After reading Maus, and Persepolis, about 15 years ago, I got hooked to graphic novels.
I'm from Belgium, dutch speaking, but I like to read in the original language if possible, or the original translation. Thank god that's mostly English.
I haven't been reading much the past 10 years, so I have a lot to catch up on.
Hi everyone! I'm Carolina.
I joined the group because I like to be aware of what's out there :)
Cheers*

Awesome to see a friend here."
Hi Z!!! This looks like a really cool group :D

Sooooo, hi guys! And a shoutout to satiresarah on ebay!

Hope to find some good advice and offer some myself through this group. Currently reading "Hip Hop Family Tree". Just finished "Mouse I & II" and "French Milk".

Saga is definitely my favorite book in the genre right now. It has all the elements of a great story, which I find lacking in much of the graphic literature genre (the same can be said for the sci-fi genre, which I love but get frustrated with for the same reason). Saga is so imaginative, funny, and thought-provoking, and the characters are fascinating.
I am a big fan of The Hedge Knight. It is an excellent prequel to A Game of Thrones, but also a great story on its own and full of interesting scenes and colors.
Max Brooks' The Extinction Parade and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks are really cool. Marvel's recent Rocket Raccoon and Silver Surfer comics are awesome. And I am nearly finished with first compendium of The Walking Dead, which can be just as addictive as the TV show. I review everything I read (it's a great exercise in critical thinking), so feel free to check out my reviews and favorites on my profile. I would love to get recommendations of other graphic novels I should check out.

I just started now reading comic books, so if anyone wants to sugest me any books then feel free to do it.
The genres I like are crime, thrillers, action, super heroes, heists and comedy.

I am new to graphic novels but love them. My favorite is Marvel 1602 by Neil Gaiman but I am open to any genre.
I subscribe to Comic Bento which is a graphic novel subscription service.
I am always open to suggestions or advice about "must reads".

My name is Jess and I'm so looking forward to being part of this group. I absolutely love comics and graphic novels (ask anyone who knows me) and look forward to participating in a group where others feel the same! :) I read A LOT of DC and I'm just now getting into Manga/Animes. If anyone has recommendations please don't be afraid to tell!

My name is Rachel, and I live in Dallas TX. I am new to the graphich novel, and comic book world, but I have always been fascianated by them. Any recommendations, I will greatly apperciated. I really enjoy Image comics. When my nose isn't in a book, I am with friends or family, watching movies, staying active, or cheering on my Stars, Jayhawks, Cowboys, and Rangers.
I started a book club on goodreads, and hope some of you will joined. Fans of banned books will love it. Name is below.

Hi all, I was an avid comic book reader as a child and teenager, and now as an adult, I have a newfound interest in reading these. So many have been published while I have been "away", so this group seems just right.

Hi and welcome everyone else (on behalf of the moderator)
Welcome to the group new members. Enjoy your time here and hope you pickup something of new that interest you here.
Just an FYI. The Buddy Reads Free Comic Books folder is going to be restarted and revamped to start again some time in March, with many choices. Keep an eye on that if you are interested in being a participating member of that group.

Excited to be here!

I'm probably the old man of the group. I am 51. Grew up reading X-Men from around issue 70 or so through 160 or so. Loved the Dark Phoenix saga. Also loved FF and Avengers.
Maybe it's nostalgia, I'm not sure. But lately, I've been wanting to revisit the enjoyment I had reading comics. I just watched Watchmen again, and have V for Vendetta on my list to watch again. Can't wait for Civil War.
As a kid, I wanted to become a Marvel artist. My dad convinced me to "get a real job" instead. I've been a professional IT Manager / Director. That's paid the bills.
I just got Manga 5 and a Wacom Art tablet, along with and oldy but goody "how to draw comics the marvel way". Been taking an online course by Patrick Brown on comic book inking and coloring. Just doing it for me, for fun.
I regret my dad telling me to "get a real job" as I put away my dreams. I paint in oil paints (you can see my art online http://www.facebook.com/artistrobertp... for fun. I make a little $ at it. Trust me. It doesn't pay squat. But I do enjoy creating works of art.
Now I'm reading some graphic novels and trying to get to the point where I might try my hand at a singular issue of my own comic, drawn, inked, and colored by yours truly. I may not work for marvel. But I'd like the accomplishment to have tried even once just for myself.
I enjoy great art, inking, and coloring. That's what I look for first. Then I look for adult (mature, not porn) themes. Watchmen was fantastic, so was V. Heady stuff. Velvet looks good. I'm awaiting my copy to arrive. Should be here in a day or so.
Thanks for listening. I hope I don't get flamed for being and old coot. But while my age keeps ticking along and I've started my silver years, I still feel like a young man who enjoys adventure, action, dynamic art work, and great stores as told from comics.
And yes, I still play video games too. Just finished Fallout 4. Thinking of X-Com 2 next, or the new Lara Croft.
Until next time.

I am 21. I just recently started reading graphic novels/comics. Well, I have read some here and there before, but it never started with the first issue and I never kept up with it.
I believe the first one I read (that I have kept up with) is Saga. I am currently reading I Hate Fairyland and Tomboy and I absolutely love them! I am trying to catch up with Deadly Class; trying to finish Young Avengers.
I usually read a lot of YA (young adult) before starting on this new amazing road. Anyways, yeah ...

I also read coffee table books such as general facts and trivias. My novel authors: Dan Brown, James Rollin and Steve Berry.
As a starter, I read: Charles Burn's "Black Hole", Chris Ware's "Jimmy Corrigan", David Mazzucchelli's "Asterios Polyp"....I'm not more into Superpowers plot, just ordinary life and ordinary people with a extra-twist interest me.
Hi, I'm Sonja from Vermont. I am a reader. Sometimes I review comics and Graphic Novels. It's a good genre for me because I am a visual artist and I live with Traumatic Brain Injury. Sometimes I read quite slowly. I often prefer audiobooks. I like many many graphic novels and sequential art. I prefer catalogs from specific publishers. For example, Fantagraphics and Drawn and Quarterly. I like graphic novels that are inspired from text-only classics, especially magical realism and satire. For example the Master and the Margarita. I'm fortunate to live near a school library so there are many graphic novels to choose from. I don't like reading graphic novels on kindle if I don't have to. There is so much I love about them! I tend towards stand alone work like Persepolis and La Perdida. Recently I have been interested in the series of Hellblazer and Alabaster. Thanks

See you guys around! :)

I'd love any recs for starting to looking into the Marvel/DC Universes. I have Young Avengers to read coming up as well!

Hello. Some graphic novels that I read are "The Walking Dead," "Invincible," and "X-Factor."

I've been reading comics and graphic novels for a while now, and usually whatever is available from public libraries. However, of late I have discovered e-comics, and so am branching out -- most recently into comics from Astiberri (in Spanish - most recently Paco Roco) and ploughing through heaps courtesy of Marvel Unlimited (most recently "Ultimate Spiderman" Miles Morales, now starting to read the "Infinity Gauntlet" event).
I love the advent of e-comics! The idea of the comics store was always fraught with horror at the idea of visiting; not at being seen, but because of the way that comic store vendors can be towards women!

Last fall, I decided I want to try to write graphic memoir--which of course means that I need to READ lots of graphic memoirs and novels first.
I'm a fan of all good storytelling--especially when the protagonist has a strong emotional arc. Fiction, non, anything really.
Looking forward to hearing all of your suggestions.

I'm Anna from Minneapolis. I'm brand new to Goodreads and just sort of getting my bearings. I'm a big fan of the genre and wanted to connect with others who feel the same! My favorite is Watchmen (I know, weird, right?) and I am currently about half through Sandman, which of course is fabulous. I am also working my way through several Marvel characters from their beginning. Can't wait to discuss more with everybody!

I'm a retired librarian in New York City, and I've been a comic book reader since I was seven years old. I grew up a DC Comics fan, but now I read more widely, including Marvel, DC, Image, and various titles from smaller companies. I also enjoy science fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, and suspense, among other genres. I consider myself an eclectic reader.
