Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments But once again I didn't get any of my Freespace book read. I met up with a PBSer that I made friends with and we talked romance books for over an hour. Then I picked up a book I got from Booksfree only to realize that I had read it already. So I'm glad I looked at it tonight because now I can send it back quickly.

LMAO! Carpet angels & shaking booties! Too funny! I'm happy you're a member of my team, as well. You sure as hell bring laughter & fun to dull days.

Cool purchases, Mary! I haven't gotten around to reading Singh's PC series yet but I hope you enjoy them! And Shadowfever! AHHHH!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I am changing my free space book to Trace's Psychic by Jory STrong. I did add this book to the group bookshelf myself. But I reread the Q&A thread and 2 different people suggested that adding books to the group shelf was OK to someone else. But I can change it back to Red Fire if anyone has a problem with me using Trace's Psychic.

message 206: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Mary, Trace's Psychic is fine. I've got that one myself, it's a wonder it wasn't already on there.

message 207: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I added the whole series. The group bookshelf is kind of small. I have more books than that in my bedroom. So I added some that went with other series that were on there (anthologies with series shorts) a new to me Urban Fantasy book that I really liked and the psychic bond books by Jory Strong.

I'm half way through and I really like it. I have Storm's Faeries in my TBR already. Too bad my PBS WL is full and I can't add the other 2 yet.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I mistakenly shelved Trace's Psychic as Fae/Fairy when she's actually half-elf. Or are elves Fae? The LOTR beautiful kind not the midget Keebler kind.

I'll add it to the list. I'm glad that you were able to find a book you're enjoying, Mary! I've read Strong's "Ghostland World" series & adore it but I haven't read any other books by her so far.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I haven't read the Ghostworld books yet. I read Fallon Mates recently and liked it a lot. I've read a few of her non-parnormal erotic romances and liked them. I think I looked at one of the Ghostworld books and hte cover creaped me out. But I'm sure I'll get to them at some point. I should see if they're on the list.

I am lucky in that I have a desk job and a boss (Mom) that doesn't mind if I come online when all my work is done. Like on Fridays when I'm the only one here and just here to answer the phone. But since most of our customers are also either closed on Fridays or know no one else is here-the phone barely rings. And so I surf, do my reviews, read and do some minor cleaning (just to get off my butt for a bit).

LOL! I like the covers. The artwork is beautiful IMO but I agree, they do seem a little frightening. Especially Spider-Touched (Ghostland World, #2) by Jory Strong . I'm arachnophobic; it took awhile for me to get used to that cover.

Ah, yes. THAT cover. I know what you mean. I passed on buying it at least 4 times because I thought it was a creepy ghost story. Or Children of the Corn. *shudder* It wasn't until I read a few reviews online that I realized it wasn't.

It's the safest way, at least!

Did manage to finish the review before bed! Apparently I suck at writing shorter thoughts about books though, but I've done my best, haha.

Part of a Series:

A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole
Finished: 12-03-2011
Rating: ★★★★½

I was afraid of starting this series, since I've heard so many good things about it and really wanted to like it, so I almost expected to be disappointed. Guess what? I wasn't. Not at all! I should have listened to all IAD readers out there and just started it right away.

I loved A Hunger Like No Other even more than the prequel. The mythology, the writing, the characters... I especially love the Valkyrie though; they all truly are one of a kind. Of course, the main characters were very lovable as well. I really liked that Emma was so careful and innocent, yet still managed to handle herself when a situation presented itself. It's not the usual type of heroine you come across when reading. And Lachlain... Although not being a gentleman at all, for most of the time, (and a werewolf; a species I for some reason can't stand) I really came to love him. He had his issues but still tried his hardest to make Emma happy. Plus, I really am a sucker for those tough men with a soft spot for their woman!

After finally getting the time, all I can say is that I really loved it. I could barley put it down for the second half of it, and had to 1-Click home the sequel as soon as I'd turned the final page. Now I have it ready, waiting for me to pick it up, and I can't wait! This series' definitely worth a try.

message 228: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments Hi Everyone!

Just finished for shelf 'Part of a Series' Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs 12/03 - ★★★★★
This book is my favorite in the series so far.

Being book 5 - I figured it would continue the awesomeness - or would pretty much suck - and become a repeat of the others.

It was great seeing the story unfold, the relationships continue to develop and grow. I felt it was the most settled and mature so far.

What I loved:
* Adam and Mercy's relationship continuing to develop.
* Sam being much more a key player.
* The bit of diversity - Adams issues/pack issues/fae issues/Sam's issues.....
* Mercy maturing, and not being as reactive.

What was a bit frustrating:
* Would've liked a little more during the height of the drama.
* The pack members were really just brief cameos - yet impacted much of the story. Hopefully we see them a bit more in the future books.

I love this series!

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Congrats on finishing your "Part of a Series" reads, Rebecca & Shannon! As soon as Kristen finishes hers, we'll be able to receive our Stamp! Yay!

@ Shannon: I LOVE your review format. Would you mind if I borrowed it for a few of the reviews I post in this game?

message 230: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments Also finished Rogue (Shifters, #2) by Rachel Vincent 9/3 ★★★★ - for the 'Freespace' shelf

Reading Rogue has made me adjust my previous rating of Stray - just heaps better!

The story continues with Faythe, and as much as she is still kinda annoying in her impulsive/self-centred ways - she's kinda cool for the same reasons.

Faythe is still with the pride, trying to prove that she can match it with the men as an enforcer, when dead bodies start appearing.

The build up was really good, the actual 'action' was great... my only reason for the 4 out of 5 is there was just 'something' missing...can't put my finger on it - but it was just lacking that little element to make it awesome... And I wish that she hooked up with someone other than Marc (he just annoys me) :)

message 235: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yay. I was hoping it would post today. Even though I might start my shifter book until tomorrow or Monday. I have 2 PBS game books to read this weekend and neither contains a shifter. One has a paranormal element but it's a psychic thing. But now I can at least pick the shifter book I want to use and dig it out.

message 236: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ugh. I just went ot PBS to read a message and it's about another game ending. That book is shelved on various shelves with shifter but not plain shifters. The Dead Travel Fast.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I think I have that one, Mary. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. Happy Shifter Hunting. I'm off to check out the shelf and see what I can find too. :)

message 238: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, yay! I was hoping it would be announced today. Had some problem deciding what to read and if it was better to wait... Problem solved! Now I'm off to look through the shelf!

message 239: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

I think I will use the above for this since I just got books 2, 4 and 5 at the Borders closing sale and have book 1 for months now. Maybe I'll use the next Borders coupon I get on book 3.

I'll probably have through next weekend to read and mail Dead so maybe I'll get lucky and next week one it' shelves will be called. I can hope anyway.

message 240: by [deleted user] (new)

So many good ones for this shelf! Hmm.. tough choice, but I think I'll have to continue with IAD and will read No Rest for the Wicked. :)

message 241: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments YAY for our 2nd shelves! Great picks, Mary & Rebecca! I haven't read Singh's "PC" series yet but I adore her "Guild Hunter" one. As for IAD, it was my least favorite in this fantastic series but still pretty good.

I'm going to read Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger for Shifters & Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins for Free Space from the SOS bookshelf.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments So do we get told when another team earns a stamp? Or do we have to go through their team posts to see that? Just wondering I don't plan on spying on them or anything, it's just a game. But I would be curious. So I can start nagging any slackers on our team. (just kidding, I wouldn't have the nerve to do that). Plus it's only been a week so no ones had a chance to turn into a slacker. Just wondering.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Steph's team #4 is the only team to earn their stamp for the 1st shelf, so far. And you can snoop around all you like. :) I did that just this morning--checked out the other groups to see where they stand, so I could post those stats on my group to give them a mini kick in the butt.

And I love when members from other teams pop in to our group with a post. They're not exclusive at all, everyone is welcome at all the other team threads. :)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments Good day all!! New Shelf!! YAY!!!
I'll be reading No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) (Were-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon .
Mary, I have Slave to Sensation as one of picks for the shelves. I've had it for ages but I'm now eager to read it.
Rebecca, like Lethal, NRFTW wasn't one of my faves, but it didn't keep me from coming back to the series.
Lethal, I really liked Soulless and the rest of the series. There's another book coming out later this year.

Go Team Scratch & Sniff! We're on our way to our first stamp!! :)

message 246: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments Morning!
Really loving this genre at the moment! And the shelf was perfecct timing for me to follow on with the 3rd in the Shifters series.
So I'll be reading Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent

message 247: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Lethal & Kimberly Well, hopefully it won't be too bad! I'll give it a try in any case. :)

message 248: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK don't be mad Lethal but I'm changing my shifter book. I posted a bunch of books I haven't read yet to my PBS bookshelf. And Wild Rain by Christine Feehan is one of them. So I'm going to read that instead so it's read if it ever gets ordered. I promise not to change it again.

message 249: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Great picks, Kimberly & Shannon!

@ Rebecca: I don't think it will be bad at all. Yes, it's my least favorite IAD book but Cole is such a gifted writer IMO that her worse is better than a lot of authors bests.

@ Mary: It's no problem! You are allowed to change your books. In fact, I encourage my teammates to change their books if they aren't feeling it or want to read something else. I'd rather you pick more than one book then feel like you have to read one you hate.

message 250: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Well, I think (THINK) I will read Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer for this weeks book. Shifters is about as open a shelf as saying 'a book'...too many options. ;)

I only read the first 2 of these and then my brain wandered off somewhere else. I think I discovered LoTU and of course Twilight didn't stand a chance against 'Flowers', and the gang! Meeeerowww! ;)

I hear Eclipse is better than New Moon, so here's hoping!
