Honestly, I've always loved thrillers, and my mind just kind of gravitates in that direction. Someday I might tackle different kinds of stories, but I love it when the stakes are high and the outcome uncertain.(less)

Anyway, if you're still curious...I felt strongly that the trope in YA is that when you introduce a male and female character and team them up, they invariably end up in a romance together. And while Noa and Peter dance around that a bit, I knew from the outset that what I really wanted was for them to become lifelong friends. I wanted to make that just as valid as a romantic relationship.(less)

Killing Me by Michelle Gagnon
"Queer con-artist teams up with sex-workers and bad-ass Vegas misfits to fight serial killers in this psychological thriller…but also funny?

I liked it so much it's my May 2023 pick for the Fantastic Strangelings Book Club."

“For most people, home we represented by four walls and a roof. Not for Noa. She preferred a motherboard to a mother, a keyboard to house keys. Nothing was more comforting than the hum of a spinning hard drive.”
Michelle Gagnon, Don't Turn Around

“DON'T TELL YOUR SECRETS.
A whisper can betray you.
DON'T EVER STOP.
They will always find you.
DON'T TRUST ANYONE.
Not even yourself.”
Michelle Gagnon, Don't Turn Around

“DON'T GET TOO CLOSE.
friends can only hurt you.
DON'T SAY A WORD.
it may be your last.
DON'T SLOW DOWN.
they will catch you.”

Michelle I feel the same way. And to be honest, I've recently read a few series books that have disappointed. I give huge credit to authors who can keep a series interesting for more than four books...

message 12: by D.K.

D.K. I have to give authors credit that can stick with one series pretty much throughout their entire writing career. I think I would start to lose interest after a couple of years.

Michelle Hi DK-
Actually, as soon as I hand in the next book in the Kelly series (Monday! Argh!) I'm going back to work on a standalone set in San Francisco. I'm pretty excited to tackle it...

message 10: by D.K.

D.K. Hi Michelle, question for you. Will the Kelly Jones novels be the only series you write, or are you considering branching out to other characters and subject matters? Just curious, thanks.

Mackenzie RM Michelle,

Thanks for the add! :)

-Mackenzie.

Michelle Thanks so much for saying so, I really appreciate it! Hope you enjoy The Tunnels, too...

Five wrote: "Hey Michelle,

Looking forward to your next book! Still trying to track down a print edition of your first one. I'm hoping a trip to Powell's in a few weeks will solve it."

Michelle And I promise I only use two sticks of butter in the book, not four, so ir qualifies as low-fat ;)

D.K. I checked it out, Michelle. Sounds exciting. Now I have two things to look forward to in November, Thanksgiving and your book. LOL.
