I totally agree with this statement. It seemed like it went on forever, and while reading I felt like I was running in place...reading and reading and not getting anywhere, I hate that! It was a 3-star read for me...forgettable, if it wasn't in a series. But darn it, I can't not try the next book, just to see if it gets better.

Just finished reading Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 7) by J. R. Ward which I give 5 stars.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is a PNR series that takes place in upstate NY. The arc of the series is an ongoing war between the vampire race that is struggling for survival and a subset of altered humans known as "lessers" who are trying to destroy the vampire race.
This seventh book in the series primarily features a secondary character in previous books, Rehvenge - brother to Bella, half-vampire, half-symphath, club-owning, local drug-lord. He's been keeping the half-symphath part of his identity a secret, but a blackmailer is threatening to expose him for what he really is. Yet, it's the worst possible time as he's just met female vampire, Ehlena, a local nurse who always sees the best in people and puts the welfare of others before her own.
As usual in the BDB series, there's a lot of interaction with main characters from previous books, so fans of the series will get a nice fix of their other favorite characters. In particular, Wrath & Beth are featured heavily as are the central characters of book 8, Xhex & John Matthew.
This series has been a consistent favorite of mine since I discovered it and I'll definitely be reading the next book as I'm a big fan of John Matthew and friends.

Every time I do a challenge, I'm pushed to try something outside my comfort zone. This time, it was Grimspace.
I don't read very much sci-fi, but I do watch an awful lot of it, and this book captured all the best aspects of the genre. It's gritty and dark, but there's a twisted humor that keeps everyone going.
If you're a UF fiend like me, but you enjoy your small and big screen space operas (or even if you just liked Serenity), give Grimspace a try.

READING NOW: Witch Blood

I have to second this impression. I love to watch a lot of sci-fi, but my infrequent attempts to read sci-fi have been hit-or-miss. That said, I absolutely adored the first two books Aguirres's Sirantha Jax series: Grimspace and Wanderlust. She does an excellent job of marrying UF and sci-fi. The third title, Doubleblind is near the top of my TBR pile, and I'm sure after reading it I will be looking forward to the fourth book Killbox which (I believe) is due to drop in September 2010. According to her website, she is contracted for a total of six Jax novels (so far).

Heart Of The Dragon was tedious and I never felt invested in the main characters. I was interested in the other warriors in the dragon castle, but the next book in the series is about two completely new people.

I love your reviews everytime you post an update. Thank you for the effort.

You're welcome, Yz! I know some people are adding it as a book link, but that bugs me since I can't tell at a glance if it's gonna link to the book or to their review. That, and I'm too lazy to click to find out - I like just being able to cruise the feed for reviews.
Although, it makes me wonder if all the space all my updates take up bug anyone else. . . . hmmm . . .

Martina--do NOT stop your posting. I Love to read your reviews too. And Yz--I think it might be time to break out the really big stick to start threatening people who DON'T post at least a tiny bit about the book they have read. At least a XXYY by ZZZ was ok--I gave it a 3 star. I admit to being somewhat inconsistant with my own posting, but that's because the books that are only so-so just don't inspire me to write anything about them. Sometimes rating them is about as much energy as I feel able to invest in them.

Finished Faith Hunter's Skinwalker. Another Urban Fantasy book with a tough heroine, who turned out to be likable as you get more into the book. She is a skinwalker, and has a "Beast" inside of her, whose thoughts are separate from hers.
