LOL! I'm definitely going to try to read Tall Dark and Cajun soon. I love all things Cajun from food to men! LOL

Good! Let me know what you thought of a Personal Matter. So, I bought The Color of Love either earlier this year or late last year (cant remember now). Anyway, I bought a used copy online from Alibris.com. So, I happened to go on there now and they have used copies selling for .99 cents. I'm sure shipping is going to be more than a dollar. LOL However, you may want to pay close attention to the condition explanation. Anyway, here's the link: The Color of Love on Alibris

I can't wait to hear what you think of Color of Love as well. I really like the hero in this especially. He was the strong tender type--loved him!

Julia (bambbles) | 20 comments Gigi

Your TBR
1. To Taste Temptation - Elizabeth Hoyt
I absolutely adored this series! All four are excellent books, but I like to start at the beginning.... lol

2. And Then He Kissed Her - Laura Lee Guhrke
This was a new time period for me when I read it (late 1800s England.. and not steampunk), nice refreshing historical heroine who takes life by the balls and lives.

3. The Duke And I - Julia Quinn
JQ is hilarious and I love her hero in this one. Very human.

4.Desperate Duchesses - Eloisa James
This six book series is awesome. Desperate housewives meets Georgian england. The later books are my favorite but it has some awesome story arcs from the beginning.

Dear lord, you are right your TBR is MASSIVE!

New to you
1 The Spymaster's Lady - Joanna Bourne
Spies, France, subterfuge, England, awesome hero, kickass heroine. What more could you want? (also epicly horrid cover)

2 Night Pleasures - Sherrilyn Kenyon
First book in the Dark Hunter series (Fantasy Love is more of a prequel IMO). Action, romance, paranormal ish... great tension, friction.

3 Ashes in the Wind - Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
I saw you had a lot of Woodiwiss on your list, but not this one, which could arguably be my favorite of hers. Civil War era New Orleans. Deception. That's all I remember. Read it about 10 years ago.

4 All Things Beautiful - Cathy Maxwell
Despite reading this six months ago, I can't remember much except that it was a unique historical romance that really made me go "Oh! wow I can't believe she just did that in a historical!" Good book.

Wow Dee, thanks so much for stumping me! Lol!! I had a very hard time choosing from your picks and I feel like with all the good ones you gave me I came up with a safe choice, Talk Me Down.

Here's my deal: I have my own personal challenge this month to only read books from my TBR in order to whittle it down a bit. (I have to say it's been difficult to get some to fit into challenges). Talk to Me fit perfectly into a challenge and I get to cross it off my TBR. Chances are however, that I'll also make sure to fit in Long Hard Ride and/or Faith & Fidelity. I know before all is said and done, all 5 of your new picks will be on my TBR!

Thanks for the awesome choices :)

message 224: by Penney (last edited Jun 30, 2010 08:51PM) (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi Barb,

After going through your shelves here's what I've come up with for you:

Since you only have 17 books on your TBR and I've only read one of them (and that was in HS), I can only recommend based on authors and word of mouth...
TBR
1. The Great Gatsby - This I read in HS but I remember it very well and enjoyed it.
2. A Season Beyond a Kiss - I have read Kathleen E. Woodiwiss before and I enjoy her work.
3. The Lost Symbol - I don't know why I haven't read this newest addition to his Robert Langdon series because I loved the other books. I'll get there some day:)
4. The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography - a friend of mine read this book and really loved it, I've just not had a chance to read it yet.

Since I haven't read many books on your TBR, I've add a few extra picks that are new to you. I may be wrong, but it seemed from your lists that you're not really into books with explicit sex. I've made some suggestions that, although romantic, are not all considered typical "romance" novels. They are, however, all on the top of my "all time favorite books" list. If I'm incorrect in these suggestions and you're looking for books more out of your comfort zone please let me know. I have a huge list I'd like to suggest to you :)

NEW
1. Memoirs of a Geisha - Beautiful love story set in a beautiful time and place. It's a great way to get lost in a whole new culture.
2. Naked in Death - Since you're a fan of Nora Roberts and of suspense novels I thought you might really enjoy her "In Death" series. I'm now on book #22.
3. Here be Dragons - Like Outlander, this book is more of an historical novel with a great love story than a romance novel. It's a fictional story based on actual historical figures. Long but good.
4. Warprize - This I would describe as Historical Fantasy and it's the first of a true trilogy. It's the story of the clash between two very different cultures and the romance that brings them together. Lots of romantic elements but nothing typical at all.
5. Shogun - I haven't thought of this book in a really long time but it's one near and dear to my heart so I'm throwing it in the mix :)
6. The Bride - Excellent Historical Romance! Strong heroine, dashing hero and great story line make for a wonderful book. Julie Garwood is one of the best authors in this genre.
7. The Unsung Hero - I just read this book and loved it. Since I've bombarded you with historical novels I thought you might enjoy this as a little change of pace.

I hope you find something you'll enjoy in this list but if you're looking for more PNR, Contemporary or something a bit sexier just let me know!

message 227: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Julia,
I may just get carried away with HR recommendations for you!
BTW, all of my recommendations are 5* ones.

From Your TBR
1. Almost Heaven - this ties with A Kingdom of Dreams as my absolute favorite Judith McNaught historicals
2. The Perils of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long begins her Pennyroyal Green series with Colin Eversea as a loveable scoundrel who'd better be able to cheat the hangman or it'll be a very short book!
3. Tessa Dare was a new-to-me author this year, but I love her books. Goddess of the Hunt starts a trilogy with a heroine who is more daring than the hero (at least to begin with)
4. Lisa Kleypas has a duo: Then Came You and Dreaming of You. I loved DOY a little more, but TCY comes first and explains Derek a lot, so when you get to him in book 2, you want the best for him!

New For You
I think these are new authors for you:
1. Mary Balogh has the delightful Huxtable family series that begins with First Comes Marriage
2. Jillian Hunter has the Boscastle family in her series, which begins with The Seduction of an English Scoundrel
3. Anne Gracie writes delightfully funny stories about four sisters, beginning with Prudence's story in The Perfect Rake
4. Karen Marie Moning wrote a wonderful series about time-traveling Highlanders, with Beyond the Highland Mist as the first of the series. This one just missed being 5* for me, but books 4-7 in the series were solid 5* reads. Some readers suggest that you skip the first 2 or 3, but I'm not one of them - you would miss very important info & events about Adam Black, for instance!

And these two are Not new authors to you, but I feel compelled to include these books:
The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase. You read Lord of Scoundrels, and this follows that book.
Saving Grace and The Prize by Julie Garwood (I'm re-reading these right now!)

message 228: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Elke, I hope you found some good books from my lists for yourself!!

I'm definitely going to read Savor the Moment and really need to get to The Bride Finder, so maybe this is the month.

From the new-to-me, I'll try to get Bet Me, since I've enjoyed 2 of the 3 J. Crusie books I've read (couldn't get into Don't Look Down). And Lori Foster is a new-to-me author, so maybe I'll get to Causing Havoc as well.

Thanks for the picks!

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Hey Angie, I think I am leaning towards a new one this time around instead of one of my TBR picks. I was able to find out that my local library has access (inter-library loan) of Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank, so I am going to go with that. The synopsis reminds me a bit of the Carpathians by Christine Feehan - will see soon.

message 237: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Nicole!

Wow! You have a ton of books on your TBR :)

From your TBR:
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs - I read this a couple of months ago. It's a PNR with a very snarky, very funny heroine.
Urban Shaman - A brilliant urban fantasy, and even though Joanne sounds a little like Mercy Thompson (from Patricia Briggs' books) she really isn't. Fast paced.
Three Days to Dead - Another urban fantasy which I read earlier this year. It drops you straight in the middle of the action and doesn't let up till the end. Great world building.
Practical Magic - Nothing like the movie, but still a good read.

Not from your TBR:
Seducing Mr. Darcy - Confession time, I haven't read any time travel romance but this is on my TBR and sounds good. You've read P&P so might enjoy this.
Angel with Attitude - A very funny PNR about an angel who is booted out of heaven...and lands butt naked in the whale tank at Sea World. :)
How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire - Another PNR, this time with a vampire who loses a fang biting something he shouldn't and the dentist he finds is blood-phobic and on the run from the mob. It's better than I make it sound.
Storm Front - Pure UF, but from the perspective of wizard PI Harry Dresden. Great fun with a decent crime/mystery storyline, though pretty different to the TV show (especially the episode based on the book, which seriously blew).

Hope these are okay. If not let me know and I'll pick something else :)

Dear John -I watched the movie and it was amazing Plus if you liked The last Song I think You'll like this one too
City Of Bones -First book from The Mortal Instruments series. It's a really great book.

New Books
Hawksong -It's about two rulers of two clans that are at war, they get married to form peace and they fall in love.
The Lady Elizabeth -It's about the early life of Queen Elizabeth I and her struggle to become queen.

Thank you from great recs Nicole!

My decision might change, but right now I think I will read Blood and Chocolate and maybe give Patricia Briggs another chance with On the Prowl.

Tatiana (tatiana_g) Chelsea

After perusing your extensive TBR list, I have come up with this list of YA recommendations for you. I hope you will find something interesting on it.

From your TBR:

1. Graceling - this is a great fantasy novel which tends to stir a lot of debate about its (possible) anti-marriage message.

2. If I Stay - a very touching novel about life and death plus a sweet love story (have some Kleenex ready for this one).

3. Shiver - this is a book a lot of fans of paranormal YA romance seem to enjoy.

4. Wintergirls - you've rated Anderson's Speak highly, so I think you will find this exploration of anorexia compelling. Not an easy read though...

New to you

1. The Hunger Games - I never stop recommending this book and am yet to meet a person who didn't like it. A fantastic distopia!

2. A Certain Slant of Light - as far as paranormal YA love stories go (and I am not a big fan of them), this is one my very favorite.

3. Before I Fall - a story about mean girls and the consequences of bullying.

4. Lips Touch: Three Times - this book seems to fall out the range of genres you prefer, but I am positive if you give this collection of 3 fairy tales a chance, you will love it.

Happy reading!

I'm such a dork, sorry! I was hurrying yesterday morning trying to get my recs posted before having to leave for the day. I've updated them now so you have 8 total. Can you cross me off the naughty list now??

From my TBR List

Lover Revealed by J.R. Ward☆☆☆☆☆ Loved it!!

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper. Loved it!! ☆☆☆☆

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Regina, sorry for the lateness of my picks. I'm currently traveling with my family and have limited internet access. I'll do my best to pick a few books that I think you will like. I may be a bit off the mark as we don't seem to have very many books in common, but I'll do my best.

First from your TBR list:
1. The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien - I loved this growing up. I haven't rea it in a few years, but still great.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling - you've read the rest of them. Why didn't you finish?
3. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman - a great YA trilogy started with this book. Read and enjoy.
4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I have not read this, but I've heard good things about it from several friends.

For new to you books, I'll cast my net a bit wider:
1. Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton - The first part of a duology. One of the best true hardcore SF that I've ever read.
2. Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - The upside? It's a well written mystery/romance set in 2058. The downside? It's the first book in a 38 book series. Still highly recommended.
3. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer - YA with fairies. Fun and light. A great afternoon read.
4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - Very funny sci-fi classic. Irreverent humor.

That's me! A mind reader! :p

They are WONDERFUL books...please let me know how you like them you're done! The Book Thief can be hard and it seems to be a love it or hated it book...I hope you are in the first group!

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments Cher, thank you so much for adding new recs. I know it can be hard picking for me what with everything I've ALREADY read & I appreciate your patience. BTW, I don't think our tastes in reading are so far off. I mean, we do have 200+ books in common & our ratings for those books are 75% similiar. *shrugs*

I've decided to go with either Deep Kiss of Winter(because I've been putting it off for months due to the split reviews) or Mr. Fix-It (because I've been trying to read more IR these days & the plot seems really good). I've requested both at the library & I'll read whichever one I can get my hands on first.

Again, thanks!

Thanks for your recs, Hina.
This is always such a hard decision!
I think I will read Mine Till Midnight and Interpreter of Maladies. I've heard really good things about Lisa Kleypas, and I have read other books by Jumpha Lahiri and liked them. Plus, my library has both of them in right now!
Happy reading!

Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas
