Racing games are the only games that should have speed trophies.

Titanfall 2 will most likely remain unplatted because of THAT trophy and I'm put off playing the PS4 versions of UC1-3 as they decided to include speed trophies. I don't know why they do it.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Stuck a few hours into TWD Saints and Sinners and mixed feelings now I've been able to get into it properly. Generally good, but can feel like a bit of a chore. Probably gets better once you've upgraded your camp a bit but early on, between the low weapon durability, respawning enemies and few to no weapons to pick up in the levels, it's not as fun as it could have been. Not one I'll be able to play in long sessions, I think, might just stick it on every now and then for a bit of zombie bashing

message 2503: by [deleted user] (new)

A bit more Wreckfest for me last night. I'm onto the last championship now and cleared the challenges trophy despite still having one left to do. Will Tale that though.

The road to the platinum looks fairly clear but getting to level 50 might be a grind.

Hi all. I’ve been having a break from work this week but did manage to complete Atomic Heart. A real mixed bag of a game with bioshock type combat, a really pointless and frustrating open world, the game shines in the below ground more linear levels but then suffers from being too OTT with enemies coming at you relentlessly. And the story is ok, nothing special but told in such a way it just goes on and on and on with voiceovers, and the dialogue is childish at times - if I hear ‘crispy critters’ again I could lose it. Difficult to score on the r-score-o-meter but it would vary a lot, but probably somewhere around a 7/10.

Not sure what to play next but I do have PS Plus Extra now after it went on sale. I’m thinking either Horizon Forbidden West or Ghost Wire Tokyo. If you guys have any thoughts on these, either way, good or bad, that would be great. I did play the first Horizon game and for me it was a good game but nowt special and in the latter half of the game I found it monotonous but I do like nice shiny graphics 😀.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I wasn't a big fan of the first Horizon. but did enjoy Forbidden West more, even if it is more of the same.

Ghostwire Tokyo is decent enough, bit more style than substance though.

Both decent enough plays, maybe not anything to write home about but solid efforts

message 2506: by [deleted user] (new)

I've not played either of those yet R but Horizon Forbidden West would be my choice of the two.

I wasn't overly fond of Zero Dawn either but looking forward to playing FW using the extra grunt of the PS5.

I saw they'd added the PS5 version bundle of UC4 and Lost Legacy too (Legacy of Thieves). Weirdly both games share a trophy list with only 1 plat between them.

Thanks Deckard. Yea I think I’ll probably go Forbidden West. I read some reviews on Ghostwire which hasn’t excited me. Plus I really want to see Horizon graphics on PS5. I’m also slightly drawn to Death Stranding but I’m really not sure on the game play but I do love Kojima’s craziness.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'll probably be having one of those I've no idea what I'm in the mood for weekends. At the minute it's looking like mostly back to messing about in Elden Ring again with a bit of TWD S&S.

Played around a bit in Dark Souls and Dragons Dogma yesterday, but don't think either of them is going to stick at the minute. And still waiting for that last legendary car in GT7, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Might reinstall Grid once it finally pops ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And I've cracked and picked up Resi 4. Was planning on waiting for the free VR content but since nothing else is really appealing at the minute, I'll bite

message 2510: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I've said it many times, but the Bitterblack Isle expansion to Dragon's Dogma far exceeds the actual campaign (which I also love).

I have a friend who raved about the Diablo IV beta all last weekend and now I'm tempted to pre-order so I can play it this weekend. Buying a full price game is kind of against my video game morals but I don't know...I'm torn.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I thought the paid beta was last week for Diablo 4 and this week was free? Or was that just PS

message 2512: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Hmmm...I'll trust you Deck. Is it invite only? I'd like to try and get in if it is possible.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments No invite, just a plain old open beta as far as I know.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Definitely free, no invite on PS from 24th-26th March

message 2515: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Nice! Still might be hard to get in due to overloaded servers but I will try. Thanks. I saw that there was another beta period and just figured it was for the pre-order people.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah it kinda takes away any incentive for preordering early having an open beta so close to the closed.I don't see the point in preordering early at the best of times (i tend to wait till the last minute ) and think I'd be a little annoyed if I had here

I'll be picking it up day one and was planning to avoid the beta to go into it with a clean slate, but I'm curious now, so it's queued to download

message 2517: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I never do but I kept getting texts telling me how awesome it was. If it's free, why not?

Hi all. I’ve managed to put a good few hours into Horizon Forbidden West, around half way through the campaign. Actually really quite enjoying it. The world looks really good and I’m actually enjoying the combat. However the game is by no means perfect IMO. The cut scenes are so frequent and long they’re starting to grate. I’m constantly getting stuck on the terrain in the middle of combat which is annoying and the platforming mostly is fine and then some jumps just end up in failure even though it seemed straightforward beforehand. Anyway minor niggles and on the whole so far glad I gave the game a go.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Played a bit of the Diablo 4 beta and not too much to complain about. Don't like the way they overwrite the basic melee attack like in 3, it makes having a variety of weapon types pretty pointless. Apart from that, looks to be a step up from 3 at least. Don't think it'll reach the heights of 2 for me personally, but looking forward to it.

Resi 4, I'm not really feeling it at the minute. No worse than the 2 or 3 remakes, but the early areas at least feel a bit dated in terms of the level design. Gameplay wise it's fine but other games do a better job of giving the illusion the area you are in is just a small part of a larger world. I'm sure once it gets going it'll be fine though.

And finally Ping! Gran Turismo 7 double plat. They really dragged that last car out but pretty happy it's in the bag now.

Glassmoon - The Benny Hill of Plats | 779 comments Mod
Hi all

I almost cracked and hawed Resi 4 yesterday.
But im so unused to spend full price on a game that i managed to resist.
Not sure it will last though...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've rather deftly reinstalled Grid. Knocked out another couple of hundred miles before coming to the same conclusion I did last time - I've way too far still to go to make the plat attempt worthwhile. If I'd done the smart thing and transferred the PS4 save to PS5, I'd be in the finishing stretch. But as I didn't, I'm only just over 1/3 of the way. The PS is suggesting it's taken 135 hours to get that far, so really don't fancy another 270 driving in circles

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Managed to knock out a pretty respectable 700 miles in Grid yesterday, if I keep that pace up I'll....well I'll be in a straight jacket in a few days, with full Hannibal Lechter treatment by the end of the week. I half think I should stick with it because I'm likely to keep repeating this cycle in another few months

Morning all

I think i will be trying Atomic Heart for a break from AC Odyssey.
AC Odyssey is pretty good but i feel like i´ve been doing the same things for 36 hrs now and i still so much left to explore that im starting to think i need a second game to alernate a bit.

...or i could haw Resi 4.

message 2524: by Error (last edited Mar 28, 2023 06:48AM) (new)

Error | 408 comments Finished up Wo Long. Glad I played it. 8.5/10

I played a bunch of the Diablo IV beta. Maxed out a necromancer and then tried a rogue for a while. Essentially, it's Diablo aspiring to be the best version of itself. Giant map, great graphics, everything feels organic. The story missions were surprisingly well acted and impactful. I'm wondering how much I'll enjoy the endgame, but playing through the campaign should be a treat.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I gave all the characters a bit of a go in the Diablo beta (only went as far as the town with one and levelled up the others a few times to get a feel for them). Felt like a bit of a mix between D3 and D2 gameplay wise (felt it leant a bit too much towards 3 for my liking but not bad) and a bit more D2 in general tone. The story definitely seemed like a good step in the right direction.

Wo long gets a thumbs up from me as well. Initially wasn't sure about the pretty major gameplay changes from the 2 Nioh games but by the end would have happily played more. Considering how crap I am at parrying in other games, deflecting blows was mostly satisfying and enjoyable

message 2526: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Deckard - one thing you didn't experience if you didn't complete the beta are "real" boss fights. There were a few that required actual skill and pattern recognition. Feels much more satisfying than cheesing Duriel for 15th time. There are also special event "world bosses" now that up to 12 characters fight at once. That I'm not so sure about, but I'll withhold judgement until I actually get to experience one.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Sounds good. I was wary of doing too much since I was always going to pick it up day one. Overall, I was pretty content with the taste I had

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ah Grid. Around the globe doesn't sound that bad....until you attempt to drive it. Managed to knock out a pretty impressive (and slightly ridiculous) combined total of around 2500 miles over the past 2 days. On one hand, it almost gives me encouragement that I could get the final trophy relatively quickly. On the other, there's no way I'll be able to keep that pace up. Another day or two at the most, and it will likely be back in the maybe one day pile.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not sure I know how to chip away lol . It tends to be all or nothing for me. At the minute I'm likely to try and get as much mileage done as i can. And if I can see decent progress, I'll continue

I did learn an invaluable lesson that is sure to benefit me greatly in future....I seem to be marginally better at left hand turns than I am right ;)

Mates

My 10 year old kid tried to indocrinate me this morning on Roblox.
All of his friends play and all that jazz.

Does anyone know if its a cool game for him?
Im very strict on what games i let him play so im not sure. He can play games like Fifa, Minecraft (offline), Pokemon etc.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I think I read that it takes around 99 races of a 99 lap race on the Indianapolis oval to complete the distance. Each race takes about an hour and I've already covered over 1/3 if the distance, so less than 66 hours to go, easy.....;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not heard much about Roblox Glass, though if I had to guess it sounds like it might be related to R's hairdo in the 80's...no wait that that's Robs locks. Mark my words it's only a matter of time before some developer creates it and inevitably becomes a critically acclaimed masterpiece

Mullet guys, come on.

I've not heard much about Roblox but I know JackFrags recently played a COD clone in Roblox which was impressive. So I think it's a platform where people can create their own games - some quite sophisticated like what you'd see in a AAA game but anyone can be a creator. So in that case anything goes in terms of game type. Whether it's suitable for children I've no idea.

message 2535: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Glass - you have to watch out for the online interactions with Roblox. I would encourage you to seek out some articles. I guess some of the games can expose kids to inappropriate content. It's probably all perfectly fine if you say no games you don't approve of and no interactions with anyone you don' know from school.

Thanks guys

I´ll investigate a bit more and install it on the xbox.
This way is easier to see what he´s playing.

Cant be worse then the scare he got one day when i was playing Alien Isolation and he was peeking.. haha.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I reckon even Super Mario Bros should have had a higher age rating back on the 8 bit NES. Mario spends level after level crushing enemies, skulls beneath his boots and setting turtles on fire, and all for what? For the majority of the game, an illusory princess. Mario knew quite well this but proceeded to invade the worlds all for the coin and endless supplies of mushrooms. He was definitely panicking when he found there actually was a princess on world 8-4. Later he became obsessed with her, stalking her from game to game while she attempted to seek refuge with various groups. Mario's PR agency ridiculously keeps insisting she's being kidnapped repeatedly, but come on, what sane person believes that?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I think I'm on to something here (or possibly have too much time on my hands while mindlessly driving in circles). "Plumber from Brooklyn"....possible codename for an assassin hired by the US to eliminate informants, i.e., "a professional specialising in plugging leaks". The information gathered during the job led him to the discovery of wormholes hidden in certain green pipes and you all know the rest

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I'm about to hit my limit in Grid again. Got good mileage over the past 3 days but not sure I'll be able to do much more. Current plan is to take a complete break from it the rest of the week and see if I can manage another 2 or 3 days of concentrated effort week

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Don't think the online trophies were much bother in WRC 10 as far as i remember. It was the anniversary mode times that were a nightmare until they were patched. Don't remember any of the other trophies causing a hold up. I seem to remember though that the PS5 version didn't seem quite as crisp as 9. Not terrible though (like the eyesore that was the PS4 version of 9) and more of the same driving wise

TLoU pt1 went down to £42 for the physical edition at a few places (including Amazon) in Black Friday, but has gone back up and is staying up everywhere again now.

Frustrating when newer games like Callisto Protocol can already be had for £35ish quite easily.

I've decided I'm just going to get TLoU remastered the next time it dips under £10 in a sale, rather than pt1, unless pt1 is in a sale for £35 or less before then - which I doubt will happen!

message 2542: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I'm back to the drawing board game wise. May have to go back and finish up the Mass Effect trilogy. Winter has decided not to end where I am from; calf-high snow and more on the way. More daily snow predicted every day through next Tuesday. Happy Spring everyone!

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not sure what I'm in the mood for either. I'm leaning towards either replaying Stranger of Paradise or picking up the DLC for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and get stuck back into that. May end up grinding out some miles in Grid simply because I can decide.

The online WRC10 trophies aren't as bad as they sound. I generally try and avoid online trophies but these weren't much of a hassle as far as I remember. Even the co-driver ones, just pick a short, simple course and say nothing. Takes a few minutes and minimum effort

Morning all

Thank God its friday!

So, anyone´s getting Dead Island 2?
Cant believe its finally coming.

I truly hope the game its actually good as im in the minority who still prefers Dead Island over Dying Light.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I preferred Dead Island as well, mostly. When it was just zombies it was great, wasn't fussed with the humans later on

Dead Island was a perfect mixture of fun (when in the vacations area) and horror (slums).
And not having the night and day cycle was great as it let us play at our own pace.
I hope DI2 retains the same formula.

oiwa randomly decided to look at the switch wishlist because im in a rut, and decided to purchase a (on sale) 3 dollar game called "route me mail and delivery co"
i was interested in a more in-depth game about being a paper route, but i've played lots of varying-quality small indie games and didn't go in with many expectations.

it's made in unity, sprite work is fun to look at, and it has a sense of humor. i was really intrigued when i thought it was simply top-down, and an NPC told me i could rotate the camera. i haven't played very long but my expectations were surpassed for the little 3 dollar game. i really like it.
seems like a lot more features than i expected. after i played the first day, some more stuff showed up. what looked like a bonfire savepoint appeared in the work headquarters, and i was given the option to sleep at work, as well as skipping my day at work to play in some weird janky "fight club".

i really dig it, i'm gonna keep playing more and see if more fun features appear.

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments I was planning a 5-game Resi marathon, Resi 0 and REmake ps4 origins collection, and then the ps5 versions of the 2, 3 & 4 remakes.

Today started and binned off both Resi 0 and REmake. I appreciate their classic status (especially REmake) but they're massively products of their time and life is too short to try and slog through games which in all honesty just aren't up to modern standards. It's not the graphics, which are still remarkably pretty, but the controls and almost debilitating camera angles. Obviously I knew all about the tank controls, but you can't fully appreciate it until you play!

Anyway - not for me, so a trilogy it is, ps5 remakes of Resi 2, 3 & 4. That's still plenty to be getting on with i think!!

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Got an email from PlayStation congratulating me on the Gran Turismo 7 plat. They say 1% have got the plat, and apparently, I did it quicker than 80% of them.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments That's the way I remember it. There was one anniversary mode race that took quite a few attempts, but if you manage to scrape that one, there's maybe just one or two less tricky ones and the rest are pretty straightforward. Some of the times are pretty tough but mostly doable.
