Fuck me, I know already why this book is titled "For Real" and it's spot on. Their interactions aren't stereotypical or perfect ...it's not anything but what they want and need.

You know, it's probably a very good thing that Avery Cockburn's Glasgow Lads series is NOT available via audiobook. I'm not sure I'd survive that experience...people would find me months from now, mummified - dehydrated and starved - from never having left my bedroom. And an autopsy would reveal a serious case of carpel tunnel syndrome.

Man, JCP pulls no punches with this, drawing all kinds of examples from history's marginalized people. Way earlier there was a mention of coming across a hotel that only allowed legally married couples to stay together in a room & the problems of mixed status couples (miscegenation). Now we're at separate facilities (segregation) and badges/embroidered uniforms indicating someone's V+ status (Jews/Holocaust). Damn.

Yeah, there's a whole lot here that harkens back to the initial days of HIV diagnosis (when people actually called it GRIDs - GAY RELATED immunodeficiency disease) plus a heft dose of current bigotry. Gotta love a snarky line about Rush Limbaugh broadcasting on the almost FOX-like *spit* ACN. So much allegory going on here - a much smarter book than I think people give it credit for...

Okay, I was seriously freaking out thinking that the virus was transmitted by contact...the way we're ODing on all things anti-bacterial & anti-viral it's a very real possibility.

But instead, the human MC is overly paranoid, not even taking a chance; which, unfortunately, reminds me all too much of how people w/HIV were originally treated as modern-day lepers (and how some ignorant twats still do).

Oh thank heavens...Cardeno is definitely addressing the "faux-gay" discomfort. It bothered me somewhat that they were going to be pretend boyfriends in public and didn't seem to take into account the struggle actual gay people and couples have (even if one of the MCs is gay.)

Is it sad that I'm holding onto books that I'm dying to read because I nominated the writers for October MM Author of the Month? Or is that considered an appropriate level of devotion? I have 4 books, 2 by each of them; I would really love to get started on the final Cole McGinnis title plus the 2nd Kai Gracen book by Rhys Ford & the next 2 installments of Alison Hendricks' Eastshore Tiger series. *fingers crossed*

Holy shit. HOLY SHIT! HOLY.FUCKING.SHIT! I've read countless - COUNTLESS - books where there is a musician MC & one of my biggest complaints is that when the author tries to have the MC put feelings on paper or attempt to pen a song that the written lyrics don't have music (or just plain suck); that makes it hard to feel their meaning. This audio book STARTS WITH MUSIC. Real music. A rock song. + Charlie David = <3.

Something I think makes me love listening to Josh's work: The relationship/sex functions almost as the B-plot for a whodunit/action/adventure story. It's there, but it's not the main focus of the book; the guys are just going about their jobs & happen to be gay.

This one is slightly different: The mystery has equal billing to the romance. I think it's a product of it being a shorter tale, but I'm still digging it!

Reality Check: I realized earlier that I haven't watched any real television in months. MONTHS. I am a television addict, and it's been months. I replaced viewing with reading and listening! Of course, once I noticed this I immediately started downloading all the HIGNFY and Mock the Week eps I've missed since June. I'll start @midnight later...

ARRRGH. Lucky cannot possibly be headed down I-10 from Athens to Louisiana & the 10 wouldn't take him anywhere near (let alone pass) Atlanta. I think the author meant I-20 but OMFG I hate inaccuracies like that. Or saying how Savannah is less than an hour away from the ATL (I think that was suggested in the 1st book). Also, Savannah isn't considered Metro Atlanta, nor is Athens (yet - give Clarke County a few years).
