Yes Dustin I just got done with Breathless...I actually made a comment on the original Koontz group under Breathless...are we not using that group anymore? I was extremely disappointed!!!! I hate it that i didn't like a Koontz book! There where so many good tie ins and so many options for a good ending and then he just left it open the way he did????
I just dont get it!! Then he totally brings in all the scientific stuff and religious stuff and IMO actually tries to inforce his beliefs upon the reader...
I really hope that this will not become a trend in his books now :(

I left the old Dean Koontz group :-) you can still copy and paste your comment into the Breathless discussion here (in the group reads folder). I agree with you on Breathless, although I did give it one star more than you did :-)

Yes, I've been wondering where you and Hanzle have been :-) I know everyone has a life outside of Koontzland so just think of this as your home away from home - you can come visit and stay a while whenever you'd like :-)

I like Koontz's sci-fi type books much better than his his Born Agains.
Random Koontz-related facts about me:
- My favorite Koontz book, which I doubt will ever change, is Intensity.
- The Taking has the honor of being the only book that I ever had to set aside because it creeped me out. Not even The Exorcist can claim that.

Welcome to Koontzland, Becky! I am very glad you decided to join.

Becky!!! Jason, how in the hell did you convince Becky to join this group! This is amazing! :-) Thanks for joining Becky!

Apparently flattery really does get you everywhere. ;-)

Although, I'm not sure how that's going to work though, because I'm neurotic and have to read a full series once I start... =\

Becky, chances are the next book chosen will be the 2nd in the ODD series.

I wouldn't count on it. I thought for sure we would plow through the Frankenstein series once Prodigal Son was chosen, but we didn't, so I just went ahead and read them on my own. It's a good thing we don't send assassins after members who read Koontz books that are not selected as the monthly group read. ;-)

Jason, when I joined Goodreads and became interested in the 'group read' concept, I expected that we would have some kind of structure after the book was selected, but there doesn't seem to be any, or much anyway. In the SeniorNet book club reads they break the book down into sections which are assigned in intervals, which everyone is supposed to be done reading in order to then go online to discuss that section of the book. That way the discussions are very intimate, pointed, and no-one has to worry about 'spoilers' as they are all on the same page, so to speak. Sometimes, the authors were online, too, to add to the discussion.
Yes, I'm glad about the absence of 'assasins' too...I just found a hardbound copy of Watchers that I had forgotten I bought at a yard sale, so now that Watchers is over, I can start reading it. LOL I'll still have to go to the library to check out Odd Thomas, but I'm pretty sure the main branch of the Long Beach Library will have at least one copy. I'm looking forward to the reading, I have had very good feelings about what I've read here in the discussions about the book. I like going into a reading with an optomistic view.

That is an intriguing suggestion, Carol, thanks for sharing. I will have to bring it up with the other moderators.

Yes, I am the same way, though I don't know that I would call myself neurotic because of that. :-)

Thank you, Jason, although it wasn't really a suggestion, more like an observation...I'm learning to adjust to this new world called GoodReads...I think it must be a lot like a social network, there are so many 'groups', 'threads', 'blogs', it boggles the mind. I just had the thought that GoodReads must be like a little virtual village, in that one would find it hard to keep up with everything going on, so one finds a little niche (glad I found Koontzland, thank you Dustin!) to settle into and be able to venture out from there. Actually I started in the '50 books a year' group, which is quite large now, so it's nice to belong to a group that isn't quite so large...easier to keep track of...maybe that's like the difference between cities and rural areas. I've always considered myself a 'big city gal' coming from Chicago and still calling it my 'home'. I've been in California so long now, though, that it's actually become my home. I still love to go back to the 'country' though, where my mom grew up, a rural area. Both have their ups and downs.
Excuse the blathering, please, I must be in a chatty mood...there's not much going on here at work today.
And welcome to Becky, too.

Completionist then? ;)

I would have been dead a long time ago :-) I really am going to read Watchers in February. Yesterday, I went to pick up my audiobook of Watchers from the library and it came in on cassette, which would be okay if I still had a cassette player!!! So, I've re-requested Watchers on CD and am waiting again :-)

I'm glad you found Koontzland too :-) Goodreads is my favorite social network because I find peoples that think and read like me! You are right on with finding your niche, the village & rural area comparison :-) I am also on Facebook but I'm more active on goodreads. I'd welcome any Koontzland group members as FB Friends (just write Koontzland in the comment/message so I don't think you're a stranger :-) www.facebook.com/dustpancrazy

Great, I've been thinking of trying out 'Facebook', I've heard so much about it, both pro and con. I always think it's not to late to teach an old dog new tricks...first you have to interest the dog.

The thing about Facebook - it's easy to get out of control with all the applications your friends want you to add but in the end, remember you are in control and you don't have to add every application, join every cause or group or become a fan of everything that you are invited to. I've been on Facebook for about 1 1/2 - 2 years, in the beginning I was adding everything and it just got to be too much stuff and clutter. I now refuse to add any kind of little green patch, farm, sea garden, etc etc etc I don't have time to take care of some imaginary creatures and crap like that :-) Still, Facebook is a great way to reconnect with old friends and stay connected to Family etc.

It's interesting to hear you talk about garden patches and sea gardens...there was a video about Dr. Phil confronting a mother about neglecting her children to do the farming thing and it showed how the patches would appear and you would have to cultivate and 'grow' them...LOL...just like you just described. It's probably good that I don't have a computer at home, and also don't have any kids at home young enough to need care...just a dog and cat. I would probably watch YouTube and Farm Frenzy all day...LOL (I've probably seen every episode from the four years that Kung Fu The Legend Continues was on television). So now I waste...I mean spend...my time on reading (mostly) mysteries...cozies, food-related, action-adventure related, horror-related...but through GoodReads I've become interested in expanding my taste to, say, non-fiction, such as political, do-it-yourself, biographies, and the classics I did not read in High School (because I wasn't forced to). I have a very eclectic taste in everything it seems, typical Aquarian on the cusp of Pices.
It seems, all in all, that finding this group has somehow become the cornerstone lately of my literary efforts. I don't know why. It's not that I think of DK as 'special' (although he must be in some way to me) or a 'literary genius'...there are others who probably ARE literary geniuses. I appreciate his novels (at least the ones I have read so far, which are only about 5 or 6 out of at least 30 or 40 I'm guessing) for their uplifting content. Someone previously said that his 'good guys are really good and his bad guys are really bad.' I have always felt better for having read one of his books. So I guess one reason I'm here is to encourage myself to take the time to get back into reading him, especially when I think I don't have the time. And I've also decided to keep my membership in the '50 Books A Year' group...but not to add any more...at least for now.
Done talking now...so how are Y'ALL doing?
BTW, I was able to find ODD THOMAS and the other three sequels at the library near my house (they had them in a different area than where I looked before) so I can (maybe) actually finish it by the end of February (like I'm supposed to)(and not get a rap on the knuckles) and be able to discuss it intelligently in the other thread.

I never joined myspace - from my understanding Facebook gives users more control over who sees their profile. I do have a twitter account but I post something about every 2 months - that's just not my kind of thing. I joined twitter mostly to follow the disabilty rights group that my wife is involved in - they have national "Actions" twice a year, which last about 5 days each and post their activities on twitter. http://www.adapt.org
Honestly though, I find more like-minded people on Goodreads and I like that our comments don't disappear - they remain in a discussion for years while if you make a comment on Facebook it's usually not easily viewable by people after a few days.

Luckily, they are very quick reads. I'm the same way; not only with series', I carry it so far as to read all I can find of an author when I find a 'new' favorite.

Then what makes you neurotic? jk

I'm from the City too, mostly the NW Side. I moved to Florida in the 1970s; still miss aspects of Chicago. Ironically, I have falen in love with small towns (totally rural would even suit my fancy better).

It is a complicated process that I figure out by luck occasionally. :-/

Awww, that's so sweet of you. I have so many Koontz books, but have only read a few. I'm seriously slacking! :(

I recently picked up Dragon Tears, Winter Moon and The House of Thunder, so we can start with those if you want. :)

I'm game for any of those, Becky. Just say the word!

WELCOME BACK JINNIFER! :-)
I've been noticing that too! I'm currently re-reading Brother Odd (almost finished) and the repeated mention of "Eden" is starting to annoy me. I'm guessing you read Breathless recently :-)
