Shadowings by Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo)
I am a bit of a Japanphile, I also love scary stories and folkstories. This book combines the three. As an added bonus, the stories covered early in this book originated from the part of Japan where I lived. I love revisiting those days. ^_^
Task #20.6 Seasoned Reader - Heather KS's task: Summer Reading
Sex and the Slayer: A Gender Studies Primer for the Buffy Fan by Lorna Jowett
Read this in a few separate places: basking in the sun at the beach, relaxing on my lanai, curled up in bed, and sprawled out on the couch. The common theme is just general relaxing. I'm currently a graduate student (just finished my first year) and spent the academic reading a lot and while I love my field it's great to finally have time to read for pleasure...even if this book was a bit more academic leaning than the other books I've read this summer.

5.3. The Dog Days of Summer
I read Started Early, Took My Dog
10.6 -- Gay Pride
I read Meredith Baxter's memoir, Untied: A Memoir of Family, Fame, and Floundering. I think it was particularly interesting in light of the fact that her recognition of a sexual identity that was better for her came about in her 50's, after 3 marriages and 5 children.
20.2 Rookie at the Top - Nickboy's task: NETHERLANDS Is an Eleven Letter Word
I chose option A and read Slaughterhouse-Five, with 14 letters in the word "slaughterhouse."
30.8 -- Beth NC's Task: Summer Solstice
I chose option B, and read
The Mists of Avalon - at 912 pages, definitely one of the longest on my TBR - and I loved it, thought it was well worth the time reading it.
I also read Deciding the Next Decider: The 2008 Presidential Race in Rhyme, 128 pages, so one of the shortest on my list.

10.9 Around the Campfire.....
Ghost Stories of California (Ghost Stories
by Barbara Smith
4 stars
This book was really fun for me, partly because it featured the Whaley House, in San Diego, where I live. I've had three interesting "experiences" there.
I even took my skeptical boyfriend, who said he felt strange the minute he walked in the door. It was fun to read what others have encountered in this historical landmark.
