Small chapter wrapping up Mass. LA chapter about going from bad to great with lots of history about the LA area’s support of policing and targeting vendors of color and the unhoused population.

I didn’t think to enjoy a chapter on baseball so much, but “Stars Are Blind” save it for me. I will excuse the pierogi race slander.

I could see the Chicago dog going either way, but I’m not surprised it’s bad. We love to see entrepreneurs of color. Super Dog, while overly sexed, seems like the route to go.

By the end, you for get this was the second chapter with the gendered pickle’s life story with his wife jalapeño.

A chapter about mini hot dogs and garbage plates. Heaven.

Buffalo style trick dogs, insatiable horniness for a guy named Greg and all ending with why doesn’t anyone want to work?

The chapter had good movement but after the build up against Shea, the contest, and Joey C not being the “American Heroes” they strive to be it wasn’t the most memorable. I do like the Gray V Papaya bit at the end.

I was over zealous and thought the chapter went on further. Joey Chestnut has fallen, but got right back on the dogs.

Only partially through New York. Competitive Hot Dog eating has its problems, but I do remember the rise in attention the sport got in the early 00s. I may look into women’s competitive eating after this.

“I don’t eat a hotdog for a week and I miss them.” Reading both the New Jersey and getting to the north east chapters I definitely want to try a fried dog. The snap described in these chapters *chef’s kiss*. I too wanted the bikers to fall in love.

The east coast. The North Carolina spots were great. Reminded me of where I’m from. The spot that just wanted to get on triple D, the condescending joint, and the southern staple. The more history came through the more we progressed. A brief stop in Roanoke into a history rich DC and Baltimore staple. Not just hotdog review but a lesson too.

We just went through the south. Notably OK and Atlanta. Ok just like their hot dogs. I do want to visit the Varsity for a hot dog.

The how it’s made section starts with just that how’s it made. The visual of this reference emphasized by my knowledge of the show. Getting into the conditions the animals faced. Then ending with something not as talked about the workers at these plants.

The trip through the south west. Mainly New Mexico. The gender pickles were a fun way to end. Didn’t expect the meth haunted house.

I’ve technically finished the story, but there are roughly fifty pages more of interview and the like. This is my favorite Ghibli movie and the book helps me flesh out some of the finer details and helps with the context I hadn’t picked up earlier.
