Really enjoyed this book - I rarely read daddy kink so this was a departure from my normal reading. Its amazing how quickly I adjusted to the kink and it became totally normal in my brain 😉

Thanks Shannon - will definitely read on in this series...

A really quick read, no sooner had I started then I was on the epilogue.
A low angst story of Leo and Tris as well of Leo's uncle Edwin who lives in Cornwall, where Leo is spending a couple of weeks looking after him.
Edwin's story was so sad, showing how different things were for homosexual men 50 years ago.

My first book only had 121 pages, because I didn't realize that the 1st Kindle edition was in 2010, not 2017... I missed that as it was at the bottom of the list, I didn't scroll down far enough... so, I am going to have to read another 1st book... sorry!

Donna (donnaburks61) | 1287 comments UGH, I can see that there will be copious amounts of Googling with this book...

From its quaint black-and-white mock wattle and daub exterior, to the colorful bunting decorating the arch above the door, to the troughs, pots, and hanging baskets filled with flowers everywhere he looked.

*headdesk*

message 661: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mooselover) | 2724 comments Donna, did you google? lol
wattle and daub was the stuff they used centuries ago in construction of homes. Usually it contain animal manure of some description.

bunting is lots of pennants strung together to make a chain.

troughs are what is used to but water or animal food in.

I have always loved historicals, but I am coming to realize that I have a great fondness for mysteries, also! *grin*

Following my "too much sex" rant in most of the books that I have been reading lately (don't judge, I have NO clue why it is suddenly a big NO for me!) I have been truly enjoying books such as this one with low sex content!

I liked the way we were offered various suspects and that this wasn't your everyday run-of-the-mill murder... no spoilers here, but trust me when I say that I changed my mind several times on WHO done it!

Looking forward to reading Roots of Evil just as soon as it will fit into a challenge!

Another one... Windscreen? Seriously? A screen doesn't stop the wind, it lets it come in... hence why would a car have a windscreen instead of a windshield? Asking for a friend! *snort* LOL!!!

Those are all my standard terms over here 🤣 (Windscreen, boot, bonnet ~ never hood, trunk or windshield)

And whilst we don't use wattle and daub (except as a native tree and to daub on paint), we do still use bunting and troughs regularly! Especially troughs since we are constantly fixing them for the cattle!! We are currently getting pricing on troughs for our new cattle yards in town...

Clear through the whole book, all I could keep thinking was how heartwrenching the realities of life can be. Even though Edwin wasn't a main character, he was the heart of the story. This book was another example of how far we have come in the last 50 odd years and yet, there is so much more to be done. But, every morning I wake up with hope for a better day...

A fierce surge of hope rose, and he tried to quell it. He was too afraid to let out the ideas that were budding and blossoming in his brain in case they faded under scrutiny, like cut flowers in sunshine. But the hope remained.

So Fox is suffering from what looks like pretty severe PTSD when he is at home but as soon as he moves out and after a few days its hardly mentioned. He doesnt seem to have the episodes until later on in the book and then they seemed to be mostly dreams, except where he attacked Marshall. I felt it was a little like the author forgot he had PTSD and introduced it again towards the end of the book. Apart from that I did like the book. Marshall was good and I really liked Sam.
The only thing that I really didnt like was ...manties because urgh!

I show I've read this book and some things did seem kind of familiar but overall it read like a new read. Sad but true. We've met Kyle and Chaz in the Curl Up and Dye series so it was great to get their story. I loved both characters previously so this was a treat. The whole "I have a secret that will destroy us" and Chaz's treatment of Kyle got really old after a while but I still really enjoyed this. Kyle forgave Chaz his crappy way to fast but who am I to stand in the way of love. Can't wait to move to the next book!

A good beginning to a series ( hope there will be more as this is listed as book 1).
Arnie and his son AJ have gone home to Northumberland for the summer, back to where Arnie was born and raised. There he meets Dominic, a well known writer and helmsman of the local lifeboat.
There is a good mix of romance and also suspense where there is a murderer on the loose as well.
Recommended.

Small village... big secrets! My kind of read! *grin*

I also want to mention again how refreshing it is to not have my mystery overwhelmed by a bunch of sex scenes... all the sex is literally "off-page"! So, if this would be a problem for you... be forewarned!

So many suspects... so many secrets... and Mike and Jonathan just seem to grow more and more in love... not to mention their amazing "sleuthing" skills! LOL!!!

Several lives were changed by this murder, but hopefully, some things will stay the same! I guess I will find out when I read the 3rd and final book of the series... A Novel Murder!
