Finished! A bit early even, which is good since I'm moving this week.
- The first book was fine, but this sequel really picked things up, with a better story, better writing, better characters, just all around better. Only beef I had was that all the male leads seem to be in love with her for no apparent reason. Only one of the romances have thus far been explained. Would like it better if she had a more focused romantic interest.
- Excellent followup to Cast in Shadows. We learn more about the world, more about the character. Fabulously paced fantasy mystery that kept me up all night. Not much romance.
- Loved this book. Mortal/Angel romance with a sci-fi twist. Great writing, though a bit more sarcastic then the previous book. =)
I've been visiting family so for the next two days I'm going to spend my days reading and finish off the two books I have left.

MARTINA'S JANUARY LIST - 9/10 COMPLETEJust finished reading Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 7) by J. R. Ward which I give 5 stars.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is a PNR series that takes place in upstate NY. The arc of the series is an ongoing war between the vampire race that is struggling for survival and a subset of altered humans known as "lessers" who are trying to destroy the vampire race.
This seventh book in the series primarily features a secondary character in previous books, Rehvenge - brother to Bella, half-vampire, half-symphath, club-owning, local drug-lord. He's been keeping the half-symphath part of his identity a secret, but a blackmailer is threatening to expose him for what he really is. Yet, it's the worst possible time as he's just met female vampire, Ehlena, a local nurse who always sees the best in people and puts the welfare of others before her own.
As usual in the BDB series, there's a lot of interaction with main characters from previous books, so fans of the series will get a nice fix of their other favorite characters. In particular, Wrath & Beth are featured heavily as are the central characters of book 8, Xhex & John Matthew.
This series has been a consistent favorite of mine since I discovered it and I'll definitely be reading the next book as I'm a big fan of John Matthew and friends.

Done 10/10Every time I do a challenge, I'm pushed to try something outside my comfort zone. This time, it was Grimspace.
I don't read very much sci-fi, but I do watch an awful lot of it, and this book captured all the best aspects of the genre. It's gritty and dark, but there's a twisted humor that keeps everyone going.
If you're a UF fiend like me, but you enjoy your small and big screen space operas (or even if you just liked Serenity), give Grimspace a try.

I love to watch a lot of sci-fi, but my infrequent attempts to read sci-fi have been hit-or-miss. That said, I absolutely adored the first two books Aguirres's Sirantha Jax series: Grimspace and Wanderlust. She does an excellent job of marrying UF and sci-fi. The third title, Doubleblind is near the top of my TBR pile, and I'm sure after reading it I will be looking forward to the fourth book Killbox which (I believe) is due to drop in September 2010. According to her website, she is contracted for a total of six Jax novels (so far).
Finished!Heart Of The Dragon was tedious and I never felt invested in the main characters. I was interested in the other warriors in the dragon castle, but the next book in the series is about two completely new people.
How do I sign up for February's challenge? This is a neat idea and I'd love to get in on it!

You're welcome, Yz! I know some people are adding it as a book link, but that bugs me since I can't tell at a glance if it's gonna link to the book or to their review. That, and I'm too lazy to click to find out - I like just being able to cruise the feed for reviews.
Although, it makes me wonder if all the space all my updates take up bug anyone else. . . . hmmm . . .
