I noticed very early on & forgot to comment: While this is the 1st book of a new series, it has SIGNIFICANT ties to the Perspectives series. Chet is the owner of the porn studio where several of the characters in that series worked & Cris is one of the side characters mentioned previously. It's a good thing I read most of those; I didn't get to #4 yet & I wish I had because that couple features in this story as well.

So, honestly, baseball ranks like 57th on the list of "sports I like to watch" (behind golf and only just ahead of fishing) but I am seriously loving this book so far!

...however, as much as I hate the DH rule and this team being in the AL, I have to say I'm thankful at least one of the MCs is a catcher. Because catchers have THE best asses in baseball (see Javier Lopez) and I'm loving the mental image of Fitz squatting behind the plate.

Nooooooo! I was totally lovin' this until the words "designated hitter" made an appearance & I realized this would mean the team was in the AL.

I'm not a huge baseball fan (except for the Braves) but IMHO, if your player can't hit, why is it okay to replace him? The NL does fine without babying their pitchers...they're not treated any differently than the other players & some rack up great hitting stats! LAME!

Wait, why is it "puzzling" that JT would have such strong feelings for someone he'd only recently met...when the entire passage before detailed his tendency toward extreme empathy as why his professors & colleagues thought he'd have a hard time practicing as a psychologist? (And explained why he's not doing that job now.)

Throw in a physical attraction, too...and bam - feelings.

This book is pissing me off.

Argh! You can't use selling someone "Florida swampland" as an impossible/unlikely thing because OMG I think half of Florida IS swampland.

See, it's supposed be something ridiculous (like offering to give away the Golden Gate Bridge) or not an actual thing (like Arizona oceanfront property) for it to have the metaphorical impact.

(And yes, I DID just use the lyrics to a George Strait song. Bite me, it's apropos.)

I usually don't take offense when people think Southerners are dumb hicks, usually given our accents & pronunciation. But I get kinda pissed off when said accent & whatnot is written/used incorrectly.

"Y'all" may not be proper, but I WAS taught that it has a proper usage & that is as a PLURAL pronoun - so to see it reference 1 person really chaps my ass since the "all" part of the contraction indicates more than 1.

I'm kind of loving the whole daddy/boy vibe here, and really glad neither of them are into the DD aspect (with punishment & whatnot) because that's not my thing, either.

I also like how the author is tying in explanations, limits & expectations with detailed discussions between the characters. It's just this side of too-didactic & doesn't (yet) skirt that irritating edge of BDSM-101 that some authors employ.

Argh, continuity is a thing.

"I never knew you had a cat." Not that it really mattered, and to be fair, we had spent most of our time together talking about me. But I was a little disappointed that I didn't know this about him. - 37%

vs.

...so, for the next three hours we talked...and we talked some more. I learned he had a cat called Neenish, and his two best best friends were old college buddies... - 21%

Sure is a whole lot of "telling" in this book. Seems like every time Yanni & Peter are together it's a bunch of we talked about this, we talked about that, we discussed something else. I mean, I don't need each & every conversation specifically detailed to the extreme, but that's how readers get to see how the relationship develops, how we get to know the characters on a deeper level than what we're "told."

My heart is breaking for Dorjan as he tries to give Areau what he needs, knowing it's not enough for either of them. Dorjan craves love, softness, affection...and Areau wants release in pain, blood, cruelty - preferably from a woman as he's not sly, but Dorjan will have to do. *sadz*

(On a happier note, I can't help but see Dorjan's vigilante efforts, costume & gadgets as a steampunk-style Batman.)

How much do I love that the rest of the crew ALSO scrambled over the neighbor's fence to get to Patrick's house (avoiding paparazzi)...and thought nothing of it?

Oooooh my gawd. The build-up, the anticipation, the waiting for these MCs to finally meet...was off the charts angsty. And then that scene on the tarmac? Breath-stealingly romantic. What an image that would be!!! (Well, both of them; the kiss AND the fainting!)

OOoooh, the moral ambiguity of this one is soooooo gooooood. I can totally see Justin's point about taking advantage of only those who can afford it and giving them "peace" or whatnot regarding dead loved ones...but for people like Nathaniel it's heart-breaking to play on their emotions like that.

Damn, that drive from Vegas through AZ & NM to Amarillo is super long and boring. Was so ready to hand over the driving (to Missouri) at that point! But we're finally here now...

So, yeah, probably won't be a lot of updates since I'm working on a motel connection and the rest of the weekend I'll be with family before the Memorial. Hopefully home by Wednesday.

I love how events of the previous two books are referred to but not excruciatingly detailed as to make it completely repetitious; there's only enough to establish a cohesive timeline and connect family members or houses/clans as well as tie in the characters we only got mentions of in passing.
