I listened to Life Expectancy on audio the first time and then read the book last year. I liked FTCOHE better the first time. We had it for the April Group Read and I have to say it's not one of my favorites but it's a good story - rather long and repetitive but interesting. Koontz did lead readers astray in the beginning about Barty and his mother.

message 352: by Maciek (new)

Maciek (pan_maciej) | 666 comments I thought that FTCOHE was a bad, bad book, but some members here like it. You might want to finish it for yourself. But I shall warn you - the premise is deceiving and has nothing to do with the actual plot.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 207 comments I like From the Corner of His Eye. This just goes to show that a lot of the differences in Koontz readers is taste. Koontz has written a wide array of books and for me they run from exceptionally good to very bad...the problem is, not all of us would agree on which are which. LOL :)

:-) Agreed - not specifically on FTCOHE but on Koontz's wide variety of cross-genre titles. I think Dean has something for everyone but ALL of Dean's work may not be for everyone.

message 355: by Kate (new)

Kate | 26 comments i think From the Corner of His Eye was meant to be more philosophical then a thriller like so many of his other books. while reading this book, though nothing was 'happening', i was able to take something from the story and actually apply it to my own life.

Tasha Love (tashabagasha) | 11 comments Hi everyone,
My name is Tasha. I am 23, and in college to be teacher here in Tucson, Arizona.
I have been a fan of Koontz for about 10 years. My favorite book is "Watchers." I have to say, it is probably because of Einstein. :)
"Odd Thomas" is a very close second. I think I am into the whole seeing ghosts thing. And, Elvis rocks.
I also liked "Strangers." I dig the introducing us to many characters that end up coming together at the end. And, if I remember correctly, "From the Corner of His Eye" was like that, too.
"Intensity" was seriously the most suspenseful book I have ever read, ever.

So...that is my Koontz rant. :) Glad to be here!

I am studying Special and Elementary Education. So, I would go with either a Special or General (Regular classroom) education classroom in an elementary school. Wherever the jobs are!

message 362: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey (thebestthereis07) My name is Kelsey, I'm a huge Dean Koontz fan. I've only read 25 of his books so far but I'm quickly adding to my list:) I have enjoyed everything I have EVER read by Mr. Koontz. I live in Ohio and although I love my friends and family more than anything, none of them are big readers. And I never have anyone to talk about Dean Koontz with! So I'm happy to join a group like this. Thank you for making a place Koontz fans can come and show appreciation. :)

Welcome Dino! You're reading my least favorite Koontz book! I'll have to re-read Your Heart Belongs To Me sometime, but I was really disappointed the first time I read it - Maybe I'll like it better when I re-read it :-) Sometimes I feel differently about a book after some time has passed and I give it another try, so I'm willing to give Your Heart Belongs To Me another chance. I hope you enjoy the book, but if not, we'll all be happy to recommend our favorites :-)

Same way with Stephen books. Thanks for your comments. Give me a list when you have time...will check it out.

Yolanda | 3 comments Hi I'm Yolanda. I'm a fan of Dean Koontz's novels; I love Phantoms, Watchers and many more but too many to list here. I must confess I've fallen behind on my reading lately so will put on my "TBR" list the Odd Thomas and Frankenstein series and I'm sure a few more I've missed along the way.

Hi Yolanda, I am also behind on my reading these days (funny how the spring can do this - my to do list is still very long). I really enjoyed the first two books of Frankenstein.

Hi Shawnee,
Thanks! That picture was taken at Limekiln State Park in the Big Sur area. Unfortunately it is closed now due to the Chalk Fire in 2008. I hope someday it reopens because it was my favorite place to camp!

message 380: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 7 comments Hey there, I've just joined Good Reads last week and I'm very excited that I found this group.

In brief-about me: When I was a kid I hated reading. I would just as soon eat ground glass than sit and read a book(oh the horror). That was until someone gave me my first Dean Koontz book: The Voice of the Night. Oh I ate up every word until there was nothing left, and then found my self wanting more. And since then I've been addicted to reading.

I’m a faithful Koonz fan, read all his books. I do have my favorites (From the Corner of his Eye, Cold Fire, and many others) but I’m not afraid to say that I’ve been disappointed with some of his work (especially with the third installment of the Frankenstein series). But with that being said: Dean Koontz will always be my #1 author.

I hope to see you all around Good Read soon. Take Care!

Christine Hey Jenna! Welcome to Koontzland! This is a great group. I also belong to the Stephen White group that Dustin Crazy also moderates. If you like mystery/thriller, his are pretty good. The Siege was the first one I read and now I'm hooked. I've started at the beginning of his Alan Gregory series and slowly working my way thru them.

Tell me about Ted Dekker. He keeps popping up on my radar and I've never read anything by him. What is your favorite? Does he write a series?

Tedd Dekker is a pretty good writer in most aspects. He insert religon to his book, which I am not religous and sometimes it has a bit of a corn factor. but ill try and elaborate. My favorites by him are Adam...this one has an adam, eve type like thriller but not really religous...it has life after death, near death experience, one of the most awesome villians etc a must read. Three is also good, this has some religon in it but not in a corny way..i.e. dont want the movie its not great....it involves mpd, and a man being hounded for a sing he doesnt remember. House was ok by him, but was religous in the end and spoiled the whole book because it ended extremely corny, if you can read the first 3/4 and disreguard the ending it is good. He writes thrillers well, just sometimes especially when cowriting has that lil bit of cornyness in there. :) and yes he has a series but i havent read it yet.

THanks for the welcome btw. I also reccommend John Saul, hes alot like Koontz. If you do go with these first...The God Prject and Shadows.

Last but not least..just read an amazing book by Jilianne Hoffman, idk know if its released yet, as mentioned im a book critic and get them b4 release, but its called Pretty LIttle Things. One of the best villians ive read for a while. This psycho kidnaps young teenage girls, murders them, hurts them, and rips out their eyes. He then send paintings to detectives giving clues to other murders etc. Very good, super climactic and it has a major twist that is jsut wonderful.

message 393: by Christine (new)

Christine Thanks for letting me know about Ted Dekker. I might try Adam. I can skip the religious stuff.

I will add John Saul to my list. I think I have read some of his in the past. I will have to check back in my book journals.

If you liked Pretty Little Things, it sounds similar to a book I read not too long ago called The Kult by Shaun Jeffrey. The story surrounds a cop named Prosper Snow. He is an intriguing character who is racked by guilt but is loyal to his friends, family and career. The guilt and the loyalty put him in the middle of a gruesome string of murders that threaten all he holds dear. The violence in this novel is extremely graphic but I guarantee you will be hooked by the middle of the book.

So who are you a book critic for?

The only really semi religous one is the ending of House. Three isnt really about religon. But yes definitely check out Adam, it is one of my favorite books. And John Saul is good, actually was reccommended by a woman in a Koontz group on FB. I will have to check out The Kult. Pretty LIttle Things is great , as an artist too, the villian was very interesting. I relaly like crime novels too. I will def check it out if it is that gripping.

I am a book critic for a literary blog, run by a woman named Vera, www.luxuryreading.com. :) We review new releases, for publishers and authors etc. We normally dont do major authors because they are reluctant about pre-released copies, but we do, do however alot of best sellers. I just did Pretty LIttle THings like I said, a book called Dark Road to Darjeeling, and am doing one called Petra right now.
