Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I def. recommend reading a few of the earlier ones in the series...because Acheron is the end of one of her ARC's and while you could read it as a stand-alone, you may not understand a lot of why they think of him as they do (does that make sense?)

AshleyAlexis wrote: "I'll read Acheron to check it out, it wont be the first series i've read out of order."

Sheila (sheilaj) I finished Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts 1/13

Nora does Ireland so well doesn't she?

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I finished Armstrong's Dime Store Magic. Paige is not my favorite narrator, and I wasn't as invested in her story as compared to Elena and Clay. Still, Armstrong's prose flowed well so it ended up still as a well-written tale. I give it 4 stars.

Fran | 12278 comments OK, I just finished The Road - I need to start something light and fluffy right away. That was some intense experience.

message 55: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I finished Jewels of the Sun today. I loved this one and will definitely read the others in the series.

message 56: by Miss (new)

Miss | 330 comments 01/14 - finished Industrial Magic, 4 stars.

I love the 1st and 2nd book in this trilogy. Not really crazy about the final one.

message 58: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Same as Karen - just finished Jewels of the Sun - so pleased there are sequels :). 4 stars.

message 59: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I gave this list a lot of thought. I've seen Inkheart with Brendan Frasier and while it was cute, didn't know that I wanted to read it also. I recently watched The Road and while I'll probably read the book sometime in the future, I'm really not in the right frame of mind to read it at the moment. I've read (or attempted to read) almost everything else. So I think I'll skip this round too.

I'm trying out a new resolution for 2011 -- not feeling obligated to finish every challenge under the sun. LOL.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a side note, I did finish Shadow Marked by Anna J Evans from round 1 of List #4 on December 20, 2010. Between Christmas and getting sick, I never made it to a computer to post my review. I know it's too late to figure into the randomizer -- obviously -- but I thought I'd post a quick opinion for anyone interested. I gave it 3 stars. The concept was great. I wasn't thrilled with the execution. I couldn't quite connect with the characters which made the romance difficult to believe in. Some of the action was difficult to follow also. It was really the mythology that pushed this into the 3 star level. Lots of potential, hopefully the author can improve in the next book.

~Sara~ | 667 comments I just started To Kill a Mockingbird today. I've been meaning to read it for years and I own it so this gave me the push I needed.
I tried reading The Inheritance for the last round, but couldn't get into it.

I'm really looking forward to Shawn & Brenna's story. I have to ask - is the third one not a fave because Darcy is annoying as a heroine? I could see that happening so I'm curious if that's the case.

I love Shawn and Brenna's book.

Hmm....I don't want to 'color' your perception of the third book, but let's just say, Darcy is not my favorite type of heroine. : )

~Sara~ | 667 comments Oops. I finished To Kill a Mockingbird but forgot to post (Jan 24, ****). I loved it! Seeing the small town and all the characters through the eyes of a young girl was really interesting. Her youthful, somewhat naive perspective on things made me view them differently then I think I would have had it been told from a different POV.

I love that book. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. One of those books that just stays in your mind for a long, long, time. : )

I can see it being that type of book. Everyone I've talked to about it remembers it from school 20+ years ago (I seem to be one of the few that never read it in school). I had to get the movie right after I finished reading and, although I really enjoyed it, there were too many great parts from the book that I missed seeing.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Well, I need to read The Girl Who Played with Fire for a challenge that ends at the end of March, but MAYBE I can read it by March 1. We'll see!

message 70: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'm probably going to go with the Girl Who Plays With Fire or Nauti and Wild (since i've read all the rest of the Nauti books)

message 71: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I will either read Coraline or Double Play- I am on wait list for ebook of Coraline and interloan requested Double Play from library. I love both authors so either would be good with me :)

message 72: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Hmmmm....I'm undecided. Its between Nauti Nights and Mansfield Park.

message 73: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 02, 2011 01:42PM) (new)

I'm deciding between Coraline, The Master and Mansfield Park. It depends which one I'll be able to get at the library. "/

edit: I'll go with Coraline. ^^

message 74: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I had started reading The Girl Who Played with Fire before Christmas but I got distracted by my shiny new ebook reader and haven't touched a paperback since then. :o I just got a digital copy of the book, so I'll read it this month.

message 75: by Miss (new)

Miss | 330 comments Nothing really appeals from this list, I might try rereading Mansfiel Park.

message 76: by Gen (new)

Gen (gen454) | 282 comments I think I'll try Coraline, it will be my first book by Neil Gaiman.

message 77: by Kaity (new)

Kaity (bittenbooks) | 8 comments I'm going to try Double Play. The cover is too yummy to pass up.

message 78: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm going to read The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. I've never read any of his books before and I always thought The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe was first in the series. Who knew?

message 79: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Sheila wrote: "I'm going to read The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. I've never read any of his books before and I always thought The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe was first in the series. Who knew?"

The Magician's Nephew is more like a prequel to the series. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first book published, The Magician's Nephew came out 5 years later.

message 80: by Gen (new)

Gen (gen454) | 282 comments I finished Coraline and I thought it was really creepy. Especially since I have a door like the one in the book in my closet, I had nightmares about it when I was little.

It was my first book by Neil Gaiman and I really love his style, even if Coraline was a children book. I definitively recommend it. It's a short but entertaining novel.

message 81: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Thanks for the info Sara

message 82: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I think I'm going to try Double Play but I think I kind of overextended on challenges this month so I may end up with Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1) since it's so short.

message 83: by Fran, Moderator (last edited Feb 04, 2011 02:48PM) (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Coraline today and like Gen, I thought it was creepy but good. I had taken my daughter to see the movie when it was in the theaters and she was totally creeped out by it- she still mentions it sometimes when she sees the DVD in the store- "remember when you took me to that Coraline movie Mom? That was so strange and freaky! I did NOT like it. Let's never see that again." She was definitely too young for it! I think I enjoyed the Q&A at the end of the book almost as much as the book itself, a chat with Neil Gaiman about why he decided to use certain objects and ideas in the book, where they came from in his childhood and fatherhood.

message 84: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I finished The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

on 2/9. Very interesting to get an understanding of how the Chronicles of Narnia got started.

message 85: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 394 comments I'm in for Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1). I actually didn't pick it because of it's length; it just sounds interesting.

message 86: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments I'm picking Double Play:-)

It's been decades since I read these but I remember this one the best. I was fascinated with the White Queen, Jardis, and her story when I was younger. I loved the fact that she was essentially an alien.
Maybe it's time for a reread.

message 88: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I read Nauti and Wild - which featured Nauti Kisses about Rogue's brother...glad to see the sreies come to an end, and it was a short read

message 89: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I loved the CoN - they were the first "grown-up" books that I read by myself - I think I was 8 or 9...but i didn't pick up on a lot of the symbology until I re-read them in my teens and then again in my 20's...I re-read prince caspian not long ago and still picking up on stuff

I finished Coraline today, on feb. 22. I actually expected much more from the book. It didn't really impress me nor spook me. It was actually hard to read it, maybe because i'm not used of reading this type of books. But eventually I got through it to the end. I will give it 2 stars.

message 91: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 141 comments I'm in on this one. I just finished Double Play. I've had this on my TBR for a while now and needed the excuse to read it. I really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of Jill Shalvis and this book did not disappoint.

message 92: by Lili (new)

Lili | 343 comments Just read Dance With The Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon and gave it 5 big stars.
When I started the book Zarek scared me a little bit but as I got to know him and found out what happened to him when he was human I understood why he acted as he did.
He made me remember I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover... nor people.

message 93: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. Loved it! I can't believe I waited so long to read it. Lisbeth Salander kicks a$$!!!

message 94: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments @ Sandy - I was the same with TGWTDT - I have the next two books in the pile for an upcoming challenge - can't wait until I get to them - if you want to try the audiobooks - Simon Vance does the narrating and he is awesome (rates as high as Phil Gigante for me - of the highlanders by KMM)

message 95: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Finished Coraline today, 2-26-11. Enchanting and fun read. Now I have to hunt up the movie and watch it.

message 96: by Miss (new)

Miss | 330 comments Just finished Double Play(02/27}, which was good, but nothing special I guess, just a light-hearted contemporary romance, 3 stars.

message 97: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I'm not going to get to The Girl Who Played with Fire after all this month. The closest I can come for this list is I read the First book in the Discworld series The Color of Magic (2/4***). It was a good start to the series but I didn't enjoy it as much as I have some of the later ones.

message 98: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I finished Double Play today, 2/27/11. This was my first Jill Shalvis and I really enjoyed it. It was a enjoyable, lighthearted story and a perfect book for a snowy Sunday morning.

message 99: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 394 comments I just finished Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1) by Christine Feehan. Although it's a short book, it's a great start to the series. I'll definitely read the rest.
