badass woman because she works in a male-dominated field where she's constantly talked down to, so she combats a lot of sexism and babying comments. but when the love interest babies her and bosses her around..... she thinks it's cute? idk, double standard.

this book mirrors my life so closely that it's almost painful. jesus take the wheel

maybe i shouldn't have read this book so close to shadow of the wind, one of my favorite books of this year, but this book is just kinda okay. it's fast and easy to read, but i don't think that's a compliment for a book with such heavy subject matter. still, the audiobook is good and i'm sure i'll finish this tonight.

i picked this book out of my tbr jar and nearly DNF'ed it on chapter one because i'm historically not a fan of sci-fi and i didn't realize this was intergalactic sci-fi, but i stuck with it. and it got better. the writing style is sooo funny and i'm actually using tabs on this book because it's great.

i accidentally left my other book at work (cue clown music) so i started this because i knew i could probably finish it in one weekend. i went in with low expectations based on some reviews i've seen, but i'm actually really liking this book! for someone who doesn't care about the movie industry, it's actually sorta interesting so far so i'm happy.

On today's edition of reading the oldest book on my TBR, I don't know why I put this off for so long because it's GORGEOUS!

So far, this reads like a 2013-era fantasy where the characters go on a long intense journey, yet not a lot happens. I thought because this book would focus on learning magic that it would have a cool feel to it as we familiarized ourself with powers at the same time the characters did, but instead it feels like we're meeting a lot of random people. if i wasn't listening to this on audio, i'd probably be bored.

I wish I would've read this book a month earlier to still fit in the window of summer because I can already tell it's gonna be so atmospheric and moody. Also I love birds. So.
