Hey, all you audiobook fans!

It's time for another audiobook challenge, and this time we're keeping it very simple. Just pick your level, then pick from the list of characteristics you want to use, and start listening! Each item on the list can only be used once, and a book can only be used for one item. There are no limits on length except for the few rules where it is specified. Rereads/relistens are allowed.

First, pick your level:

Occasional Listener - 5 books
Commute Listener - 10 books
Steady Listener - 15 books
Heavy Duty Listener - 20 books
Earbuds are Fused to My Ears - 25+ books

A special pat on the back for anyone who listens to a book for every item on the list!

Now, pick the features you want to find in your audiobooks:

Favorite Author
New to You Author
Second Chance Author (one you've given up on for whatever reason)
Favorite Narrator
New to You Narrator
Second Chance Narrator
Male Narrator
Female Narrator
Dual/Group Narration
First Person Narration
First in Series
Continuation of Series
Stand-Alone (not part of a series)
New Release - 2015
Release Date - 2010-2014
Release Date - 2000 - 2009
Release Date - prior to 2000
Under 6 hours in Length
6 to under 10 Hours in Length
10 to 15 Hours in Length
Over 15 Hours in Length
Contemporary Romance
Historical – North American
Historical - European
Historical - All Others
Inspirational
Paranormal
Urban Fantasy
Romantic Suspense
Time Travel
Futuristic
Erotica
LGBT
Sci-Fi
Steampunk
Young Adult
New Adult
Classic
General Fiction
Non-Fiction

You are welcome to pick any options that appeal to you, and they can be listened to in any order. There is obviously plenty of room for overlap among the genres listed...if a book fits in more than one, feel free to use whichever one works best for you. The book should be shelved in such a way that it's clear it fits the category/genre, but the shelf name doesn't need to match exactly. For example, if a book is shelved as "romance" and "suspense" but isn't shelved as "romantic suspense", it still works, or something shelved as "early american" or "colonial america" would work for "Historical - North American".

When posting your completed audiobooks, please include the item that qualifies the book, the title (preferably a link), the name of the narrator/narrators, date finished, and star ratings for both the story and narration.

Example:

1. Historical - European: More Than a Mistress, narrated by Rosalyn Landor - 1/3/15
Story: ★★★★ Narration: ★★★★★

2. Paranormal: Slave to Sensation, Narrated by Angela Dawe - 1/7/15
Story: ★★★★ Narration: ★★★★

You may either repost or update your original post as you progress, but please repost when you finish...thanks!

Happy Listening!

iReadFluff (lovelee8) Does release date mean when the audiobook was released or when the book was originally published?

~KarenH~ | 6820 comments Leeann wrote: "Does release date mean when the audiobook was released or when the book was originally published?"

I went back and forth on this, whether to allow both options or not, but I think I'll go with just the original publication date for the book. It could be difficult to find the original audio release date of some of the older books that may have been released on tape in the pre-digital era then re-released later, so let's just not go there...

Hi Mary!

You don't have to change the way you shelve your books. The only way the bookshelves come into it is if you need/want to use how other GR members have shelved a book to determine if it qualifies for a specific genre or theme.

~KarenH~ | 6820 comments ***Hey everyone!***

Since this is an individual challenge and there is no interaction or competition involved, there is no requirement to specify how your book qualifies for each option. I only mentioned the bookshelves in the opening post as a way for people to find out if a book they're not sure about fits a certain category. If you know it fits just because you've read other books in a series or someone has told you (assuming they were correct), that is sufficient. And I'm sure not going to be checking everyone's lists to be sure the books they have listed actually work for the item they're using it for! :D

MountainKat | 19251 comments OK, I think I've asked this question for every audiobook challenge. I don't often, but sometimes I do go back and forth between listening and reading. Or just finish a book by reading in the evening because my hubby looks at me cross-eyed if I keep my earbuds in. So is there a percentage of the book that has to be listened to for it to qualify for this challenge?

Hmmmm, I'm thinking in previous years it's been around 75-80%, so let's stay in that neighborhood and say 75%.

Progress: 25 out of 25+ (Earbuds are Fused to My Ears - 25+ books)
- A special pat on the back for anyone who listens to a book for every item on the list!

Occasional Listener - 5 books
6 of 5 Books Complete!

FEATURES:
1. Female Narrator:
He's So Fine by Jill Shalvis, Narrated by Angele Masters – 2/25
Story: ★★★★ Narration: ★★★★
I’ve read the rest of this series, except somehow I missed the just previous book in the series. That was a little weird for me. But, it actually took me about 15% in before I realized that I was out of order, so I continued. I think it was to promote the idea that the woman hero was a loner, but one who wanted to fit in, but there wasn’t much interaction between the women friends in this story and I missed that component. I really enjoyed this narration. Ms. Masters did a great job. She even got the Pacific Northwest names correct, which goes a long way in keeping the book authentic.

2. Release Date - 2010-2014:
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison, Narrated by Sophie Eastlake – 3/4
Story: ★★★★★ Narration: ★★★★★
I love this book and I love the narration by Sophie Eastlake. This is a re-read/re-listen for me. I had a long drive that needed a book and this was the most appealing book on my phone to fill the time. Can’t say enough good things about the start of this series and Ms. Eastlake is really spectacular at making this book become even more real.

3. New Release – 2015:
Hero by Samantha Young, Narrated by Angelica Lee – 3/29
Story: ★★★½ Narration: ★★★★
I really enjoyed this book and the narration was great. Ms. Lee did a great job with both the female and male voices. The storyline gets a little frustrating with how many times Alexa put up with bad behavior from Caine. Yes, Caine had some really terrible events in his life, but he took his bad feelings out on Alexa and she forgave him because bad things had happened to him. Then Alexa would berate herself more for letting a man walk all over her just like her mother. I actually did like the story, but that part of their relationship got old for me very quickly.

4. Favorite Author:
Storm's Heart by Thea Harrison, Narrated by Sophie Eastlake – 4/14
Story: ★★★★★ Narration: ★★★★★
I love this series and Sophie Eastlake’s narration is great. I loved her reading of Pia in the first book in this series so much I was concerned that I wouldn’t enjoy the difference in Trix but Ms. Eastlake did a marvelous in portraying the character of Trix in a way that worked for me. I also think that it’s the variety of “voices” needed to complete a cast of characters that can sometimes reduce my enjoyment of a book if it’s difficult to follow who’s speaking. Ms. Eastlake managed well with a difficult cast (several older gentlemen from similar backgrounds). This story just moves the series along beautifully and it’s made me sad that we haven’t seen much more of Tiago and Trix (yet?) in the rest of the series.

5. Paranormal:
Serpent's Kiss by Thea Harrison, Narrated by Sophie Eastlake – 5/4
Story: ★★★★★ Narration: ★★★★★

I’m “re-reading” this series by listening to the audio books. I’m loving Sophie Eastlake’s narration and the stories are really great. I have to admit that I was a little confused by this storyline the first time I read this book. I feel like this second time through listening to it as clarified it for me. I love how Thea Harrison has created these male characters that are vicious and alpha in every way, but they have giant, kind hearts. I wasn’t too convinced that Carling would ever become a character I would be able to like, but again Thea Harrison makes her understandable and “human”. I do hate that there is now a problem between Dragos and Rune, a part of the over-arching storyline that I’m hoping will be resolved sometime soon.

6. Favorite Narrator:
Oracle's Moon by Thea Harrison, Narrated by Sophie Eastlake – 5/19
Story: ★★★★1/2 Narration: ★★★★1/2

I love these characters in the series, but it feels like the overall story really bogs down with this story. I think the change in Khalil is one of the best in this series though. I love the Djinn addition to the Elder Races. I think they are pretty cool. The final interaction with Khalil and Dragos really made me laugh. Sophie Eastlake continues to be spectacular in her narration. Love this Series.
