Aliyah wrote: "Amelia--Back to the point of Poisonwood Bible, I dunno if you will like it or not, because the priest in the book is portrayed as the "evil man", and is a crazy zealot. I just didn't like that the author didn't provide much reason as to why he was the way he was...I think his characterization may be offensive. I read somewhere under "Fodder for the corner joint" thread that you are a Christian Republican. I just thought that I should point that out to you. (not sure how religious you are)

Well, I'm not easily offended, for one. And, I'm not Catholic, so no tie to any priests. And, I also accept that there are fanatical Christians in this world, and I am NOT one of those. I'm a friendly, every day, bring you some food when you're sick, teach 1st & 2nd grade bible class on a Sunday morning kind of Christian. I'm not going to picket funerals calling people names and tell you you're headed straight to hell blah blah blah. Those people make me nuts!

If there really is a hell with actual fire and whatever, I'd say those people are going to regret their behavior...
I'm not sure I believe that is literal...personally.

Oh, I really enjoy Fahrenheit 451.
heh, this review of Poisonwood Bible sums things up, without any spoilers.http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

That's funny. Paul is a "friend of a friend", she loved the book though. I'm sure I'll read it at some point.

Just finished Hilary Mantel's "Bring Up the Bodies." I think it's one of the very best things I have ever read. I enjoyed it MUCH more the "Wolf Hall."
Best EVER? Wow!

That is right up my Tudor loving alley! Added to the "to get" list. :)
It took me a month to finish it. I wanted to savor every word. Hilary Mantel writes like a dream. She is a fucking history-loving goddess. Her pen leaks roses and rainbows. Amazing.
Ha, roses...Tudors...NICE one!
I have finished ReEmergent - A.M. Hargrove a couple of days ago and now I am reading Should've Known Better - Cassandra Carr.
I have just read and reviewed Just Add Spice - Carol E. Wyer. I loved the characters and the book. Now I am off to read and review Tatterdemon - Steve Vernon for the author.
Amelia wrote: "Aliyah, how's it going?"Amelia-quite good, I like that its simple to read and doesn't feel like an extended Sociology essay. That's what 1984 felt like towards the end. I also find it interesting that the author added the concept that firemen start fires instead of ending them. So far, I'm only on page 48
I just finished The Cuckoo's Calling. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who is a fan of JK Rowling because it's just great. It's a big step up from her first post-Potter novel, The Casual Vacancy. Also, if you're into crime novels/detective novels, I recommend it. It's slowly starting at first, but in true Rowling fashion, she keeps you hooked, and her ending is suspenseful. Honestly, I wasn't expecting the ending, which made it even better. As for my next read? I'm just going to reread a Potter novel for now. (I'm on my way to help move my baby cousin into college all the way in Oklahoma. I need to pass time on the car ride.)
After Potter? Who knows what I'll end up sticking my nose in. (;
Aliyah, so what did you think???
Still rereading Pern series books. I'm on my 6th. I love this series so. Though, I noticed a LOT of typos in Chronicles that I didn't remember...

I'm reading
Washington: The Indispensable Man~James Thomas FlexnerI've read about 70 pages and so far I think it is very good.
I'm listening to:
The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America~Thurston ClarkeInteresting spotlight on the 82 day campaign of RFK. The author is clearly a RFK fan.
The reader of the book is also very good. That's critical to me with an audio book.
I just started reading A White Room and I am really enjoying it so far. Much simpler flow than I had expected.
I'm reading The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy. I've never read anything by her before, but this won't be my last. This is a wonderful book; I hate to put it down and go to sleep.
Finished Entwined with You - Sylvia Day whilst on holiday and am now reading Release Me - J. Kenner :D

It was good, but the ending and part 3 was rushed and bizarre. Mildred was too inhuman for someone with a cognitive impairment imo (assuming that she has bipolar and/or schizophrenia). Maybe she was a sociopath? But other than that it was a well-written novel. With a good underlying moral. The Night Circus sucked
I've finished Release Me - J. Kenner. Is kinda like Fifty Shades and Bare To You style book, so intense are the characters that I throughly enjoyed it. Now I can't decide whether to read next installment or carry on reading something I started lol.
A Game of Thrones it's a good book, too bad i've watched the show, it's no longer a surprised anymore..gonna finish it up nonetheless !!
I am loving Through a Glass Darkly. I would never, ever be able to start a 1000 page book this time of year if wasn't for maternity leave. Love.
I have finished Claim Me - J. Kenner which I thought the characters are so intense now with the way Damien and Nikki are learning about each other. It's still in the style of 50 Shades. Now I am going to read Complete Me - J. Kenner and I am listening to .The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend on my phone.

Ha! A guy who used to be around on here talked me into reading King Lear. I did enjoy it in the end, but EVERYONE dies. Literally I think there were only three main characters left at the end...maybe two.
I actually love the comedies though, Taming, Much Ado, The Tempest...I'm on the fence with Midsummer Night's.
