Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments It's a good book. I found it pretty thick with King's views on some things but it was still well written. Not a traditional scare fest but neither is it really only about Kennedy details.

message 4202: by Tim (new)

Tim (timoerl) Reading Assassin's Apprentice, and loving it! I started reading it after I finished A Storm of Swords last week, and it's much less detailed and a bit more fast-paced than ASoS. I'm also reading The Sworn Sword when I feel like it.

Thanks, I'll be sure to post a detailed review!

message 4204: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I couldn't get into Good Omens on audio so I'll have to try it another time on my Kindle or in print. I've found that I'm picky about audio books and they don't all hold my attention. Now I'm listening to The Yiddish Policemen's Union and it's one I'm sticking with. I can't say that I've caught every detail, but I love the narrator's Jewish detective voice. It's so intriguing that even if he was reading off his grocery list I'd probably listen.

In addition I'm reading 1Q84 on my Kindle. I'm so so excited about this one and can't wait to really dive in.

Ha ha, oops! When I first posted it I was told that there was a problem saving and it didn't show up so I posted it again.

Haydensdad | 73 comments Just finished The Blue Adept and am starting the second in the Codex Alera series.

message 4208: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I did the same thing with a message yesterday Jenny. Good ol' Goodreads.

message 4209: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I'm reading Snow Crash, which is really good, but the third person narrative is kind of annoying since its not almost at all, I also got Hounded, Daughter of the Blood, then Dawn and The Accident to read before the month comes to a draw.

message 4210: by Traci (new)

Traci Started 11/22/63. Like it okay so far but haven't put much of a dent in it yet.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I've been very moody lately. So I'm currently on a romance binge.

Hopefully my temper will improve and I can start knocking down my TBR again.

That's awesome, Traci!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I started Factotum today, and this should be an engrossing read.

MrsJ, I hope your reading spirits improve.

message 4214: by Olga (new)

Olga Godim (olgagodim) | 308 comments Started Silverlock yesterday. It's an old book, published first in 1949. Fascinating but unusual. I'm going to write a review when I'm done.

The weather and dealing with Lyme's disease ... and a series of rather grim mystery and sci-fi books ... has got me in a bit of a slump lately as well.

I may end up going back to re-reads of my Georgette Heyer romances and see if that helps.

Read Venetia or The Talisman Ring. Even if it doesn't help in the long run, at least you'll have a good laugh.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Sharon, I hope you feel better!

Thanks. I think the worst of it is over, it's now just a long slog with the antibiotics.

And I think maybe I'll start this afternoon with The Grand Sophy That's got to help ... I never can read the account of her arrival with the monkey and the dog when everyone is expecting to see 'little cousin Sophy' without giggling.

carol. | 2616 comments Finished The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making and found it delightful. I think I might finish Week's Shadow series (for the sake of completion) and then go on to The Scorpio Races.

message 4221: by Jalilah (new)

Jalilah After reading a lot of fairy tales this month,I was in the mood to read something taking place in the modern world. I just started City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Thus far it is exactly the kind of book I was in the mood to read.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Jalilah, I loved City of Bones. I consider that a modern fantasy classic now.

Just bought that from a used bookstore while I was vacationing in NY. It looks good, I plan to read it after I finish some of the books I got from the library! c:

Traci Shannon wrote: "Reading Return of the Crimson Guard by Ian C. Esslemont. Really liking these companion books to Erikson's Malazan series."

I don't know how far into it you are but that book for me seemed to fit right in with the main series. As soon as I got over my confusion anyway.

message 4229: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (_shannon) | 289 comments I totally agree with you Traci, it seems to be a pretty seamless integration with the main books. It also helps that the writing style is somewhat similar.

I hope you feel better soon! ALso, a favorite of mine is Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me. Love this book!

message 4231: by Lis (new)

Lis (lazyseagull) Finished Storm Front by Jim Butcher, and am now starting Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, at long last!

message 4232: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm currently reading The Troll Hunter. It's pretty good so far. I was expecting it to be different that it is - it's a lot closer to Glen Cook's The Black Company in that it has rather limited (to no) magic and focuses more on military activity (and soldiers) than I was expecting. But so far it's pretty good. I'm enjoying it and it's self -published.

message 4233: by Lovern (new)

Lovern Kindzierski | 14 comments I'm currently reading the Waterproof Bible. I too was expecting something different, but it still has my interest.

message 4234: by Danielle The Book Huntress (last edited Feb 21, 2012 04:36PM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I finished Factotum, and I loved it. I am sad to see the series end. I want more Rossamund and Europe!

I started Element Zero, which is futuristic sci-fi with a twist on zombies.

message 4235: by Traci (new)

Traci Reading Frankenstein. Already much different than I expected. Easier than I feared. Liking the narration of Victor.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I liked Frankenstein a lot more than I thought I would. There was a lot of complexity to the story where you couldn't just take one side of things.

message 4237: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) I've got the Way of Kings in the future after I get through some sci-fi in Hyperion and some detective classics in The Big Sleep...

I still can't get through the Way of Kings. Is it worth it?

Sharon Michael | 572 comments Okay, I'm bummed. Newest in the Urban Shaman series by C. E. Murphy was supposed to be out the 2lst ... the regular book is, but the Kindle version won't be available until March lst.

No fair!

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I'm reading Blood Rites, the sixth book in the Dresden Files. I'm only about 20 pages in so far, but I love it already. It has puppies in it! :)

message 4241: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm still reading The Troll Hunter and The Hum and the Shiver. Both of them feel rather long. The Hum and the Shiver really is only about 400 pages but The Troll Hunter is 150,000 + words which is about 600 pages...

And I'm not getting through it as fast because both of them aren't my typical thing.

message 4242: by Traci (new)

Traci The Gunslinger. Liking this fantasy western mix up so far. And this is the weak one. :)

message 4243: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Fantasy reading, The Knights of the Dawn King. Good, but it's "my book" so it'll end up waiting as I read library books now and then. LOL

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I'm about half way through...but have laid it aside to read other "stuff". I like it so far.

message 4246: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I'm reading my way though some Philip K. Dick, just finished Galactic Pot-Healer, now reading The World Jones Made, and then onto The Game-Player of Titan.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I finished Element Zero, which I didn't like very much, and I will be starting Tortall and Other Lands: A Collection of Tales. Finally reading Tamora Pierce.

message 4248: by Olga (new)

Olga Godim (olgagodim) | 308 comments Con & Conjure
I read the first 3 books in the series and liked them. I don't remember reading #4, but it doesn't matter. Each one of these books stands alone, even better, I think, than when read as a series. You get tired of many series eventually. Too much sameness. That's why I break off a series, read something else for a year or so, and then return. This way, it seems fresh again. Maybe that's why there is a time lag in every series produced by major publishers. To keep things fresh?

message 4249: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) I've been making my way through the Dresden files and I absolutely love the series. I'm reading Proven Guilty right now.
