Hmm. This isn't what I've expected so far, but the worldbuilding is interesting!

I'm finally reading this! Yay! :D

Expectations~

- Romance :P
- The Selection/dystopian-style "choosing" ceremony
- The Chosen One
- Uhm... rebels?

We'll see how many of the above show up in the book. ;)

Am I looking forward to this read? YES. (and that cover is gorgeous)

Shoutout to Lisa for the recommendation! It's been a bit since I've read middle-grade, so this will be interesting. :)

Okay, so while this IS romance and seems to center around the two MCs' relationship, the story isn't full of all that mushy romance stuff. I love how Evalina and Taichi are always fighting for each other and how deep their relationship is. Not only that, but this book *feels* authentically historical.

Definitely a breath of fresh air compared to some other YA romance/historicals I've read recently! :)

There ARE portals into other worlds. Sort of. XD

Though I'm not sure I like the MC...or her two supposed love interests...hmm.

I've heard a lot of mixed things about this book, but as I've been meaning to read it for forever (and just so happened to grab a *gorgeous* new copy), I decided I'm just going to go ahead and try it for myself.

Expectations:
- Romance, probably a love triangle
- Beautiful prose
- Portals
- Magic... maybe? It is fantasy after all...

We'll see how many of these things actually show up in the book. ;)

The feel of this book is interesting.

It's dreamy and unsettling and magical all at once.

And I'm loving it so far.

Is it just me, or do the tree reflections on the lake on the cover look like sound waves?

Anywho. Can't wait to start this book, and add it to my already impossibly-tall "currently reading" pile!

I really want to like this book...but there are so many things in it I'm not exactly okay with. *sighs*

Oh well...I shall just continue reading.

As for the book...I'm enjoying it so far. I don't really like how Christianity/God/the Bible is portrayed in this book, but maybe that'll change. Hopefully.

I really miss the characters from the first book...

There's been no romance, platonic relationships between two boys and the MC, and no profanity...I'm impressed. XD

Super excited to start this book! After wanting to read it for a little while, I discovered it at a local store and got it new. There's something I love about *new* paperback books. ✨😊

I hope I enjoy this book as much as I hope to!
