message 8: by Euphrosyne (new)

Euphrosyne (euphrose) Hello! I'm Euphrosyne and I'm a Filipina. I like to read science-fiction, but I prefer whatever genre really. Lately, I've been trying to get back into reading and I've been recently starting with classics. I found this group through google when I was searching for reading challenges to start with this year. My reading goal is to read twenty books this year but hopefully more than that by the end of the year.

message 9: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Dang (vivyd) Hello! I'm Vivian from Australia :) Like to read fantasy but also other different types of novels. Found this group while googling 2021 reading challenges :)

message 10: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary Ward | 3 comments Hi, I'm Ro from NJ. I'm impressed with your goals (!). My reading goal for the past three years has been equal in number to my age. In 2020, my goal was 63 but I made it to 81! This year I am challenging myself to read harder books - books outside my comfort zone. So, I will aim for my age again - 64 now - but if I take up the challenge, it will likely fall below 60 books in 2021. Still, I'm ready to read ~ it is medicine for the soul!

message 11: by ReadersPortfolio (new)

ReadersPortfolio (junjiitohoe) Hi! I'm Maxxie
I'm currently living in Japan.
I like to read mainly horror/thrillers and fantasy but it varies :)
I also love to read manga(primarily Shōjo)
My goal this year is to read 60 books because last year I completed 50 with no problem.

Sheryl_at_Ubookquitous (ubookquitous) | 377 comments Hi all. I'm Sheryl. I'm a regular here, although from 2020 you'd never know it. Sort of fell off the social media scene and my book goals. But I'm here and ready to read in 2021

message 14: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 31 comments Hi all! My name is Nicolle and I live in MN. I have been in a reading rut lately but hope to get back into reading in 2021. I mostly enjoy history, suspense, YA, romance and sci-fi books, but will read anything if it catches my eye. My goal this year is 60 books, and hope a majority of those are ones from my personal shelves (because although I haven’t been reading a lot lately that didn’t stop me from buying books, LOL)!

message 25: by Hondanabanana (last edited Jan 01, 2021 01:23AM) (new)

Hondanabanana Hi,

my name is Jasmina and I am from Germany where I work in a small independent bookstore. I mostly like to read contemporary fiction but for work I try to cover most other genres as well. When I read Fantasy and SciFi I tend to go for the wackier books like Walter Moers, Douglas Adams or Jasper Fforde.

I found this group by googling "how to complete the 2020 goodreads reading challenge", as I was still rushing to meet my goal of 80 books on December 31.

So naturally, my goal for 2021 is 100 books, ;)

Looking forward to getting to know all you fellow happy readers :)

I'm also on bookstagram as hondanabanana

message 28: by Yin Wah (new)

Yin Wah (yinsie) | 3 comments Hello all. I'm Yin (aka Brenda) I used to be quite a bookworm during my younger years but as the years went by life got in the way and I slowly stopped reading until last year (my eldest is quite a bookworm I guess he reminded me of my childhood reading days) so I decided to challenge myself to read 30 books before the year ended.... I have managed 50 in 2020!!
As its now 2021 I have challenged myself to read 60 books.
I pretty much read anything including music scores ( I have also gone back to piano and flute), although if it's based on a true story I tend to find it difficult to read as it breaks my heart knowing it's actually happened to someone.

Here's to another year of discovering the joys of books!!

Happy New year!!

message 30: by Kimberle (new)

Kimberle Johnson | 17 comments Happy New Year Everyone!
I reside in southern Maryland, but I am 100% Jersey girl! I have always had a love of reading. I teach 7th grade English Language Arts and have read more YA books than I care to admit! I get excited about psychological thrillers. I joined the group to expand my library, embrace some genres that I probably would not consider on my own and I liked the format of the group (monthly themes, nomination process).
My goal for 2021 is 50 books. Happy Reading!

message 31: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Leigh | 4 comments Hi all! I am Taylor, a travel nurse from Lancaster, KY.
- I like romance, contemporary, and what I think may called "chick lit," or, as my grandmother likes to say, fluff.
- I found this group browsing goodreads, some way or another, I'm not certain.
- My reading goal this year is to continue to enjoy reading. I start grad school in May, and I'm sad about all the time which will be taken away from my "reading challenge" goal, so I set the bar low at 20 books this year.

message 32: by Esha (new)

Esha Chakraborty | 1 comments Hey....happy new year...I am Esha and have not been able to do much reading in 2020....I am really excited about this reading challenge, to get back to track. I went through the themes and love them.

Would there be book recommendations too based on the themes? That would so help.

Happy Reading everyone

My name is Ozlen and I am from London. I read pretty much everything but mostly literary fiction, mystery/thriller and fantasy. I have been on Goodreads for a while now but never really looked at the groups until recently, to be honest and I thought what a great way to chat with people who love books and help me with my goals at the same time.

My reading goals for 2021 is to read 70 books with one being non-fiction and one classic every month.

message 37: by Suzanne (last edited Jan 01, 2021 09:45AM) (new)

Suzanne Best (suzanne78) | 2 comments Hi! My name is Suzanne. I’m in the Bay Area. I would love to connect with other readers! I finished 39 books last year, which was a substantial improvement over my numbers from 2019 and 2018! This year, I am going to go for 40-45 books, but I am hoping to read more! I’ve joined some other reading challenges like reading more classics and diverse reads. I am almost halfway through Station Eleven already, so I think I will try to finish that up this month!

I love reading classics, YA, literary fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, historical non-fiction and the occasional mystery/thriller/horror. Looking forward to connecting with others!

Krissie (mskrissie) | 1 comments Kia Ora, I'm Krissie. I'm a 37yo stay at home mum of 5 (ranging from 5yo twins - 17yo) from New Zealand. :) I used to read a lot pre kids but then found it too hard to find some me time. My hubby bought me a kobo a year ago and it rekindled my love of reading.

I love thrillers, dystopias, YA fiction but always happy to take reccomendations for books I might not have thought of.

I found this group yesterday by googling the 2021 book challenge for goodreads after not being able to find it.

My goal is small this year at 15 books after setting it at 30 last year and not quite making it to halfway. I'm really hoping to reach and pass that goal this year.

Any recommendations/friends are welcome, I'm enjoying Ottessa Moshfegh's work at the moment :)

Any other Hoosiers or Midwest folks in this group? I usually read romance, fantasy and thrillers but I hope to branch out this year and read more historical fiction and literature. Last year my goal was 40 and I ended the year with 43. I'm moving my goal up to 55 this year. When I'm not reading, I'm probably listening to Disney theme songs, working on DIY projects or eating cookie dough. I'm excited for all the books this year!

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hello All!

My name is Sarah and I am from Oregon in the U.S.

I love to read a variety of different books, depending on my mood, but I seem to gravitate more towards historical fiction/fantasy, and fantasy books, as well as history books.

My goal this year is to read 100 books or more. I used to be a part of a reading challenge group, and it really motivated me to keep reading, but unfortunately the group fizzled out. So I thought I would find another group to help keep me motivated.

I am looking forward to discussing books with people this year!

message 49: by Piper (new)

message 50: by DT (new)

DT Esposito | 1 comments Hi, DT here from the midwest US. I always aim for at least 100 books a year and just barely made it last year because of a lot of personal issues going on. I'm hoping this year will be better, and that I'll make my goal easily.

I love non-US police procedural mysteries best, but read other mysteries, literary fiction, and a wide range of nonfiction. I'm a big animal lover and recently retired from many years working with animals, including in the animal welfare field.

I will check out the sub-challenges too.
