WTAF GoodReads? I NEVER sign out and always have at least one window open to my Spellapalooza group thread...but for the past 2 days I've had to sign in again & again! Talk about annoying when I have FIVE windows open & somehow have to sign in for all of them, and if my thread is in a group it goes to the GROUP page, not my thread or post.

Oh yes! I'm loving the idea of Royrick/Gerald/Sophie! It's the absolute perfect solution and answers a need in all of them. (I hope there is more of this Triad at some point, if not in this book - or another installment - then maybe in a novella or short story? Pleeeeeease?)

LOL @ Ellery's Ayn Rand rant. It's funny 'cause it's true.

Ellery hasn't had a lot of nice things about his family until this point...but OMFG I love his mother in this instance.

You know, at first the details of this plot make the book seem a little over-the-top...but a quick look at some of the investigation into police scandals (past & present), stories about corruption that crop up regularly & the videos of all the unwarranted shootings and it's pretty fucking scary to realize it's not entirely ridiculous.

I need the X for Spell...and an audiobook.

I can tell already that these MCs are gonna irritate the crap out of me...

Had to take the SigO to the VA ER and this was the only audiobook I had access to for passing the time. Felt really weird listening to it considering the setting...

(<2mm Kidney stone; acted like he was passing a watermelon and then had the gall to say something about how he knows what it's like to give birth now. Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself that, dude. *eyeroll*)

I call BS on Sven's fear of hurting a smaller lover being rooted in a confrontation he had with childhood bullies & injuring one in a fight. I get that he's wary of his strength & doesn't want to accidentally hurt someone, like maybe in the throes of passion, but FFS base his fear in actually inadvertently having DONE THAT to someone he cared about, someone he once dated/fucked that was smaller & then left, afraid.

Ack, I'm having a hard time NOT drawing mental comparisons between this and the THIRDS series...

Okay, this starts out pretty terrifyingly good!

Something just occurred to me: John saw David give head in a public toilet for cash, but that doesn't mean David is actually gay (or bi). David was still in survivor mode the first couple of times they had sex & despite the constant head-hopping we don't anything more than David consenting. Without a discussion or internal monologue, I'm not sure that wasn't him being grateful, or needing a human connection.

I should be loving this book; it's a tried & true kind of story that typically appeals to me as it's a subject near & dear to my heart. Instead, I'm finding it hard to connect with. The writing is awkward, the omniscient POV irritating. I'm not even sure I like John at all and I can't see how he's suddenly got these deep feelings for David. But I'll keep powering through to see how it turns out...

Quick read; need it for a challenge.

Wow, that first short story had a LOT of sex...

Also, something about how Wes always referred to Jessie as being "left" to him sounds so, IDK, odd? Like I know it was a last will kind of thing, but couldn't it have been phrased differently? Make the girl sound less like a possession? Like, the responsibility of her care being left to him, or Chell's request to rear her daughter was left to him?

OMG. That whole fight scene was hilarious. Did Andrea write a book for this hockey team? If not, she totally should.

You know, it kills me (and makes me tear up a bit, too) that despite not actually being there, Mel is still there...even if it's in the smallest of ways. From a happy memory, to a sad thought, to just thinking about how they ALL miss her...

I've sped up the audio on this but holy shit is it dragging along...

I know he's not described this way, but every time this book mentions the god-emperor, fat and lazy, floating on a golden throne...I imagine a cross between Jabba the Hutt & Rygel XVI (from Farscape).

And then I LMAO.

Ooof. It breaks my heart every time Dan has to explain to his dad about his mother being gone...and I can't even imagine the frustration.

...Rafe brought snacks and a toothbrush and other incendiaries to get him through the night.

Incendiaries? He needs to blow shit up while he's sleeping?
