Hi All! I am Sally and reading is a big part of my life. I currently live in Southern California. I love talking with friends about books and I am looking forward to sharing here. I have already enjoyed the comments here...food for thought. I began reading Koontz late in life and have read a number of books. I reat WATCHERS early and loved as I love dogs and have/ had one at that time who gained the nickname, Furface. I have read the Odd books, just read THE FACE.I love WATCHERS because I could see so much of Einstein's wisdom in my dog Bear. Perhaps the book had a different take for dog lovers. I am eager to hear other's tho ughts on this book.
Thanks!

Welcome Sally! Please feel free to share your thoughts & opinions in any of the discussion topics or group polls.
I think 50 group members is a great number, but we'll still welcome more awesome people!

I saw mention of discussions related to dogs and searched for them, unsuccessfully. I would love to read them, if someone can help me find them.Thank you!

See threads under Koontzland 'non-fiction books', also 'Trixie's Books'.
Welcome.
Welcome Sally. By the way, what did you think of The Face? I am interested to hear what you thought of the book.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to reading and discussing some great books- I'm glad we're starting with my favorite Koontz. Kudos to everyone who suggested Watchers this month! :)

Hi Matt;
I liked The Face. I liked it enough that it warrents a second read. To start with, and after reading I liked the multiple meanings of the title.........the face.
One thing I enjoy about Koontz is his references to the spiritual....very loosley used. He enters this realm in this book. Sometimes I think of morality plays. I think he makes his opinions known and I am not sure he passes judgement. This is indeed a discussion of good and evil, not unusual for him.
I like the characters, esp Fric and I enjoyed the description of the house. He does this well and I feel as if I could find my way around if I landed there. I think I would enjoy being there. I like Mrs. McBean also. Her attention to detail in running the household is great. With her, I feel I can touch her character. She means business!
Something is missing though, for me. There is a level of depth he does not reach. Perhaps I will understand this more upon my second reading.
Just one humble reader's cursory thoughts.
I would enjoy other's response to this book.
Best regards, Sally
Many of you already know me from the other DK group, but, for those of you who do not, here I am: I am living in Salt Lake City, Utah, going to graduate school at the University of Utah. I was born in central Ohio and have lived there my whole life, until now (I moved here in August 2008). I just started reading Koontz in late July 2008 and have probably read around 25 of his books thus far. My favorite is From the Corner of His Eye. I prefer Koontz's more scifi-inspired books, but have not yet read one that I flat out did not like. He is too good a writer for that to happen, it seems. I also really enjoyed his more true horror books: Winter Moon, Phantoms, and (until the end) The Taking.
Dustin wrote: "56 - We've got another Matt now - so that R. is gonna come in handy here :-)"Yes, it was just a matter of time which is why I keep the "Arrr" in there. Welcome Matt.

Thanks for posting your comments on The Face. I was wondering because that was one book I just could not get into. I did like the detailed descriptions of the house, it was done quite well but the story dragged on for me. Luckily the ending picked up and closed nicely.

After thinking on this today I see a great similarity between the houses in The Face and Your Heart Belongs to Me. This gives me pause for thought and a desire to look at other books I enjoyed even more.
Hi I am Bree... I am slightly obsessed with reading... Dean Koontz is by far my favorite author and I am trying to read all of his books... Odd Thomas is my favorite so far :)

Interesting point, Sally. Perhaps Koontz writes about a home he knows or has visited.
Sally, I was not a 'dog lover' when I first read Watchers, however I do now have a dog. I just loved the concept of Einstein and when the story was over wished that he were 'real' so I could meet him personally...and the humans too of course. I still haven't been able to find my library card, so will have to get another one ($5 worth of replacement) and hope I can catch up as I have a little over a half-month to do it. Maybe if I read all weekend...It will be interesting to see if I think of my Staffordshire Bull, Buster, when I read about the Yellow Lab Einstein.

Dean Koontz described his own home vividly in A Big Life and I thought it was very similar to Parish Lantern's house in By The Light of The Moon

Carol, one significant reason I enjoy Koontz is his love and knowledge of dogs, specifically Goldens. My Bear was such a part of my life for 17 years and I smile when I read Koontz dog story. He understands their magic and their ability to love thoroughly. I hope you and your doggie have a lovely day.

Apparently, Koontz writes about houses. Interesting. He does describe them well, making them seem so real. I will look into A Big Life.
Thanks.

Yeah I was pretty sad :-( but we're moving on! I didn't even know who it was that left. If it was Helen, I don't think we really got to know her & she probably didn't really get to know the group. Anyway, glad everyone else is staying to have fun :-)

There has been a lot of activity on this group today :-) Martin Luther King Jr. Day - No School. Government offices closed.
Dustin wrote: "Doing good. I'm currently re-reading The Good Guy if anyone wants to join in the discussion :-) "I just started The Good Guy. I do think it is a re-read.
I live in SoCal and always enjoy Koontz's descriptions of areas I know, including beach communities. Again he is mentioning architecture, California bungalows, which I love.

Sally, did you find the discussion thread for The Good Guy? and did you find the dog discussions also? Hopefully this group is easy to navigate - if you click on the "Koontzland - Dean Koontz" link at the top of each discussion it'll take you to the group homepage or you can click discussions on the top right of this page also.

Hey Dustin!!! I am here now! My name is Jinnifer for all those who don't know me...I love all kinds of genre of books but I have loved Koontz since i was young.
I am starting to get a little worried though that our wonderful Mr Koontz is going to start straying from his original style of writing and starting throwing religious ideas and theories into all of his books.
