Well I can say Stella Rimington's Dead Line was quite the let down, the blurb sounded good but just didn't translate to a good story. Started & finished Annie Oldham's The Infraction last night, that was excellent, now starting Stephanie Louise Smith's I'm Not Shaving My Lets For This which thus far is funny & enjoyable.
I've started re-reading the little house books. Just finished In The Big Woods. On to Farmer Boy.
I started Evelina today. I was a little concerned after the first few pages, but I'm 100 pages in and it's really funny. It's actually a page-turner.
I also started one of my ordinary books today - I had gone to the library kind of craving a certain kind of ordinary fiction, where plot and characters are prominent and the language isn't trying too hard - How it All Began by Penelope Lively. Ugh, it's just fucking awful. Present tense, how did I not notice that. Also really super British and twee. Mission aborted.

At page 105 I realized Ms. George had used the word "comprised" a minimum of three times. Stop it! Stop it this instant!
Phil wrote: "Now 124 (nook) pages in, and finally a dead body."I hate when you end up reading page after page and feel like there's nothing happening. I finished Corruption of Blood by R Tanabaum earlier today and after 100 pages a guy had basically attended a job interview and argued with his wife about whether or not to take the job.
Thankfully John Godey's The Taking of Pelham 123 which I'm on to now is a bit more enthralling.
Read and finished Head Over Heels - Sara Downing. Now I am going back to Name and Number - John Hoskison.
Finished Name and Number - John Hoskison. Now I'm gonna carry on reading Bad Blood: A Vampire Thriller - J.R. Rain.

It depends on the genre whether or not things need to happen in order to make the book good. If you're reading a mystery things should definitely happen. If you're reading straight up serious literature interesting events don't always matter, as long as everything is written beautifully. Some of my favourite authors are very good at describing nothing.
I just started this "series" that I found on Gutenberg.org :-)Astounding Stories of Super-Science: February 1930
Reading Servant of the Empire as part of my Riftwar Sequence reread in preparation for the last book releasing later this year.
janine wrote: "It depends on the genre whether or not things need to happen in order to make the book good. If you're reading a mystery things should definitely happen."It was a mystery/political "thriller". Have seen more exciting paint dry than the beginning of that book.
Just finished Robin Cook's 'Vector' it was great, now onto Dale Brown's 'Night of the Hawk'.

There's a lot of awesome early scifi on there. Am a big fan of the Henry Beam Piper 50s ones myself.
Has just finished Bad Blood: A Vampire Thriller - J.R. Rain Was a great book by 3 different authors who I have never read before. Will definitely keep an eye out for the next in the series if they do any more. Now I am going to read Devil's Waltz - Jonathan Kellerman which I need to read to get the series read to catch up with the publishers lol.
I just started to read
The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements~~Sam Kean

-----------
I just finished a book like that. It was long on style, short on plot.
Rules of Civility~Amor Towles

I just finished Evelina and I have to say I kind of loved it. I was not expecting it to be so funny.

I am reading it with a Good Reads group. The last time I thought about the periodic table was in junior high about 100 years ago. I am just hoping I'll understand the book!

This one's been on my TBR for a while.
Re: disappearing spoon...it proved to be a little more and less than what I expected. Read it for a book club. The author could have had a better editor.
Starting All the Little Live Things. The first few pages were good but now suddenly there appears a hippie. AARRRGGHHH.

I have a hardcover edition. You would think a book on the periodic table would have a nice color periodic table with the names of the elements on it. Instead it has a drab black and white one with only the symbols. :(
Still, it's a interesting book.
Just finished Tom Clancy's Without Remorse was a really great read. Am pondering whether to tackle another Clancy book or maybe some Forsyth or Henry David Thoreau's Walden.
I've finished Devil's Waltz - Jonathan Kellerman. Was an ok read. Got a bit boring at the start and near the end was like where it got interesting. Now I think I am gonna read Bloodstone - The Guardian's Curse - J. Michael Radcliffe.
Finally finished my long slog through Elizabeth George's A Suitable Vengeance and am relaxing with a bit of George Carlin's Brain Droppings.Unfortunately for me as a mystery lover, the George book was more of a poorly written romance than an actual whodunnit.
Catching up on some things while waiting for my co-readers. Finished The Naked Sun and started Nightfall.
Has finished Bloodstone - The Guardian's Curse - J. Michael Radcliffe Was a good story. Liked the characters and the way it moved along. Loved the 3 small short stories as well. Now I am going to read Falling - Cecilia Gray.
Cynthia wrote: "Something is completely messed up. My first Goodreads notice of the day!"Cynthia, the system was down sweetie for over 5hrs :(
I've finished Falling - Cecilia Gray. I loved the characters that are like gods. How 1 person fell in love with an immortal (that she never knew), finding out her sister is a witch. Loved the Paranormal Romance style of it as well. I am listening to Great Expectations - Charles Dickens (my audio for the month) and reading Men at Work: Quick Read - Mike Gayle (A Quick Read) that hubby didn't fancy reading.
I started História, História: Two Years in the Cape Verde Islands by Eleanor Stanford in e-book form last evening.
I've finished listening to Great Expectations - Charles Dickens (my audio for the month) and read Men at Work: Quick Read - Mike Gayle which I didn't like.
Just finished reading "the widow of the south" about Carrie McGavock and the cometary of dead resulting from Battle of Franklin, TN. Over five hours on Nov. 30, 1864, battle saw the death of over 9,200 men. More than Pearl Harbor or through 19 hours of D-Day. Carrie saw fit to donate their land for a private cemetery to give rest to he fallen soldiers .
