Well the first book was good enough that I bit the bullet and bought the second. Let us see if this book is at least half-way as decent as the first.

I am so burnt out on romances, enough for a while. Time to clear some of the indie authors up and then back to my all time fav - Space Opera.

I've put off reading the second book in this series fearing I would be disappointed by the author. I have read other works by Kay and found them to be not quite to my liking enough for a second read. So far although somewhat disappointed by some events in the story not too bad. A worthy read but I am still glad that I waited until I was in the mood for something that might not be quite to my liking.

In general, I dislike LitRPG books; skipping large chunks of game text. Monster Slayer has been a decent read so far with interesting characters. MCs are a little shallow, but as this is the first book in what appears to be an intended series, I'm giving the author the benefit of the doubt that he will flesh the MCs out more as the story progresses.

The barbarism practiced by both sides is horrible.

A friend of mine asked me to read and review this book as she is friends with the author. My friend reads LitRPG, of which I am not a fan, so I am going into this book with a strong suspicion that I might not like it. Not quite holding my nose, but I am dubious as to whether or not this book appeals to me. I am of a couple generations before the MMO & video game ones, so books within those genres rarely appeal to me.

Fascinating reading if you are interested at looking at the human behind the machinegun and later sniper rifle.

Time for something completely different than what I have been reading lately. My mind it is turning into a rabbity mush with all of this romance I've been cramming into it.

The preface of this book is well worth the price of admission. I was not expecting a dissertation on the origins and history of Space Opera. For those who came into Space Opera like I did, in the late 70's (strangely coinciding with the first Lucas movie) may not be aware of Space Opera's earliest days. Or that women were some of the first and prolific Space Opera authors.

And here I thought the zombie apocalypse genre was deader than dead. So far so good. Not so typical start to a ZA novel from an author from Down Under.

OK enough damned romances. Time for some badass munchkin brunette. Since I am going to see a "Meet the Author" tonight with Laurell K. Hamilton at University Bookstore, it seems appropriate I read one of her stories.

If I had not received this book for free, there is no way in hell I would have ever considered reading it. It's actually not too bad. Kinda corny and certainly trope-laden, but the characters are great with good chemistry between them. Not something that I will read again or seek to read unless I get another book for free.

I swear that I have read this book already. Goodreads does not agree and so I must plunge further into another mind-numbing trope-laden romance.

I was rather leery of reading another vampire romance. As much as I despise Twilight this brief vampire romance has started ok. So far not too much action other than some group sex, a little vampire munching, and a whole lot of dialogue. Thankfully this is a short novella.

Well, not the novella I was expecting but a full-length novel. So far rather stupid trope premise for getting the two MCs together.

I am about sick of these SEAL romances. I understand the fantasy for a woman is to be desired by a man from a very exclusive military unit. Thankfully, this one is very short, more of a novella rather than a book. Books such as this one is why I have to put a ridiculous number of books on my reading challenge.

So far tepid romance, with some non-safe sex.

Time to reread an old favorite urban fantasy series.

Perhaps I have read too many formulaic sports-based romances, but I would swear that I have read this book before. While the situations and names are different, a British soccer star and curvy, beautiful female doctor sounds awfully familiar.

Almost swear that I have read this book before, but since I have been tracking all of the romances I read with Goodreads, I suppose that is not the case. I've just read too many similar trope-stuffed sports romances lately.
