Enemy’s to lovers. The first kiss just fumbled after a few fizzled out attempts. The tense needing to stop and get a motel that wasn’t planned. Then… spoiler: one. bed.

They’re laying it on thick with the enemy talk but we just got to two beds three people. Will they sleep together?

The players are introduced. The pair are setting up a nature vs nurture experiment on their godchild. Other evil players are wreaking havoc over the world with arms, toxic diet culture, and mechanical accidents. Already drawn in.

Wait maybe this is the end of the “chapter”? This books doesn’t seem to be formatted very traditionally. I wonder whatever happened to Baby B.

This is a fun little jaunt. These two are great and I can already see the enjoyment I’ll get from the two main characters.

The true secret was knowing yourself and what you wanted. Leave it to the Trans Kid to know exactly how he wants to be perceived and use it to his advantage

Of course Nick and Theo have beef while also recognizing the other’s handsomeness. It’s a YA novel. And because it’s queer it can truly be a triangle.

Welp. I guess I was wrong. That was a bit of a twist. Who knew he had it in him.

Theo reminds me of this character in the expanse. So cocky because he thinks he has proven himself. He has risen to power. Everything is going his way. Well… he gets killed by an elevator and was never referenced again.

“Hell has followed us into Earth, and I am the monster that has brought forth it.” I can’t tell if Theo is more monster fucker or boot licker. “if they want me to be a monster one step closer to God, that’s fine. In what world was their God ever a benevolent one?

One little pluck can change a lot of things. There is still hope.

Things are not going as planned. Will they adapt?

Public humiliation and dysphoria. Really twisting the knife. Then of course Theo doesn’t see now is not the time to be intimate. Stupid boy.

The cut of the deadname. The peak of this chapter. Igniting a flame in Benji.

Of course Theo is just a scared little boy (teenager) that thinks he’s doing the right thing. A (cigarette emoji) for t*ump if you will. I didn’t want this PoV.

First chapter to make me cry. How accepting they all were. We love a found family.

The kid might not like apologies but sometimes it is nice to also hear it. Teamwork will make the dream work.

Clever use of another character’s PoV so we aren’t in Benji’s head during the event. I also enjoy getting a peak into Nick’s mind. I now need to accept it these chapters aren’t as frequent.

This author really knows how to build suspense. The monologue followed by prayers. Then nothing. Next up Nick’s PoV. How good is that?

Welp. Benji’s figured it out. Of course Theo is the bad guy. Just because he gave you a blowie doesn’t mean he isn’t working for the bad guys. Don’t trust your evangelical husband no matter how much he validates your gender.

The will they won’t they if these two is killing me.

Disaster has struck. Evacuation happened for as many as possible, but secrets are starting to come undone. How is this Benji’s fault. Is Theo involved????

Oooo. We’re getting a little spicy before fading to black. But damn a cliff hanger at the end of the chapter.

Confrontation. Standing up for one’s self. But no closure. Let’s get a nick POV. Need to know what is going on in his head.

Oh Cormac. How your hubris fails you. But such is the workings of an 18 year old in an apocalypse. But also leave it to the Vanguard to have zero compassion.

I forgot that the husband was back. Oh yeah. They did get married. So oh this means there will be the classic YA love “triangle” trope. And oh maybe they know each other…?

A little bit of body horror. A bit tense. Really building up some suspense for the big change.

Nick’s smugness of getting Benji to open up rather than opening up himself is great. “Ridged side goes against the skin” Bobby pin knowledge.
