R2 TEAM THREAD: Team #2 Scratch & Sniff

Kristen, The Battle of the Labyrinth was your book for "Part of a Series", correct? If your date read was 3/3/11, ..."
I'll check out when I finished...and let you know.

I finished it on 3/4...that's too early, isn't it?

LL, I saw your note so I'll answer here for everyone to see.
Ok, long story short..
I was finishing a book the day the shelf was announced, so I plowed through and finished that one. I didn't start The Vampire's Bride until Sunday. I'm half-way through and should finish it today. Otherwise I'm taking that sucker to work tomorrow and finishing it, gosh darnit!
I'll start the Free Space book immediately after that and should be finished fairly quickly.
No pressure on myself, right? :P
Alright, back to it!

I'm hoping the next shelf is Fantasy or Paranormal Romance related because I have 2 books coming from Booksfree.com that fit that theme and I like to read them right away. Of course now an appropriate shelf will be called and the books will take a tour of the 50 Continental US states before getting to me instead of the normal 3-5 days.

I have the opposite worry. I've picked out this or that for a shelf....but how long until it's called? It could take weeks......months......what if it's never called!?!

And yes Mary you did it right!

Mary, are you reading "Red Fire" for your free-space read? Just curious, so I can update the overall game spreadsheet. Hope your BF books arrive on time. The mail system can be a bitch, as I continuing tappin' my foot impatiently waiting for "River Marked" to arrive. ;)
Yep - never can tell when (or if) a shelf will be called. I leave that up to Mr. Randomizer. Sometimes he's nice to us/me and sometimes he's a bit wicked.

@ Kristen: Thanks, Kristen. I'll add it to the list. Good luck!

Definitely no pressure. ☺ Thanks for answering my question. I wanted to let you know that I wasn't trying to rush you to finish by asking how your book was going. I saw your progress on my friend updates & as someone who's curious about what my friends read, I thought I'd ask if you were liking it or not. I was asking as a "friend" not as "Team Captain of Scratch & Sniff." ☺

No no no! I didn't think you were pressuring me at all!! I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to come out that way. If anything, I was just giving a general update.

Were you able to keep your mitts off your choices and save them for this round? I'm not that strong! Creeps, it's a good thing that books are my only addiction. 12 steps is way too many! I would be the 5 step girl. :)

I'm not actually on your team, just nosing around but when I read your post I had to smile at myself as I did exactly the same with "Iron Crowned" (I assume that's the one you're talking about?). I skimmed through the last chapter and got so disgusted with Eugenie that I had to take a break from her. I actually started on another book, lol. I shall get back to her eventually though.

LOL! Yes! Someone who understands my pain! Lucky you, you get to put it down. I'm trying to balance out my hatred with Catching Fire-which really isn't such a good idea when I think about it. Yes, I'm enjoying CF but it's really sad. So either I read a book that pisses me off or a book that makes me depressed. =(
Steph, disgusted is an understatement for me. I shouldn't be surprised that she would do what she did. After all, I've always thought she was hella stupid & slutty. But I actually started to like her a little in Thorn Queen. Now my warm fuzzy feelings have turned into thoughts of homicide.

Dana, I never even looked for books on those shelves. Sorry, I don't go looking for books until the shelf is called, and then I see what I was going to read anyway, and then read that.

@Dana/Sandra, same for me actually. Only 1-2 shelves where I didn't find a current monthly challenge read, already picked out TBR, on the shelf. And, even then I found ones I was already interested in checking out. Worked out well, hopefully will this round too. :)

I also can't resist the lure of bookstores, but don't usually buy there (no list, selection limitations) Did you know amazon won't let you order more than 100 books at one time? Though, that wasn't all MY books...ordered students' books, too
Now wondering whether I'll like Thorn Queen, too....

Oh my gosh, it was just getting painful, you know? I wasn't into it like I thought I would be and I was too far along to just stop reading and start something else.
Gena Showalter is one of my faves, but this wasn't cutting it. It got 3 stars BECAUSE it was Gena. KWIM?

*plugs ears*
Lalalaaaa! I can't hear any of you!!!
I've been putting this series off for a while and now people are disgusted with Eugenie?
I can't wait for the shelf I have the first book on to be called!

LOL! I definitely KWYM. :) Gotta give your favorite authors some love sometimes, even if the book let's ya down.

I'm still hopeful, have really enjoyed the series so far and going to do my best to forget about the "bad girl/decision" comments when I start the IC. :)

Iron Crowned ★★☆☆☆ 3/8/11
How can I write this review without spoilers? Hmmm. Okay, I'll start off by saying that I never really cared for Eugenie. She's very blunt, tactless & childish-& if I wanted that, I could get my fix from the plethora of angst that the YA genre has to offer. I did feel sympathy for E in Thorn Queen but this book has reinforced my hateful feelings towards her. She makes extremely stupid decisions in this novel. She trusts the wrong people & alienates the right people. She does something that is unforgivable IMO & there is no going back from that, I don't give a fuck how sorry she feels. IMO, she deserved everything that she got & I hope karma bites her in the ass big time in book #4. Of course, I won't know anyway. Eugenie has not one redeemable quality that I can think of, so therefore I'm done with this series. There are much better books out there waiting for some QT with me.

I liked this one and I want to read the rest of the series. Mac is a "Null" - a person who can see and freeze Fae - but she didn't know it until she met Barrons, and who knows what he is (other than strong, sexy, and mysterious). The book is set in Dublin, where Mac is trying to figure out who violently killed her sister, Alina. It seems there are too many Fae on the loose in Dublin and Mac is in for an education.

Yeah...I want to apologize for that. I wrote this review when I was very pissed off & I guess I ranted more than a little. Maybe I should rewrite it now that my anger isn't so extreme.
Way to go finishing you free space book, Kristen! Would you mind linking to your review or copying & pasting it here?

Nooo! I don't think you should rewrite it since that was how you really felt when you finished it!

Congrats on finishing your free space read, Rachel! Woo! It's a relief to know you're enjoying Harris' "Harper Connelly" series. I've only read the "Southern Vampire Mysteries" one but I've been wanting to give one of her others a try.

*shakes head*
Nah.

If you are, then so am I! ;) (I knew I loved this team.) You are supposed to feel something about your books after your read them. If you felt nothing really, then you could have stared off into space for hours instead of reading said book. Even if I hate it, I would rather that strong feeling than nothing.
**Insane behavior to follow**
I bought Pale Demon 30 minutes after my bookstore opened and spent the next 8 hours reading like a maniac. Inhaling, devouring, and basically becoming one with the book. When I finished and closed the story I was quiet for a moment. Then I gave a huge whoop, jumped out of my chair, high-stepped in a circle, shook my booty around a bit, and then threw myself on the floor and made 'carpet angels' for a minute!
And you think you are crazy?!?....... ;P

I hit the Borders closing sale today and bought 3 Nalini Signs (Psy bks 2 and 4). They didn't have book 3. I have book 1. They had ones after book 4 but I restrained myself and only bought 2 and 4. Now I have to find bk 3 somewhere.
And I also got:

Books mentioned in this topic
The Radleys (other topics)Chains of Fire (other topics)
No Mercy (other topics)
Falcondance (other topics)
Silver Borne (other topics)

Rebecca is correct. Thanks, Rebecca! You can read the free space at anytime, although IIRC the teams from R1 read them fairly quickly since the free space is in the middle of the board & controls 4 possible bingoes. I haven't even picked which book I'm going to read for that space yet.
