do we post on here which one we want to read??
Sheila wrote: "I'll read The Napping House by Audrey Wood"Sheila, I was thinking of reading this too- I used to read it to my Nursery School classes and my kids when they were little- so cute!
Fran - so cute and so SHORT! I am reading a couple of 800 page books right now and could use a shortie.
I'll read From Hell; Alan Moore is one of my favourite authors and his graphic novels are always fantastic! This gets one more off my TBR.
I will probably end up reading The Napping House, but I am a little worried that we will end up with a new list based on that children's book! I really want to read The Iron King and Everything Is Illuminated and will try and fit one of those in before the deadline.
I read The Napping House today 3/15. I love Audrey Wood. My daughter's favorite book when she was about 3 was Silly Sally- she had the whole book memorized. I am on a wait list for the ebook of The Iron King so hopefully I can fit that one in before the deadline.
I read Intertwined. I had never heard of this series until this challenge. Luckily my library had it available. I really enjoyed it. Just what I need, another new series!
I finished reading The Iron King by Julie Kagawa on 03.20.11. I thought it was interesting enough to continue on with the series.
I also just finished The Iron King! It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be actually. It piqued my interest enough to put the second book on my TBR list.
I just finished reading The Napping House.finished 3/23/11. *****
I have loved this book since it came out when my son was young. I love the artwork and the general soothing story. My son always loved me to read it to him. I almost always give this book to a new mom. I collected the rest of her works after that but this one is still my favorite.
Now that I've got that book finished I can move on to another long book LOL
I finished The Iron King. I liked it. And somehow, the world building reminded me of Seanan McGuire's October Daye series. But I don't like the cliffhanger endings. Would give it 4 stars.
I finished Intertwined yesterday, 4/1/11. I'm not usually a big YA reader but I liked this one well enough. I'll probably read the second at some point.
Finished The Dead Tossed Waves early this morning, 4-4-11. Rating: 5 stars. Review: I kept debating between 4 and 5 stars and it finally came down to one simple truth: I sacrificed sleep last night because I had to finish this book, coming to work on less than 3 hours just because I couldn't put the thing down. The world Ryan has built is fascinating, she's put thought into the various ways society would rebuild and deal with the unconsecrated/mudo problem. I do have a technical problem with the number of zombies still roaming around. They're dead, they continue to decay and fall apart. The numbers initially seen are believable. I can even give the number of dead tossed up from the ocean floor by storms a pass, salt water acting as a preservitive is possible. The sticking point is the horde, how could there be an active horde so many generations later. Given the current decreased population, they couldn't all be recent dead. It's a question that occurred to me. But you know what, since it didn't occur to me until after I'd already finished the book, it didn't interfere with my reading enjoyment. I will definitely be reading the third book.
I read From Hell yesterday (4/4*****) and I loved it! I've never read anything by Alan Moore yet that I didn't like but I'm probably biased. This is a graphic novel about Jack the Ripper and wow is it ever graphic (sex, murder, disembowelments, etc.)!!! It involves Queen Victoria, her son "Eddy", the Freemasons, and numerous other historical figures. The story is so well intertwined with the actual facts and people involved in the case that it's very believable as fact rather then fiction. There is also an appendix that explains where the author got the information, quote, etc. from and what parts he just made up. I thought it was as fascinating as the rest of the book. This is something I'll have to read again soon since it's one of those stories that you miss a lot the first time you read it and don't fully appreciate the complexity until you've read it again. Also, for those who have seen the Johnny Depp movie by the same name, it's very loosely based on this book. They definitely expanded his character for the movie - but who can blame them! ;)
I finished Intertwined and I gave it ★★★★.Whooo! I finished reading it just 3 hours till april 6.
I liked this book, enough to read the next one in the series. It's a young adult book by Gena Showalter, and I like the way it was written because I could see everything clearly in my head.

Yz, interesting list this week. I loved Hex Hall and I'm on the waiting list at the library for Demonglass so I will probably read that. But I checked and my library has Interpreter of Maladies in, and I reserved The Matzah Man to read to my daughter. So really, I don't know yet- one of those three.
I forgot about Looking for Alaska- I am on the waiting list for my library's ebook for that one- it looks really good, I may read that one if it comes in first.
I'm going to read The Gunslinger. I've been meaning to re-read this series. This gives me the opportunity to start!
I haven't read an epic type fantasy in ages but Mistborn: The Final Empire looks interesting and has really good reviews so I think I'm going to give it a shot.

I think I will read either Hex Hall or Gunslinger.
The random picks are so great this time around. I'm torn between a number of them. Will come back after I've read one.
KarenF wrote: "I haven't read an epic type fantasy in ages but Mistborn: The Final Empire looks interesting and has really good reviews so I think I'm going to give it a shot."Mistborn: The Final Empire is one of my favourite novels! Watch out for the descriptions of the second book though - some of them contain major spoilers. I made the mistake of checking to see what the next book was about and it ruined the first one for me a little. I don't like to know what's coming and this was a pretty pivotal part of the plot that was revealed.
I think I'll read The Gunslinger too. I own the series but haven't found the time or motivation to start it before now.

Thanks ~Sara~! I hate it when to do that in the blurbs for later books in a series. I'll definitely stay away from book 2 until I'm finished.
I finished Looking for Alaska today, 4/20. I liked it in the end, the last 1/3 of the book had me teary most of the time. But, I just couldn't care enough about the characters to make this book memorable. It was very slow for most of it, and I didn't feet invested in the characters. I give it 3.5* for the last third. I also read The Matzah Man: A Passover Story to my daughter tonight- very cute, she really liked it. It was similar to The Napping House in that it had accumulating characters as the story unfolded.
I finished Mistborn: The Final Empire yesterday (5/1/11). All I can say is "wow" - I gave it 5 stars and I can see why Sara said it's one of her favorite novels. And I'm glad I stayed away from the descriptions of the second book because it did give a lot away!
I finished The Gunslinger (5/10***) yesterday and although I liked it, there were a few parts that were confusing. I've heard the first book is the weakest so I look forward to continuing with the series.
