Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments 5.8 New Beginning
Cowboy Bebop, Vol. 1

The first book of a three-book series.

5.10 About the Author
Little by Little: A Writer's Education by and about children's book author, Jean Little

10.1 Birthday Wishes
Hatchet from Lori(BNPL)'s list

10.3 Slainte!
The Core Performance: The Revolutionary Workout Program to Transform Your Body & Your Life

This was recommended to give me ideas for more exercises. For the record, I loathe this kind of book with a deep and enduring passion. Jes' sayin'.

10.6 Cookie Exchange
The Devil's Larder: A Feast (Devil's Food Cookies = http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Devils-F...)

10.8 Promise Her Anything...
Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard (girls are wearing jewelry)

10.9 Serial Killer
Cowboy Bebop, Vol. 3

The final book of the series.

15.2 Beginnings and Endings
Vampire Academy (beginnings) and The Thief (endings)

15.3 A to Z
Amulet, Book 1: The Stonekeeper and The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From the Living Dead

15.8 Festivus for the Rest of Us
Help! I'm Trapped in a Supermodel's Body

One of my biggest pet peeves is the idea that only people who look like supermodels are worthy of being considered beautiful. The media perpetuates this, and I get the impression they're in cahoots with the self-help industry to get people feeling like crud about themselves so everyone will race out to buy tapes and books and things like that in order to fit some impossible ideal. I could rant all day about this, but my words are "supermodel's body" and "help."

20.1 Groundhog Day
Rainbow Party

This was one of the very first books I read when I began reading to recommend things to my students, and I actually had to write a defense of it for one of my courses (a class on YA lit and censorship). By far one of the best classes I ever took, but the book still only rates a 3 in my eyes. Too bash-over-the-head-with-the-point for me, and I have the feeling a lot of the kids would take away the idea of actually having a BJ party, rather than the actual message of "don't do anything intimate unless you really want to, or else you'll probably get some awful STI, like gonorrhea."

20.5 Bigger is Better and Larger than Life
Cowboy Bebop, Vol. 2

This volume focused on five very unconventional women: two gamblers (the protagonist and her mentor); a reporter who ignored everyone around her who said she'd never make it as a headliner; a musician who wandered the solar system looking for her father and playing music; and a brilliant, scatterbrained hacker who accidentally saved someone's life while pursuing a delicious meal.

25.2 Thank You, Mods!
O Pioneers! and The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, both from DLMRose's list.

Thank you, mods! I love you for all the work you do :3

25.4 IMBOLC
Irish Folktales and Fahrenheit 451 The Authorized Adaptation by Ray Bradbury

25.5 Tea Ceremony
Ghostopolis (Dragon Well Tea--all sorts of supernatural/paranormal chars) and GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Vol. 2 (TEAcher)

30.1 B&W Task
Charlotte's Web by E. B. White and Tithe by Holly Black

30.5 The Old '10/New '11
Dune (10) and Scourge (11)

30.7 Forever Young
Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean (352 pgs; SF/Fantasy) and Glimpse (496 pgs/Issue-Oriented)

30.8 Spirit of the Season
Sgt. Piggy's Lonely Hearts Club Comic: A Pearls Before Swine Treasury (rolled 2; StephAn PAstIs = ASIA) and Center of the World
(rolled 5; AndreAS SteInhöfel = ASIA)

30.9 Happy 80th Birthday!
Young Fu of the Upper Yangtze (published in the 30s) and Middle School Is Worse Than Meatloaf: A Year Told Through Stuff (beloved by a coworker, who is also a mom)

30.10 In Honor of Asian Authors
Wait for Me (born in Korea) and Rin-Ne, Volume 1 (born in Japan)

Total: 400 + 110 (from way, way earlier) = 510 pts

I've officially beaten my Fall challenge score! My goal was to get above 415 points this time around...done!

25.3 - Reflections on 2010

A. In December, my mom and I took an 11-day Caribbean cruise. It was the first vacation I'd taken in years, and I didn't do anything but sit on the beach reading! That trip was definitely the highlight of my year. I chose to read An Embarrassment of Mangoes: A Caribbean Interlude by Ann Vanderhoof. It's about the author's 2-year sailing trip in the Caribbean. She spent most of her time in Grenada - which was fitting, because that was the island I loved the most.

B. I read Suzanne Collins for the first time in 2010, so I chose to read Catching Fire.

30.2 - Alphabetically Speaking

A. I read Dog Days: Dispatches from Bedlam Farm by Jon Katz (A-Z consecutive letters JK).

Jon Katz is a Goodreads author

B. I read The Telling Pool by David Clement-Davies (Z-A consecutive letters DC)

Boys Over Flowers: Hana Yori Dango, Volume 7 by Yoko Kamio (神尾 葉子) - ★ ★ ★ - One of my favorite memories this year was taking my husband and our 4-year-old son to my favorite sushi restaurant and watching them both devour a sushi platter together. We've made it our favorite family restaurant and have gotten to know the Japanese staff. Boys Over Flowers is by a Japanese author, the plot location is Japan, and while I don't think they ever go to a sushi place, they do frequent Japanese restaurants and discuss various styles of Japanese cooking. 10.7 MY FAVORITE THINGS: The Old Ball Game: How John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, and the New York Giants Created Modern Baseball by Frank Deford. This book was reviewed in the Sports Genre (sub-genre baseball).

20.7 SHORTER IS SWEETER - MRS. SOULE'S TASK - CHRISTMAS FUZZIES... OR NOT - I like Christmas time so I chose to read a sad book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

25.1 WENDY MA'S TASK - CHESTNUT'S ROASTING - My favorite genre is mystery. Darkness, Take My Hand by Dennis Lehane and Sacred by Dennis Lehane.

25.3 CHRISTINE US'S TASK - REFLECTIONS ON 2010/

A. I went to Walt Disney World in Florida in November with my sister. I had a great time and I wish I was back in the warm weather right now. Disney after Dark by Ridley Pearson.

B. I first read a book by J.D. Robb in 2010 and now I am obsessed with the Eve Dallas books. Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb.

30.4 DONNA JO'S TASK - BY THE NUMBERS -

A. My birth year is an odd number so I read a book with an author whose last name starts with E. I Remember You by Harriet Evans.

B. When I added up the digits of my phone number i got a 3. I read You've Been Warned by James Patterson. ***JAMES PATTERSON IS A GOODREADS AUTHOR - I WOULD LIKE TO CLAIM A GOODREADS TICKET***

30.7 EMILY KATE'S TASK - FOREVER YOUNG -

A. That Summer by Sarah Dessen. (198 pages). This is a stand alone book that I would place in the coming of age category. It is considered YA because the main character Haven is 15 years old and it is coming of age because she has to deal with her parents divorce, her father getting remarried and her sister leaving the house and getting married.

B. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. (629 pages)It is part of the twilight series and I would place in the paranormal category. The main character Bella Swan is 18 years old and she has to deal with a group of vampires that are trying to kill her. ***I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO CLAIM A BIG BOOK TICKET. THIS BOOK HAD 629 PAGES. ***
