DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm going to pick up Wo Long on Friday, played the demo the other day, and it seemed very Nioh-like. Think having something I can get my teeth into to accompany some VR will go down nicely

I'm thinking of starting something shorter to play along side Outriders.

I played a bit more Outriders last night and it's definitely starting to click more. One thing that confused me though is that I'm unlocking more skills as I level up but I can't seem to reassign what is assigned to L1, R1 and L1+R2. I hover over the newly unlocked skill and it says press X to assign but nothing happens.

Hi mates

I truly need the group´s advise on this issue.

Im enjoying AC Odyssey quite a bit but i have so many games im looking forward to play that i really dont feel like playing the same game for 2 or 3 months...which im sure it will be the time Odyssey will take me to finish.
So...i remember someone mentioning buying the XP boost MT and, althought i never bought a MT before, im a bit tempted to do it for this isolated situation.
Not to cheat the game but to allow me to enjoy the game in lesser time.

What say ye?

message 2404: by [deleted user] (new)

I generally don't have a problems with MT'S if the game is not aggressively balanced to make them a necessity.

I say go for it if they are reasonably priced and give you what you want.

Thanks mate.
I also dont want to unbalance the game by making it way to easy. The game is already easy as it gets. :/

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've nothing against MTs but I'd say nay to that one Glass. Unless you are going to fundamentally change the way you play, double xp or whatever it is, may not have as big an effect as you'd hope. Unless you are going to cut out the exploring completely and simply head from A to B, you'll probably not notice a big difference. And, for me at least, Odyssey is one you should be taking you time over, if there are other games you'd rather be playing at the minute, it's probably better to take a break and come back to it imo

Thats a good point Deck.
Im not changing my gameplay per say. I´ll keep exploring and geting lost in the world and avoiding the main quest until it gets ridiculous.
I just keep reading that the game takes a deep dive into grinding later on and that keeps me worried.
I dont know...maybe i´ll skip the MT as it would probably get me overpowered very early on.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Can only speak for myself but there was zero grind in Odyssey when I played. If you keep exploring you really shouldn't have a problem

I´ll do that.
Thanks mate.

I´ll use the money to haw a game i just discovered and im really intrigued called Metamorphosis.
Its a 1ºperson adventure/puzzle game based on the Kafka´s book by the same name.
I read it many years ago but its one that i realy loved so playing a game that follows the story should be really good.
I watched a couple of reviews that gave it good scores which is also great.
Sadly i cant find it on PS5 but its available on Xbox.

I did something similar on AC Black Flag. I got to the final mission or close to, after really enjoying the game, but needed to upgrade my ship to be levelled up enough to start a mission. I spend £1 something on MTs for resources to level up my ship just to get it done rather than grind. I don’t like the grinding in AC games as they seem to steer you to MTs if you want to main line the story. I’m ok with MTs in free to play games or for cosmetics but AC definitely is designed to encourage MTs to level up more quickly.

Btw, i think im going to haw a second PS5.
Im definitly going to get in trouble with my mrs...

I remember having some trouble with this. If I recall correctly - you can't swap out skills that are assigned. However, you can assign whatever skill you want to blank slots...so you have remove assigned skills first to move them around.

Error | 408 comments Alright video game persons...I'm about to start the suicide mission for Mass Effect 2. This is the end of the line so I'm just about done. After struggling to find anything I was interested in playing for the past several months I'm hoping for a few suggestions. I've played just about every mainstream franchise so:

What are a few of your obscure or unpopular favorites?

I´d say:

Chernobylite ( 1º person action/rpg)
Greedfall (rpg)
Narcosis (1º person adventure. Short but not bad)
Call of Chtulhu (1 person horror adventure)
Elex (rpg)
We Happy Few (1º person Adventure/rpg lite. The game itself is weird but it kinda works)

On games pass:
Somerville. By no means perfect but I like the atmosphere of the game and game play albeit not perfect is on the whole enjoyable.
High On Life: The humour will be hit or miss but the game play is decent and fun without being best in class or ground breaking.
A Plague Tale Requiem: For me one of the best games of last year.
Deathloop - enjoyable FPS, great world, sometimes confusing but it makes sense after a while.
Some smaller games I enjoyed - Omno, The Gunk, Recompile, Unpacking.
If you haven't played then worth a go: Back 4 Blood, Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Both easily playable solo or with randoms on lower dificulties.
PS5: Stray. Everything else I've played on PS5 recently has been AAA.

Second PS5. Why would you need two PS5s? Don't forget most likely the slim will be out later this year too.

Error | 408 comments Speaking of PS5, one just showed up at my house. I have to bribe a teenager to borrow it for a while and it has zero games, but hey...I missed the entire PS4 & PS5 library. I'll wait till the kid gets bored with the new toy though. He bought it cheap from his aunt who somehow bought two of them by accident!

Narcosis and Unpacking both sound interesting. A straight forward adventure and a relaxing sim both would be a nice change of pace. Thank you for suggestions!

I'm with your missus on this one Glass ;-). Move your PS5 into your mancave and save a chunk of cash. Or does your basement become haunted at night? In that case get a second PS5.

I'm with R on this. Save yourself several hundred Euros and just walk up/down stairs ;)

If I bought a second PS5 my wife would take a cheese grater to my balls!

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm going to need a break from Gran Turismo 7. I've done all the hour long endurance races in VR and got to the point the other day that I looked down at my VR legs and thought "I don't remember putting trousers that colour on this morning" ....

message 2424: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha defo time for a break Deck.

My initial impressions of Outriders were a bit premature in hindsight. The prologue was a bit poor but I'm very much getting into the game now. I'm getting to grips with the various game mechanics and systems but still have a few things to learn.

It's nice to play an old style 3rd person shooter for a change. When I somewhat foolishly said it looked like a PS360 game the other day, I meant more that it feels like a game I may have played that gen. Reminds me a bit of Gears of War in some ways which is a good thing.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've done 34 out of the 50 sport mode races in GT7 needed for a trophy, but they really could do with rotating the tracks a bit more. You are stuck doing the same 3 races over and over all week, and to make things worse, this week, one of the tracks was just a variation of one of the others. Still, it's the last multiplayer trophy I've left, so would like to get it out of the way while I'm in the mood. I think if it wasn't for VR, I'd have given up already

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Another thing that's a bit daft about the sport mode in GT7 is the time penalties. They want the mode to be about sportsmanship and proper driving etiquette....one car forces another off the road, the aggressor gets a 0.5 second penalty and an insurmountable lead, the victim gets left in the dust, plus a 1.5 second penalty for hitting a barrier lol.

They do reward clean racers with a 50% money bonus....but of course the prize money is pitiful to begin with, so not really worth it. Plus you'd earn more driving like an ass.

And one last thing I've noticed - in the pre-race lobby there are preset phrases you can use to communicate, one of those is let's have a clean race...funnily enough, it seems the ones that tend to use that one are the first who would have their licenses revoked.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Knocked out the last of the mp races in GT7 and overall did better than I'd expected. Don't think I'd have enjoyed it as much if it wasn't for VR though. I've just the 2 trophies left but not going to grind out the daft amount of money needed for the legendary cars, mostly because I know the other trophy will likely prove impossible for me (gold in all licences). I've managed to get mostly silver and a couple of gold in the super licence but the times needed for the rest looks well beyond me. I'll maybe take a bit of time at the weekend and give it a serious attempt but not expecting much.

Played a little Wo Long and it definitely seems tougher than Nioh. Good and like what ive seen, but not sure if I can hack much frustration at the minute. I'm think about getting stuck into Octopath Traveller 2, never played the first but quite like what I've played of 2 so far.

Morning all. I didn't game much at the weekend but I did manage 3-4 hours on Atomic Heart. Actually pretty decent. The initial 30 mins I wasn't that impressed. Very restricted environments and graphics a little unimpressive (more in resolution than anything else) but once I got to the first underground area everything ramped up. Very good artwork - not a rip-off of bioshock but they've definitely gone for the same kinda vibe - but really atmospheric. Game play again similar to bioshock with powers and weapons. The combat was pretty straightforward - nothing too tricky so far. A lot of puzzles though, some mini-games to unlock doors but also some environmental puzzles. A good flow of combat, quiet moments and puzzles. Some sections dragged where the game play slowed down too much and then other sections where the limited ammo was depleted quickly as enemies were constantly coming for me - they went down easy but just lots of them. I crafted around 80 shotgun shells and must have used most of them in one game play section. I've just done the first underground level and back up to the surface in the open world area - and left it there so not really experienced the open world part yet. All in all though I'm enjoying it, and looking forward to cracking on some more when I get chance.

message 2429: by [deleted user] (new)

My gaming time over the weekend was taken up with more Outriders. I've got to thank Deck and Error for helping persuade me to stick with it as I've really got into it now.

I'm level 20 and looking at how many hidden trophies are left, I must be somewhere between half way and two thirds of the way through the main story. I've also hit level 10/20 in terms of accolades.

It is quite repetitive but I'm enjoying the game play loop that that isn't an issue. I think it'd be even better in coop so may try matchmaking tonight.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I remember before Outriders was released, a lot were put off by the demo (me being one), which rather daftly of them, was the beginning of the game. They should have at least got to a point where you've a few skills to play about with but no, in their wisdom they gave us the dull bit at the start. It'll not win any awards, but once it gets going, it's definitely not the worst out there

message 2431: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a bit like the Spec Ops: The Line. They took the most generic, on rails 3rd person shooter section and put that in the demo. There was none of what the game was actually about.

They'd have been better off with no demo at all.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Played a good bit more of Wo Long and I'm enjoying it. Definitely a bit harder than Nioh, but not finding it as tough as say Sekiro so far.

Also tried to get gold in a few more of the super licence races in GT7. Stuck the ghost of my best time on to see where I could improve...but of course the ghost isn't anywhere near transparent enough, so just gets in the way. Think I'll be knocking the attempt on the head sooner rather than later though. It's a little disheartening when you've felt you've driven to your maximum, only to be told you are still well short of what they want.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've gone from thinking impossible to maybe in GT7. Just the one gold needed for the license trophy and have went from struggling to get bronze in it, to just needing to find half a second. I can take the corners pretty well individually, so reckon if I can get lucky and string them all together, I could scrape the time needed for Laguna Seca. If I can do that, it'll just be a matter of grinding out the cash and waiting for the right legendary cars to appear. That's if the final license doesn't drive me round the bend though...

message 2434: by [deleted user] (new)

Good luck Deck. A GT plat would be a great achievement.

I'm still enjoying Outriders. One trophy is causing a little bit of concern though. Can't remember the name of it but it's for killing an enemy whilst it's the effect of 4 different status effects (burn, freeze etc).

I feel like I should have got this already and it's got a 46% unlock rate on PSN so not hard. I've still alot of the game left to get it but wondering why its not popping is starting to effect my enjoyment of it a little. Will keep at it though.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Had a wee look at my Outriders trophies and it looks like the 4 status effect one popped mid-late game for me, if that helps

Don't know what it is about the way I play, but often the last trophies I'll need, are the ones that look like everyone else got well before

That one will pop within ten minutes of starting up a co-op session.

Outriders doesn't make a great first impression, but it's really a ton of fun when you are powered up. I'm not sure how far you have made it, but I know I wasn't sold until I first made it into the heart of the forest.

I've wanted to buy the World Slayer expansion for Outriders but I've never seen it drop below 30 bucks. It's really just a higher level cap and additional powers so I can't justify the price.

message 2437: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Finished up Mass Effect 2...not quite as enjoyable as my memories of it. Half the game is loyalty missions and I don't enjoy that many of the characters. I might have enjoyed it more if I wasn't on Insanity difficulty, but I'm trying to play the whole trilogy on that difficulty. Two down, one to go.

Started up Wo Long since it is the shiny new GamePass addition. It's a really solid game. I wouldn't call it a soulslike since it isn't open world, has a scripted story (for better or worse), and you have companions with you constantly. It has the weapon/armor customization and leveling and crafting you would expect though. More pure action style game play, as you might expect from Team Ninja. More difficult that Elden Ring, less difficult than Sekiro. The store page is an equal mix of 5 star reviews and 1 star reviews saying they didn't make it past the first boss.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not surprised at the first boss thing in Wo Long. He's can be a little nuts until you figure out a strategy. They maybe could have done with making him a touch easier, especially when the next few bosses are easier in comparison

message 2439: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Leveling is important. First guy only took me a few tries. I spent an hour on the giant warlock boss, which is apparently the easiest boss in the game.

message 2440: by [deleted user] (new)

Cheers lads, I've got it now. I was finishing off a lot of enemies with Thermal Bomb which takes a few seconds by which time some of the other status must have worn off as they only last a few seconds. Very relieved to see it finally unlock which is an odd thing to say about a bronze trophy unlocked by nearly half of all players.

I'm really far into it now Error. Level 23 almost, accolade level 12 and really far right across the map at the ancient ruins. I must be 3/4 of the way through the historian, hunter etc missions around roughly around the same for the main story I think. I think the game clicked quite early on around the second or third main areas. A bit of a turn around from my initial thoughts I know. I really started it the wrong evening which my own fault.

Mass Effect 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. I did them all on insanity difficulty on the PS3 and wish I'd done the same on the PS4 versions. They felt too easy breezing through on normal so I upped the difficulty to hardened and still felt it was a bit too easy. I suppose I get to replay them on insanity though to get the few trophies left on that little extra trophy list you get with the Legendary Edition.

I really liked the loyalty missions and most of the characters, especially Mordin, Garrus and Thane. I can't remember if Legion is in 2 or 3 (or both) but he was great too. Shepherd, Commander. Oh and Tali of course, my romantic partner in 2 and 3, the little masked minx.

Legion is very much in 2 & 3 :) loyalty mission and everything :)

The only character I don't really like is Zaeed so I don't do his loyalty mission in the hopes he'll die during the suicide mission, or I leave him to die during his loyalty mission. Either way I make sure he's not in ME3!

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Managed to get the last gold for the super licence pretty quickly in GT7, surprisingly. And after selling a load of the cars I'll never use, the grind for the 3 legendary cars won't be anywhere near as bad. When they turn up that is, from what I can tell it could be a few days or it could be weeks. Not too bothered by that though, pretty happy knowing the hard parts done. Will likely concentrate on Wo Long a bit more while I wait

Yes got snow here. I usually get the train to Manchester and back on a Thursday to meet with people in person in the office but today decided not to take the risk of becoming stuck on the train somewhere seeing as the route is through the peak district. I work from home 4-days a week anyway so no real impact on me. Very heavy snow here at the moment and settling. The cat is mesmerised.

Zaeed is no fun. Samara might be more tolerable if she wasn't dressed like a stripper hunting down her own daughter to kill her for being promiscuous. If I play 2 again I'll try to remember that I just want to use Grunt, Tali, and Legion the whole time.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments If the Internet is to be believed, I reckon I've now enough cash for the last 2 legendary cars in GT7, just have to wait for the to appear. Nostrodeckard predicts one will appear tomorrow, the last will appear 4 or 5 days later. Either that or under a full moon when the willows weap tears of blood....

So will be getting stuck into Wo Long properly, with maybe a bit of Resi Village in VR over the weekend

message 2449: by [deleted user] (new)

A bit annoying you have to wait but that will be a ping worth waiting for.

More Outriders for me last night and a few more trophies ticked off, inc one that looked potentially annoying (kill 5 elites using only skills).

I've mopped up all side missions that have appeared so far so will crack on with the main story tonight.

Also downloaded Wreckfest which was one of the first PS5 PS+ games. Going to boost the 1 online trophy with a mate this weekend and then chip away at that as my secondary game aside of Outriders.
