Looking forward to getting stuck into Jedi Survivor over the weekend despite its massive install size

I'm very tempted by Jedi Survivor. I really enjoyed the first game and this looks a decent step up in terms of polish (fast travel points, better maps, more varied environments, more weapons, more everything that was half-arsed done in the first game such as collectables). I find it hard to part with £60 for a game nowadays when I know it will drop in price and will be on EA play in 12 months for free. So tempted though.

I finally completed Kena Bridge of Spirits. Actually a really good game. Great graphics and artwork. Varied world. Lots of combat options that work intuitively. Lots of well implemented environmental puzzle solving especially in the latter half of the game. And loads of really excellently done boss fights and I don’t normally like boss fights but these were well done. Clearly a lot of love and care was put into this game. It’s defo an 8.5 or even a 9/10 on the r-score-o-meter. Have to give it 2 or 3 hours to really let it shine and the more you play the better the game becomes. Only quibble is the cutesy aspect but that’s more a taste thing. The story isn't the greatest but I'll give it a pass as otherwise the game is very polished for a AA game.
No idea what I’m playing next.

I can't believe Jedi Survivor is only 720p on Series X/PS5 in performance mode. By all accounts it still looks good but 720p.
I see Redfall has been receiving some pretty mediocre reviews. It's put me off, however I watched some game play videos last night - of gamers playing after launch not the promotional videos - and to me it looks pretty good. Looks like a very atmospheric game. I'm still going to wait for the 60fps patch though before I try, and after a few patches to sort out the reported issues.

I’ve gone and pulled the trigger on Jedi Survivor. £57 after buying reduced price vouchers on cdkeys and a £5 voucher earned with PlayStation stars rewards. Only game that’s got me excited for a while.

Hi everyone!
Hope you´re all doing great.
Im 82 hrs into AC Odyssey and its killing me.
The game itself is fine. Visually is stunning. But i feel like it doenst respect my time.
I had to endure 3 major itches for other games so far so that i dont quit playing ACO but the game goes on and on and on.
Everytime i feel like the story its finally gaining momentum the game forces me to do the same missions i´ve already done zillions of times and it gets lost.
The worse part is that i still have a huge chunk of the map unexplored and i have missions left to do for another 20 hrs or more.
I dont mind a huge game but it has to feel natural and this time its not working for me.
The only positive is that, by the time i finish it, maybe Dead Island 2 is already under some sale.
Now that´s a game im really looking forward to play.

Hi all. Started Jedi Survivor. Played about 4 hours. In terms of enjoyment I’m loving it. Great atmospheric world with lots of detail in terms of vistas and vehicles flying around in the opening level making it feel like Star Wars. Game play is good with the combat, platforming, wall running and exploration. I just can’t believe they’ve opted to force ray tracing, rather than having it as an option, at the expense and I mean real expense of resolution and frame rate. In performance mode it’s 40-50fps fluctuating constantly making it very stuttery. I have to turn on VRR to cope with the stutter but it doesn’t completely fix it. And the resolution is very soft and apparently is sub 720p which is like going back two generations of console. There is a lot of detail in the world in terms of artwork and objects but it’s all blurry. So I love the game but it’s a real mixed bag graphically.

Im so angry because of this.
At this point i have to consider these games are launched so broken on purpose.
Like, they launch and there´s a huge wave of purchases on day one which makes them a lot of money.
Then when they fix the game in a couple of months, there´s a second wave of purchases at full price which brings them a lot of money again.
I honestly cant think of any other reason at this point.

Yea it’s annoying that they think 720p in performance mode is acceptable. Even in resolution mode it looks very soft. It’s a strange game because it kinda looks nice but you’re seeing it through smudged spectacles.

And I look at it a different way to Glass. Gaming is a business, these guys are given deadlines they can't ignore and at least these days, they have the opportunity to make adjustments, to not only correct mistakes but improve the game in general.
And I've said many a time, I've never once played a day one game that I've found to be in unacceptable condition (well maybe Andromeda but that was due to the content rather than technical issues). Most of the time it's blown completely out of proportion, yet people still find the need to throw the toys out of the pram. Not that anyone here would though ;)

I agree Deckard it's nailed the vibe for sure. I've got no complaints about the world in terms of actual impressive environments but it's just at the expense of smooth game play and crisp resolution. Jedi Fallen Order on PS4 had a higher resolution. I honestly think it's because they've turned up the graphical bells and whistles for ray tracing which kills performance and resolution on consoles - same happens in other games - but with Survivor there is no option to turn RT off. I'm enjoying the game a lot other than my complaints. I am tempted to pause my play through a month or so to see if patches improve the performance. I can't see them adding a none RT mode now and increasing resolution - seems a step too far in terms of expectations post launch.

Well, it depends on what you think its acceptable in a produtc you´re buying, right?
I always use this analogy: If you´re going to watch a movie at the cinema you can accept a bad actor. It sucks but it is what it is and you just didnt like the final product.
But if the same movie has bad frame rate, many errors in the spoken lines left in the final cut, errors in the color scheme etc then how would you feel as a customer?
I dont mind bad games but i do mind broken games, even if they are funcional. Games are way to expensive in order to allow developers and publishers to release them in any condition other then near perfect.
I also dont have problems with bugs for years cause i dont buy games at launch anymore.
Its like paying more for the lesser version.
But that doenst excuse the fact that, those wh buy them, expect and deserve a game that runs perfectly and only the subjective side of the game is on the line for them.

I do think theres a huge diference in many cases.
For example a game like Days Gone. When i played it a couple of years after launch i thought it was an amazing game and as baffled when i found out how bad the user reviews were at launch. Then i found out the game was a buggy mess on day 1 but when i played it i think i had 1 or 2 bugs the entire playthrough.
I understand deadlines and all that but its basically the only industry where this is allowed.
Imagine buying a CD and the music is all muffled on day 1 and you have to wait a couple of months until there´s a patch with a cleaner mix...

I forgot to mention HDR is completely broken for Jedi Survivor on PS5. When I first started the game is was basically a near black screen - couldn't see anything. I had to google for a fix which was to ramp up all HDR settings on PS5 to max and then in game set all HDR settings to near lowest. Basically nonsensical settings - but at least I can see it now.

DeckardCain's Sandals wrote: "Probably just my TV, but I've never liked HDR. Games look crisper without, and it's too much of a hassle to adjust. I prefer the old fake white, rather than this creamy real white nonsense ;)"
You´re not alone mate.
HDR can look really impressive if done right but most of the times its just way darker then usual for my taste.
I got used to it but sometimes when i play a non HDR game i remember how vivid and bright everything was before.

Oh I love HDR. I changed my TV because of it (well, partially the reason) as my previous TV didn't do it well. It makes images even more crisp as it highlights details which you wouldn't otherwise see with a lower dynamic range.

Well, probably if i stop using it i will miss it. lol.
I need a new tv. :P

Some TVs have a low peak brightness in HDR which means they appear too dim. One of the reason why I changed my TV due to a previous low peak brightness HDR. Saying that still looked better in HDR compared to SDR.

I probbly need a new TV then.
Also with 120 and VRR (which i dont know exactly what it does but its not suported by my tv).

120hz is twice higher frame rate than 60hz. Makes games run ultra smooth and very responsive. It’s noticeably smoother for games that support it. This gen however 120hz does come at the expense of lower resolution so visuals usually appear softer in 120hz. Usually 120hz is best for multiplayer.
VRR is variable refresh rate. When games don’t have a consistent frame rate and fluctuate for example in a range of 40fps to 60fps then the game suffers from stutter and screen tearing as the TV is fixed at 60fps. VRR allows the TV to match the fluctuating frame rate of the game removing screen tear and reducing stutter.

Probably Jedi Survivor next, probably
Ratchet and Clank A Rift Apart and Humanity coming to PS Plus extra in May. The backlog is growing.

Morning all
FInished AC Odyssey.
I wrapped up the main story and couldnt be bothered with the other 2 main sidestories about The Cult and Atlantis.
After 82 hrs of doing the same 2 or 3 missions i was completely drained and called it quits.
The game had its moments of being good but overall it didnt had the "juice" to justify beeing so big apart from the beautifull world, imo.
It was a struggle to finish the main story and i had ignored the many side quests that were all over the map.
I give it a 7/10.
Started Atomic Heart and im intrigued. It has that "Bioshock" feel to it but at the same time its very weird and im not sure if its for the good or bad.
The main character is putting me off a bit as he keeps joking around and being sarcastic all the time. A bit too much for my taste.
Visually its stunning. Im playing on the X and its smooth as butter so far.

I finished Atomic Heart a few weeks ago. Yea defo Bioshock vibe but not as good but not bad at the same time. The constant talking will become annoying trust me ;-). I liked the game but the open above ground maps are lacking something - just not that much of interest, I found, and tedious when spotted by enemy. The underground parts are much better. I didn't like the moments where they throw what seems like hundreds of enemies at you (probably less than hundreds but I found it OTT at times). Worth playing for sure, a solid fun game, but nothing special IMO.
Over the weekend I played some more Jedi Survivor. Really enjoying it a lot. Cracking game. Got to the moon which I really enjoyed and back on Jedha now. If only it wasn't let down by the poor performance - it really chugs at times, one of the worst game for performance I've known especially on next gen.

Thanks mate.
I already have a feeling this will not be a memorable game but im hoping it will be at least interesting.
I´ve read in multiple places that playing on easy is recomended but im doing it on normal so that, if i find myself in a tough spot, i can always change to easy.
I also hawed Dead Island 2 yesterday.
Its been ages since i bought a game at full price.
The last one was TLOU 2 i think.
Thanks mate.

Yea I played it on easy. It does have some difficulty spikes especially in some boss fights. On occassion I didn't know what the game wanted me to do next. I'd have a map marker and then I'd get there and little idea of what I should do - I eventually worked it out but it could have been a bit more clear.

i finshed the main story of Jedi last night absouley loved it. Im tempted to go for the play but the platforming force tear challenges do my head in

I did think to begin with that there's far too much busy tasks to maintain yourself/your horse/your camp, and chat to folks and there's health/stamina/dead eye meters AND cores which determine how fast the meters recharge and TOO MUCH! And the game started in waist-deep snow and was really slow but...
It's all clicked, the little chores are quick to complete and fairly soon everything has become intuitive. Have just started chapter 3 at the camp near Rhodes and it's like the best RPG ever, just without a skilltree. It's a proper outlaw sim game and really really good. So well put together.
Still prefer John over Arthur though, and tbh probably RDR1 overall as I prefer the more desert setting rather than mostly grasslands.
