Introduction: Newbies say hello and introduce yourself here

Ha HA.

Is Legends of the Galactic Heroes a good intro to light novels? I own the first two volumes of that.

TBH, I don't know. I've not read or watched that. Also, what genre do you enjoy to watch? I could give you some suggestions based off of that. Also, on my profile I have a pretty decent list of LN's I'm currently reading. I'm in the process of going back and doing reviews on them so people can get a flavor of what's what. Drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to help out!

I taught myself how to read with comics, also how to draw and write. (And my moral code. lol)
My other interests are movies, (I love all types really, especially seen in a theatre but I binge Netflix too.)
Espresso coffee.
Detective and Sci-fi books, (Mainly, but a bit of everything.)
cooking and eating,
traveling, (Saw a when lot of the world while working for the US Embassies abroad but have not done much traveling lately.)
I worked 20 years auditioning actors for TV commercials (casting)
Now I dedicate myself full time to working on my main project, The Espresso Detective Comic.
My favorite comics of all time are
1. The huge 1977 "Thanos loves Death" multi-series event that took place in Marvel Team Up #55, “Marvel Two-In-One” #2, “Avengers Annual” #7
2. Sandman
3. Preacher
4. Hellblazer
5. Spider-Man (Okey, not so much now, but when I was a kid)
6. X-men (ditto)

Welcome Eric. I have read part of the Thanos (infinity gaunlet) and loved it. Preacher is also one of my all time fav. Check out Y the last man....its one of the best graphic novels.

Yep, Y was really good, I jumped on when I dragged my then girlfriend to ComicCon and then editor in chief of Vertigo Comics grabbed my girlfriend and talked her into starting to read comics with Y- the last man. :-) Any other suggestions? Sounds like we're on the same wavelength.
If you get a chance, read “Avengers Annual” #7 I think it set the pace for modern comics.

Hey Eric, I will check out Avengers Annual 7 for more Thanos action. Maybe you have already read 'Locke and Key' by Joe Hill...it is one of my favourites.

Have you read transmetropolitan?

Hi everyone, I'm Mary from Michigan. I've been reading comics since I was a kid. I mostly enjoy the horror/fantasy graphic novels, but I love my superheroes too!

Thanks !

My dad has a vast collection of comics, so I've always had them at the tips of my fingers. I definitely love superheroes, but lately I've been interested in graphic novels that are memoirs. I've read a fair few, but if you have any recs, I'd love to hear them!

Came across this one looking at the Frank Miller author page (from a poll in 2012..)
Anyway, I have read a lot of Grant Morrison and want some tips for branching out.
I was a dedicated reader of X-Men in the Claremont Byrne days, but have only come back in the last few years, after missing a lot.
This is my comics and graphic novels shelf:

Needless to say, if more graphic novels are like this, then they will forever be included in my library. I just picked up Saga Volume 1, and The Runaways Volume 1 also, but haven't gotten around to reading them yet.
If anybody has any other recommendations...please let me know.

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. I was happy to find a lot of great and entertaining non-superhero graphic novels. Some of my favorites:
My Favorite Thing Is Monsters by Emil Ferris
Blankets by Craig Thompson
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel
Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron
Scalped by Jason Aaron
Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley
The Hunting Accident by David Carlson
Kill or be Killed, Ed Brubaker
Descender, Jeff Lemire
Velvet, Ed Brubaker
The Fade Out, Ed Brubaker
The Nao of Brown, Glyn Dillon
Daytripper, Fábio Moon
Criminal, Ed Brubaker
The Sheriff of Babylon by Tom King
I Kill Giants, Joe Kelly

I love graphic novels/comics and i read a lot. I hope to be active in the groups and i will share what i'm reading and hope to find a lot of tips and thoughts about what i should be reading here =)

Some of my favorite comics are Groo, Saga, Y: The Last Man, Dampyr, Nathan Never... the list would go on and on! Since this is just an introduction, I'll keep it short :)

My favourite authors are Dave Sim, John Wagner, Jim Starlin, Jack Kirby and Alan Moore.
I have not been reading much the last two so I'm trying to catch up.
I'm currently trying to read all of the Cerebus "Phone-books" and the Judge Dredd "Complete Case Files" and also getting started on Astro City, Vol. 1: Life in the Big City, Miracleman, Book One: A Dream of Flying and The Flash By Geoff Johns Book One.

Neat to see another Thanos fan. Have you checked "The Metamorphosis Oddysey" also by Jim Starlin?

I am reading a lot of French and Belgian graphic novels and I love blogging about it. I also like some classics of the genre.
Manga is quite new to me but I am getting more and more the hang of it.

I’m Lazarus. I’ve been a comic book fan (as well as books) for a long, long time. Funnily enough, I first read a freaking Danielle Steele novel off my mom’s bookshelf when I was young (Fine Things, main character named Bernard, I never forget).
Thankfully she also had Robert McCammon on her shelf, who is my favorite author to this day.
On to graphic novels! I love the actual novel form or collected editions. I’m not an issue chaser. Growing up I liked a lot, from the X-Men to The Punisher, and around the bend to the Dark horse Alien and Predator comics. I can enjoy superhero comics, but I prefer Sci Fi/ horror.
Recent graphic novels I’ve read and or am reading: The Clean Room, Monstress, Birthright, The Nikopol Trilogy, and Empty Zone. My all time fav would have to be Locke & Key or The Walking Dead.
Recently I started watching My Hero Academia (not a giant anime guy but I like some) and the super hero approach from Japan was so refreshing to me, that I’m reading that manga (never bothered w/manga before) as well as a spinoff title called “Vigilantes”.
I found the group randomly, I registered on Goodreads a long time ago, but until I caught on to the “reading challenge” at the end of last year, I wasn’t really on here much.
Sorry for the long post, but hopefully I can add something good to this group, however small that good may be.

Dave

I actually do own the two hardcover editions of Lazarus that have been collected, I do like it. I’ll check the others out.

Always happy to receive new recommendations.
Have a good night everyone.

I later realize that I could read comics on my smartphone if I just use it in the automatic spinning mode. ;-)
Ok, I read comics a lot in the 80s and 90s, then, in the late 90s and early 2000 two things happened: I got married and the publishing of comics here in Brazil became scarce. Favorite things in the genre have always been Alan Moore, Gaiman, Jim Starlin, DeMatteis and Books of Magic from J.N Rieber. Some years ago I got into Warren Ellis and Kurt Busiek.
Since last year... A lot of things.

Generally, I read mostly "alternative comics," such as Charles Burns, David B., Harvey Pekar, etc. Superheroes don't do much for me but I am a fan of a lot of Image's series.

Hi Nick I'm Victor. I'm the author of the above graphic novel. Check it out with your group and let me know what they think. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

My name is DP Monet. I am a big fan of animation and have recently been writing a series of graphic novels. I have always been drawn to good artwork and exciting storytelling. I hope to get exposed to some works that will blow me back.

I'm finishing up my masters in secondary education this spring and I'll be teaching high school next year. I hope to find some friends I can share recommendations with.
