Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments And now..........

I have finally finished Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, #1) by Gena Showalter for the Shifters space. (School has drastically affected my reading. Makes me sad...)

1. Date finished: 9/2/11

2. Rating: ★★★★★

3. Review: *sighs* This book just added a bunch more reasons to the list of why I absolutely love dragons. Darius is just..... *sighs and eyes glaze over with a dreamy look* Errr.... *shakes head* My bad.... Anyways, loved Darius and Grace. I totally want to lick him too. Brand, Darius' second/BFF (or whatever) was quite fun from the glimpses of him that I got. I'd like to see more of him. (Preferably without clothes....)

Atlantis sounds both awesome and scary at the same time. I'm curious as to what wondrous things are waiting for me in the next book.

This book has further solidified my girl crush on Gena Showalter. I'm trying really hard not to squeal right now. Hehe.

I ♥ dragons soo much, I'm even considering getting a dragon tattoo. I'm a little crazy. It'll be totally badass if I do it though. Probably won't happen any time soon though. Not much money and not sure where I'll put it. At least I already know what it will look like. *checks one thing off the list*

It's a holiday weekend, which means I don't have school until Wednesday. Eeep! I have a date scheduled with The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter . We're going to spend the weekend in bed. *winks*

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments CONGRATULATIONS, Published Enemy #1!
You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'shifters'.

[Your new BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]

Good Job!! :D

**Sorry, hun. Your book doesn't seem to fit for the 'free space' read, Miss Suzanne. The FS book should be either (1) on our bookshelf, (2) a BOM read during the game, or (3) on a new rls thread during the game. Got another one that'll fit?

message 359: by Suzanne (last edited Sep 03, 2011 07:19AM) (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments Hmmm, not sure, I thought it could be a book that was on our shelf that our team had read during the game, that's why I picked it? It was Thenia's Four Star Shelf pick and I had it from the library already. I'll look and see what's on the BOM shelf...I guess I can read First Grave on the Right since that was Thenia's Free Space choice. I have that one sitting on my bedstand.

Sandra | 25908 comments Suzanne, just so you know 'our bookshelf' refers to SOS's bookshelf at the bottom of our page, and there are 844 books on it, at the moment. All members are encouraged to add books of a pnr or uf nature.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Sorry, hun. But, I see how ya could'a thought "our shelf" referred to your team, but it's OUR team (SOS Group shelf). ;) Not a bad option to add for a future round though, I'll try to remember when we go into R4. :D

You will LOVE First Grave on the Right (I hope), Charlie is a hoot! I'm reading #2 right now and just love her. I'm annoying my hubby b/c I keep giggling and when he asks, "Ok, what happened now?" I tell him, "Ya gotta read it to find out." ;)

I'm not loving it so far...I'm going to switch to Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning . I know I'll like that one.

LOL on the "get it over with!" on Breaking Dawn. I hope you like it...I thought it was the weakest of the series.

message 367: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments That was easy.

I'm going to read Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead for the Supernatural space.

I'm getting to the point where I need a little YA to break up all the adult lovin' going on. Hehe.

Thenia | 977 comments Alyssa I just finished Bloodlines yesterday! Enjoy! ^^

I think I'll read A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare for the Supernatural shelf. I have it in audio so it might take some time... If i finish another book that fits the shelf I might use that one. Too many choices!

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4) by Cassandra Clare

I'm done with City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare for the Demons shelf.

1. Date finished: 05 September 2011
2. Rating: ***
3. Review: This book was ok, I really like the story. I wish this were an adult book rather than a Young Adult book, because there would be a lot more action in more ways than one. I didn't like the ending. For a bunch of newbie Shadow Hunters, it seems pretty unrealistic for them to defeat the "thing" that they did. I would've liked to have seen that story line continue to make it more believeable. At any rate, it was still better than the ones that came before it ;)

message 372: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments I finished A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare

Date finished: 05 September 2011

Rating: ★★★

Review:
Superb use of the English language (they didn't call him "the bard" for nothing)! I was familiar with the story more or less and although I hoped for a change of mind, I still don't like it.

I listened to the audiobook for this one and some of the actors got on my nerves - the accents, the laughs, even the background music kind of annoyed me, but maybe it was the atmosphere of the story in general.

I do not like the fey. Especially the way they are portrayed here - bored, arrogant, selfish overgrown babies that meddle where they shouldn't.

There were more than one stories going on, all connected somehow. I only found one remotely interesting. The others were mostly pointless and I didn't even find them entertaining.

Something I did find entertaining were the insults! So eloquent!

message 373: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I just took a look at our Bingo Card. I think the Supernatural is more helpful than the stupid Demon shelf because it's off by itself. Which means we need to finish off the Free Space and the Supernatural shelf first. Demons should not be our priority.

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments Vi:
You are so right. There isn't anything right now that can work with Demons.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I just finished Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead for the Supernatural space.

1. Date finished: 9/8/11

2. Rating: ★★★★★

3. Review:

----------Disclaimer--------------
You all should probably cover your ears at least for the beginning. It's going to get very loud. I won't feel sorry for those who end with sore ears, cuz they didn't heed my warning.
----------------------------------

HOLY BEJEEZUS!!!! SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! I thought Bloodlines was freakin' AWESOME!

I had thought Sydney would be a pretty cool character to get to know more about at the end of the Vampire Academy series, and for me, she was wonderful. After all, we were only told so much about the Alchemists. It was interesting to learn more about their culture. Sydney is super smart, a little snarky, and a little bit naive about the world. Still much to uncover about hear though. I can't wait.

Finding out more about Jill, Adrian, and Eddie was fun too. I liked them all before, but it was great to see more of them. Jill is growing up, and I thought she was doing pretty well considering all the changes in her life. Adrian is Adrian, which is always a good time. I really liked Eddie from VA, so I was super excited to see more of him in this new series. I only want him to be happy.

Can't wait for next June. That's when The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead comes out. It's like forever away though! What ever will I do to pass the time.....

message 376: by Alyssa (last edited Sep 08, 2011 08:39PM) (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments *sighs* I don't know what to read now.... I need to read a book for the Demons space, but I'm not sure if I want to read the one I picked. I shouldn't have switched from Adult to YA. I'm thinking that's what did me in.

So, I'm going to ask for some opinions. The problem is that I don't know if I'll get any responses by tomorrow morning. (I can't go to school without a book! I have an hour break. What else would I do? Study? Haha. Real funny.)

So, here's what I've come up with.....

I could stick with The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter , or pick a new one out of the following....

My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, #1) by Rachel Vincent What a Goddess Wants (Forgotten Goddesses, #1) by Stephanie Julian Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Halo (Halo, #1) by Alexandra Adornetto Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison

.....I'm getting super tired, so that's enough choices. Sooo.... Help! *pouts*

message 379: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Alyssa, wait for the third book in the Hex Hall series coming out next year - I know the second book has a cliffhanger - which is why I'm waiting for next year so that I can read the entire series (even though I bought the second book the day it came out!)

Did you like Dead Witch Walking? I've wanted to try out the series but so far, I haven't started it.

message 380: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Vi wrote: "Did you like Dead Witch Walking? I've wanted to try out the series but so far, I haven't started it."

I gave it 4 stars. I liked it. I did get a tiny bit bored sometimes. Not quite as much action (or something like that) as in the first two Fever books that I've read. (I don't know why I'm comparing the two at all. I guess I'm just saying that I like it, and I'll keep reading the series, but after the first book, it's not an absolute favorite of mine.)

Jenks is pretty funny though. And, Ivy is cool. I think I almost was a little annoyed with Rachel, so that may be why it wasn't super awesome in my opinion.

I'd say try it if you have the time, Vi. You can always quit in the middle of the book, or just not continue with the series after you finish it.

message 381: by Vi (last edited Sep 08, 2011 09:51PM) (new)

Vi | 943 comments I finished The Princess Bride for the Supernatural Shelf today (9 September)

My Rating: ★★★

Review: This book seemingly exploded into my life a month or two back when people suddenly kept recommending it. I went into the book having big expectations (how could you not?). I have not watched the movie, so I did not know what was going to happen. But sadly, I was a little underwhelmed. Overall, it was a pretty ok book, but it did not live up to my expectation.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Jenks just gets better and better! He has my vote!

Yeah - Demonglass had a bit of a cliffhanger....I'm not just wiggling in my seat with anticipation, but would have loved to be able to read them all together.

My Soul to Take was good, but not awesome. Definitely worth reading, but LotU is so.......dreamy, I guess.

message 383: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I hate to say it, but I maybe have gotten a little burnt out on LotU after reading 4 books in a row.

I don't even have Demonglass, so that's not really a problem.

I was thinking about My Soul to Take, but I also don't have the next one for that either.

*sighs* Maybe I'll just stuff them all in my backpack and pick one later. Lol.

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1024 comments I'd definately go with The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that series! It's very sassy and funny and the main characters crack me up! It's definately worth a read!

P.S. I'm halfway through my Free Space read, I"m reading Halfway to the Grave and I checked to see if it was on the SOS shelf ;)

message 385: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Suzanne, I'm reading Halfway to the Grave for this book club thing on a blog I follow. It's two chapters a week. I'm enjoying it, so I'm finding it hard to stop after just two chapters. *sighs*

Ok, Suzanne. You've convinced me.

I'm going to change my Demons book from The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter to The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison , Kristen. Thanks!

Now, it's time for a treat....

Date: 9/9/11

Review: This is a good series. I haven't been disappointed with any of the books. Mac just gets more awesome and Barrons more brooding. The new "worlds" in this book keep the series fresh. There are too many spoilers to say much more without giving things away.

I could still end up changing my mind.

Have fun! :-)

Josie | 1967 comments I've finished my book for the 'supernatural' shelf

Forsaken (The Demon Trappers, #1) by Jana Oliver

Title/Author: Forsaken by Jana Oliver
Date finished: 11 September 2011
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review: I liked this book, the world building was interesting and I liked the different types of demons.
However there were certain things that kept me back from increasing my rating. They're mainly small points but it's always the little things that annoy you, right?
- In the acknowledgements, the author thanks Kristin Cast for making the teens sound "their age" rather than old. Wasted effort. For a start, who put K.Cast in charge of how teens sound? The HoN series is notorious for how bad the teens sound (IMO, Cynthia Hand, Rick Riordan, JK Rowling, Samantha Young, Kiersten White, Patrick Ness and Jamie McGuire are some of the authors who get it right). I feel young-adult is, in a sense, for everyone so trying to appeal to teens by shoving the word 'like' in every sentence and making your character immature (seriously, you would've thought after losing your mum and dad, it would put some things into perspective) just alienates everyone else (including teens). For example, when she was talking about graffiti, the author put "most involving the 'f' word." Oh for goodness sake, either say it or if you want to keep the book "clean" then say swearing or cursing, don't act like a 5 year old!
- Beck kept calling Riley's dad "daddy". It just freaked me out. I mean I wouldn't have minded if Riley called him that but seriously, this guy is over 20 years old! Why did he keep calling him that?? It's weird and also patronizing to Riley.
- There wasn't much history on how the demons came to earth, when it happened etc. I would've liked some more but I do understand that she didn't want to info-dump.
- Some guy called Ori was mentioned on the blurb but seeing as we didn't meet him until about 100 pages from the end, it was completely pointless. I swear there should be a rule where if the information occurs over 10% into the book, it shouldn't be given away.
Gah! I'm in a picky mood today, it wasn't that bad lol. I just didn't love it.

Okie dokie, let's try this again. I've finished Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost for the Free Space shelf. I absolutely loved this book! I usually don't care for the first book in a new series, but this book I loved! It was funny, with lots of action and it made me want to read the next book in the series right away! I have found my Anita Blake replacement ;)
