message 804: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 2 comments Hi all, Nancy here. I've only been a comics reader for a few months. I started last year as a challenge to try reading new types of literature. I chose comics because they are short and I figured I could read one and know it wasn't for me. Well, joke was on me. I started with Saga and have't been able to stop since. I love Image comics and I've recently dipped my toes into DC/Marvel comics and graphic novels.

message 805: by A (new)

A (logarithmic) | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Amy. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona and have dabbled in in graphic novels and comics since I was pretty young.

I just decided I should get back into it as a sort of New Year's Resolution, so right now I'm in the middle of the third volume of Lucifer among others.

I don't read many superhero works although I'm fond of them (I was into them when I was younger). The universes are just too interconnected and I want endings to my stories now days so I can move on.

It's nice to see all you other fans of the medium!

If it's written by Gail Simone or Kelly Sue Deconnick, I'm probably reading it. I read a good bit of manga too. Big fan of Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, Coppelion, and Fairy Tale. I'm always open to new suggestions to read.

Zombieslayer⚡Alienhunter (theslayingisthunter) | 48 comments Hello.
I'm Zombieslayer/Alienhunter, but please just call me Z (Zom is also acceptable).
I joined because I just happened to notice a friend of mine was in the group and it sounded cool.
I used to read serials of Spider-Man and the X Men when I was 10-11, but about a year ago I started reading trade paperbacks of graphic novels. I love
Kick-Ass by Mark Millar and I just recently finished the Locke and Key series by Joe Hill.

Jurgen Kalisch | 1 comments I’ve been a published writer/artist for over 30-years working mainly in comics, (DC Thompson and the former Fleetway Publications). I’ve also worked in TV, radio, spent three years as a gag writer and worked in animation where I wrote a Channel 4 TV series, “The Bunburies. On top of this I did some freelance work in animation for the late Bob Godfrey and later worked for an Indian animation studio in Mumbai. I also contributed a number of gonzo style articles to one of those “top-of-the-shelf” magazines popular with compulsive masturbators, (of which I’m not one...honestly). However my foray into gonzo journalism was conducted without the late Hunter S. Thompson's voracious appetite for mind bending substances. (Well, let’s just say I didn’t take as many as he did).

GET YOUR FREE COMIC HERE!

This is the first issue of the “Halfpenny Dreadful Comic,” an imprint from Whorror House Publishing. This comic is loosely based on the pulp magazines that were popular amongst the plebeians in Victorian England. As a result, every effort bar none has been made to ensure that the content of the comic is as scurrilous and even MORE scatological than its 19th Century forbearers. In this issue the undiscerning reader will discover adult themes such as nude women, details of Elvis Presley’s unofficial autopsy and a totally unrepentant misogynist who makes the Taliban look like relentless supporters for women’s liberation.

Sergeant Apone (sergeantapone) | 7 comments Hola Everyone.

I'm Rob from Washington State. I love graphic novels. However, I am slow to read them sometimes due to other interests. (Movies, TV Series and Video Games) Right now, Fables and Locke & Key are at the top of my list. I love the old school X-Men (Colossus is my all time favorite). There is nothing wrong with reading The Dark Knight either. That guy is ok in my book. Feel free to follow me or message me. We can chat about whatever.

So far, I'm just trying out the new releases, some old ones that which I found in the Top Graphic Novel list. Thank you for having me.

Josh (runningbeard) Hi, I'm Josh, and I'm reading comics again for the first time in a very long time. I was a fan in the 80s, and still love John Byrne, George Perez, Bill Sienkiewicz, Hernandez Bros., Dave Sim... and then in the 90s read everything by Dan Clowes and Peter Bagge. I'm a librarian and often work in the graphic novels collection... I think stumbling on an Alex Ross cover kick started my love again!

message 831: by Circe (new)

Circe (xaerith) Hi Kenny and all graphic lovers!
I'm April, currently living in the UK but moving to Boston, MA with my partner in the upcoming year. I've been a fan of comics since I was old enough to nip to the local comic store around the corner to get them with my sweater jacked up to my chin. I'm following all sorts of new relaunches, as well as reaching into old classics and more independent graphic novels. I'm following Sex Criminals, Lumberjanes, Ant-Man, A-Force, Captain Marvel, Carol Corps, Angela, Wicked and Divine, etc. Mostly ones with female leads/robots if I'm honest. Favourite artists include Chip Zdarsky, Charles Burns, Erika Moen and others. Otherwise, I'm trying to finish Locke and Key.

message 835: by Alix (new)

Alix Parker (infamousalix) | 1 comments Hi hi!
Name is Alix and I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I've always loved comics and graphic novels, but never really got into them until about a year ago when I started dating my boyfriend (he has 3 bookshelves filled with comics and graphic novels, as well as maybe 5 boxes of them!) Since then, my collection has grown so much.
I'm always looking for new comics to read (not that big a fan of the New 52 :/) but I'm really interested in local writers and whatnot. Also horror or anything generally creepy.
My favourites right now are Chew, Batgirl of Burnside, Morning Glories, and Ms. Marvel :)

message 836: by Dan (new)

Dan Wilson | 7 comments Hi, I'm Dan. I was born and raised in DC, and now live in NYC. Growing up in the 80s, I was into newspaper comics and Mad Magazine early on and later Heavy Metal and underground/alternative comics from the 1960s on. I'd go to comic book stores and skip right by the Marvel and DC stuff and look for the dusty boxes in the back where the indie stuff was. In recent years, I've been trying to catch up on some of the best reputed graphic novels I never got to from the 1980s to the present. So in recent years, I read Maus, The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Batman: Year One, and the first Love & Rockets books. More recently, during a mid-season hiatus of Walking Dead, I read all of the Walking Dead trade paperbacks. That got me interested in checking out more contemporary comics. Then Netflix's Daredevil got me interested in finally taking a good look at Marvel & DC's offerings, especially in the present day. I figure that a group like this one, especially with its reading groups, can help me get up to speed.

Hi, just wanted to welcome all the new members. Usually the group moderator that created this group 4 years ago would welcome all the new members. Unfortunately and sadly, he will not be able to do that anymore. Feel free to browse around and let the different group topics give you some new ideas or introduce you to some new graphic novels that would interest you. Good luck.

Chris | 10 comments Hi, Chris here, from Minnesota, USA. Saw this group on the newsfeed of a friend, and since I love graphic novels I thought I'd join. I read a wide variety, but tend toward comics if I have them. In that form, I'll read everything, but less super-hero, more dark drama.

message 844: by Eric (last edited Aug 08, 2015 03:48PM) (new)

Eric England | 5 comments I have been a member of this group for a while, but I do not think I have ever formally introduced myself. My name is Eric and I am from Norman, Oklahoma. I have read comics and graphic novels off and on since the early 1990s when the X-Men animated series got me hooked on the mutant characters.
I am currently reading several comic book series, though I plan on adding more books to my reading list soon. I love Jeff Lemire and am following his run on Hawkeye and Descender. Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic are doing a great job on Secret Wars. I love the Star Wars Lando series that Marvel is putting out (Marvel is doing a great job with the license). I follow several Image titles in trade with Trees, Lazarus, and Autumnlands: Tooth and Claw volumes sitting on my to-read shelf. I also plan on picking the latest Wicked and the Divine and Wytches trades ASAP.
October is going to be a big comic book buying month for me-looking forward to Paper Girls from Vaughn and Chiang, Black Magic from Rucka and Scott, Dr. Strange from Aaron and Bachalo, and, of course, one of my favorite writers taking over my beloved X-Men and Old Man Logan :)
I want to get a lot out of this group and enjoy reading all of the commentary on here.

message 845: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Hi! My name's Lynda, I'm from the Seattle area of Washington State. (35 miles SE of the city). I just started reading comic/books,and graphic novels. It took me a while to get over the intimidation that comes from the sheer volume of material out there...in the end, I just jumped in and started finding characters I wanted to read more of. I'm here to find recommendations, and explore.

message 846: by Henrik (new)

Henrik | 1 comments Hey everyone, I'm Henrik from Copenhagen, Denmark. I have been reading comic books pretty much all my life. Some of my favorite artists/writers include Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Jack Kirby, Moebius, Winsor McCay and Geoff Johns. In the superhero genre I try and limit myself to DC Comics, but only because I would otherwise go broke. Beyond that I am also interested in comic studies and have done some writing in the field myself. I always enjoy learning more about comics and finding new ones to read, so I'm hoping this group can help me with that. I am also interested in meeting fellow comic book fanatics, so feel free to add me as a friend. :)

message 850: by Guts (new)

Guts Reads (gutsreads) Hi, I'm Guts.

I just got serious about reading again this year and I meant for it to be more novels than comics but I've actually read a good amount of singles and TPBs as well. I am currently obsessed with The Wicked + The Divine. Kieron is the man. If you haven't, check out Young Avengers. I've been obsessed with any and all things regarding Thanos since I became introduced to comics. And man, am I excited for Thanos vs. Deadpool coming out. I also really enjoy Posion Ivy and The Joker. I'm slowly branching out by currently reading Sex Criminals and then Wytches next month.

Feel free to add me as a friend and we can talk about comics anytime.
