My name is Lucian Quinn and I own one of the most successful software companies in the world. I’m twenty-nine, rich and single. Impressive right? I’m also a favorite target for every hungry socialite looking to land the uncatchable catch. Maybe it sounds vain, but the fact that I’m a God between the sheets doesn’t hurt my stock any. What these women don’t know though is that I’m completely screwed up and damaged beyond repair by my past. The only part of me I’ll ever willingly give them is the hour it takes to make them scream…several times.
Then I saw her…
I’m Lia Adams and I’m in my last year at St. Claire’s University in North Carolina. I grew up with an abusive mother, and a twisted stepfather who was worse…so much worse. I’m so close to escaping from my past and making my dreams come true. I’ll do anything necessary to survive, even work as an escort to help pay for my college expenses. The men that I accompany to various events as an escort for Date Night are mostly harmless and just want an attractive woman on their arm for an evening. It has never gone further than that…until him…
Circumstances bring two people that should have never crossed paths together and in the days and weeks ahead, they grow close quickly, each seeing a kindred soul in the other. As ghosts from their past rise to haunt them, they cling to each other as their lives start to spiral out of control. Soon, they realize that they’re both damaged possibly beyond repair. Will their love be what saves or destroys them?

Meh.....Too many similarities with two other popular series
I bought this because the cover appealed and it was on sale. I have started to write reviews because I was tired of reading sunshine getting blown up an author's a**!!! I want honest opinions in reviews. I try not to be too blunt, but sometimes it gets away from me. If an author has the audacity to manipulate me or try to be sneaky with their writing, I am going to call them out on it.
Here are my issues with it, and yes, it will contain what some consider spoilers, so warning now! If you don't want to know more... stop reading my review :)
I don't know if smth is wrong with me ... But there was no real connection between the MC just their instant attraction/lust!! I didn't feel their love/passion..😩🥺
SPOILER ALERT BEWARE I'm warning you!!!!! Omg I'm dying for the next book. I need it right now!!! Lord have mercy this was some cliff hanger ending. Lucian is a rich businessman with a troubled past. Lia is a broke, hard working, determined college student with a terrible past. She was kicked out by her mom after being abused by her and badly burned and abused by her stepfather. She was homeless and broke but managed to survive and go to college. She works as an escort to earn money to survive. Then her she life changes. She is hired by Lucian. He is immediately drawn to her. He wants her more than anything. He hasn't been drawn to someone like this, ever. They quickly become inseparable. He even brings her to his home and hires her as his housekeeper to take care of her and be close to her. He never brings women to his home. They become closer and closer. He learns about her horrible past and falls even more for her. But he won't tell her about his past with Aiden and Cassie. Cassie has been catatonic for eight years after going crazy and trying to kill Lucian and herself all the while killing their son. There are a lot of things still unanswered. All of a sudden she recognizes Aiden. Then Lias stepfather gets out of jail and grabs her. Lucian finds her unresponsive. Omg what and end. I need the next book now. I loved this boom so much. The sex was out of this world hot. The suspense was addicting. Great great read.
Years later, still one of my favorite couples: ———————————— Lucian: wealthy businessman with a traumatic past. Lia: broke, hard working, college student with a traumatic past.
Lia’s mom abused her and after an abusive event with her stepfather, dear old mom kicked Lia out. Left to fend for herself, she was unwilling to let go of her college dream so she became an escort to earn money and survive. Ultimately she crossed paths with Lucian, who was instantly drawn to her.
Things moved quickly and soon they were inseparable. Not wanting to be away from her, Lucian hired Lia to be his live-in housekeeper. He found out about her awful past but at the same time he wasn’t willing to share his past involving Aiden and Cassie.
So who is Cassie? Lucian’s “ex”. And, after going crazy and trying to kill herself and their unborn baby 8 years ago, she hasn’t come out of her catatonic state. But....just when Lucian finds someone else to love, wouldn’t you know that Cassie all of a sudden starts to get better.
Apparently Cassie recognizes Aiden (Lucian’s best friend) and together with Cassie’s family Aiden tries to get Cassie out of the institution.
On the Lia front, all is not going swimmingly for her past ghosts either. Lia's stepfather gets out of jail and attacks her and Lucian finds her unresponsive. 😬😬
These two just can’t seem to escape their pasts and I was totally rooting for them. Lia is amazingly strong and i cheered her on the entire book. Even though it felt like she was continually knocked down (and brutally so in some instances) her ability to keep getting up and trying again was beyond admirable. I applauded her gumption. 👏👏👍
I feel like both of these two need to catch a break!! Maybe in book 2??
I liked this first book. Lia and Lucian meet due to an arranged date and feel a pull to each other and see something in each other they haven't felt for anyone else. He has a recent ex and also a one night sex buddy that doesn't understand he doesn't want her. He also has a old ex in his past that is mentioned but you know is a serious part of the unfolding story. He is young, rich, and intelligent but has some serious issues due to his past that he is still dealing with. Lia is a sweet intelligent young college woman with a difficult past as well that will play apart of her story as well. They don't know how to deal with how they feel about the other since it is new for them but they can't stay away either. The book ends with a cliffhanger so be warned.
For my friends who will ask, they don't get into his past sexual life just that he hasn't had a problem getting women but no details.
I re-listened to this because I couldn't remember it clearly. It's got things I liked, but it goes downhill. Nobody in this book is pierced and I feel totally ripped off by that!!!
Two lost souls drawn together by the scars of the other….I only hope we can both put our pasts behind us enough to have a future together.
Lia Adams(23, college student) left home at 18 to escape her abusive mother and sexually/physically abusive stepdad. She fought her way from homelessness to a college student by waitressing. When one of her roommates introduces her to Date Night (a companion service), she’s able to live a little more comfortably.
Lucian Quinn(29, Quinn Software) needs a date to a function and his BFF, Aidan, tells him to about a service that provides escorts (non-sexual ones). He ends up with Lia, who doesn't have a filter, and is drunk on NyQuil. Lucian is insta for Lia and tells her to quit her job so he can fuck her. He's really into dirty talk. Then all the fun and games begin…. Except…..the fun part gets bogged down with all the depressing stuff from their pasts. This ends on a cliffy…..
So…. This book started and I thought it was going to be funnier – but there’s a lot of triggering stuff. Both of them have tragic backstories and it gets depressing. It is VERY similar to Bared to You by Sylvia Day.
SEX: Something fun to talk about. There’s a lot of it and it starts early at 30%. Woo hoo!! Unfortunately, they’re mostly all one pumpers. That’s usually ok for most people.
PASTS: We mostly deal with Lia's past, which surprisingly isn't drawn out. She pretty much straight up tells the truth as soon as it's asked. I was thankful for that. We touch on the ghosts of Lucian's past: a surprise issue he has that made me gasp, his tragic childhood, and his commitment issues.
TRIGGERS: I'm going to put the triggers for the whole series here because I think it's important to know what you're in for. Now these triggers could spoil something for you, so you decide if it's worth knowing.
AUDIO: I recommend reading it. Sean Crisden narrates this and I was shocked to discover he has two different voices. One that is sexy and gravely, and then the one that’s used in this book. This voice is what I assume is his regular voice. Kind of nasally. Anyway - the serious issues that they talk about all sound funny. It totally doesn't match. They'd talk about a violent beating and I'd think, "why are they laughing about this" only to realize it was just the tone of their voices. I honestly think reading the book sets and entirely different tone, and would make the sex parts sexier and the other parts more normal. FYI. He uses the kind of sexy voice in Book 2 when narrating Lee Jacksons character.
Overall, I think I liked this and I think I recommend it.
SIDE PIECES: There are a lot. Rose Madden: Lia’s roommate. Get’s her own book, but she’s not the same person in that book. Jake: Rose’s boyfriend. Aidan Spencer: Luc’s partner & BFF. Cassie Wyatt: from Luc’s and Aidan’s past. Lee Jacks: Real estate developer. Fae: Luc’s aunt. Cindy: Luc’s secretary. Sam: Luc’s driver & friend. Max Decker: Luc’s lawyer and friend. Laurie: Luc’s ex. Monique Chandler: Screws both Aidan & Luc. Wants Luc. Debra: Helped Lia when she left home. Martin: Debra’s man. Megan: Lia’s former roommate. Introduced her to Date Night. Jackson: Lia’s former boyfriend who took her V. Maria Dawson: Lia’s mom. Jim Dawson: Lia’s stepdad.

“Oh, Lia, you never challenge a man like me. I promise you; you’ll do everything I want you to do and beg for more."

“I want you to call into work tomorrow and quit your job. I don’t think you need to bother with notice; it’s not likely you will ever use them for a future job reference.” I nod my head in agreement, fighting the sleep threatening to claim me when his words finally hit me. What the h***? “Wh—What did you say?” Had I imagined the whole thing? Without looking at me, he repeats his demand. I shake my head, completely confused. “What are you talking about? Why would I quit my job? Oh, no,” I gasp in horror, “are you trying to get me fired because of tonight? It was just cold medicine!” His eyes are glittering in the darkness. “Baby, if I wanted to have you fired, I would. I want to f*** you, but not when you’re being paid to be my date.”

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔
This book is smut personified but with a very good story line. I’m anxious to read the next book in series because this one left us hanging by a fingernail on the side of a cliff.
Both Lucian and Lia have a tragic past and are dealing with those demons and PTSD. Lucian self medicates and Lia is scared of almost everything but she has overcome so much and is putting herself through college. Will these 2 be perfect for each other or will they become codependent?

TSTL heroine. Unprotected sex with hero after only knowing him a couple days? Knowing he's a man who "has had many women" No THANK YOU.
Even though I've never read Sylvia Day's Crossfire series, I've read plenty of reviews and seen many comments/discussions about it to know Day's Gideon is a tortured soul who has lots of nightmares about his past. As does this hero. The first time they were in bed together and he was whimpering in his sleep, Gideon was my first thought. Did the author mean for that to happen? Not sure but.....I can't help where my mind went when I read that scene.
Hero who does cocaine but can function and make great business decisions while high? I don't think so. We’re really expected to believe that only he, his supplier, his driver (who put him in touch with the supplier) and his friend are the only ones to know about his habit? That he can go through his day acting just fine while high as a kite? Really??
Juvenile dialog, shallow characterization, weak plotting...yep...that about sums it up. I think the author may have been trying for something akin to 50 Shades of Gray, but falls miserably short even with the understanding that 50 Shades sets the bar for romantic erotica pretty low.
The 200 plus people who rated this as a 5 are certainly welcome to their opinion, but I just don't get it. Lucian is controlling and Lia is juvenile and silly and, as a consequence, their "chemistry" was nonexistent in my opinion. The scene of their meeting is painfully ridiculous with some of the worst dialog I've ever read and sets the stage for a story that taps every cliche in this genre. Fortunately, I paid nothing for this book, but I suggest you read a sample before you invest much time or money.
WARNING: In attempting to set backstory for the female protagonist, the author describes child abuse and molestation in fairly graphic detail. If this is a trigger for you, you may want to pass this by.
Bossy Alpha Males are right up my alley. But this one takes the cake. He is B.O.S.S.Y.
Lia has taken control of her life. She is in school, has a job and has put her past behind her. Her job is dating. She is not a call girl, she is goes on dates for money. No sex. Just being an escort. She just makes sure she never wears backless dresses. That past she tries so hard to forget...it left more than emotional scars.
Lucian has scars of his own. He also puts everything into work. He has a past he tries to forget too. When he needs a date, he meets Lia. And his bossy side comes out. Like in a big way.
I want you to call into work tomorrow and quit your job. I don't think you need to bother with notice; it's not likely you will ever use them for a future job reference.
Luc and Lia are hot and heavy fast. Lia finds herself acting out of character, taking chances and letting go a bit.
What is happening to me? I've never been a cock-gawker.
They both has pasts that are going to get in the way of their future.
There are only two possible outcomes I could see: We would either save or destroy each other.
Warning: Major Cliffhanger Ending
I want the next book now please. This cliffhanger stuff is for the birds.
I went into this book with high expectations, having just come off a very disappointing read. The story starts so damn so slow and is so wordy in the beginning, that I thought for sure I was going to be yet disappointed by another book. But a few chapters in, the authors over descriptive details relax and I was able to connect better with the story and the characters. Lucian is a hardcore, arrogant, alpha male, who likes things his way and only his way. Lia is a college student with a haunted past who comes into Lucian's life when he hires her as date, through an escorting service. Take note, this escort services, supplies dates only, no hanky panky!
Lucian knows right away there is something that he needs and wants from Lia, and is very upfront about it. Lia is not sure about this man, but as the story continues she finds herself needing him just as much as he needs her.
I liked the way that Lia softened up Lucian's character and loved the way he protected her and put her first before anyone or anything else. I also enjoyed the way the author used the secondary characters to make the story more interesting. Overall, this was a good read.
Pierced is book 1 in Lucian and Lia series by Sydney Landon. The alpha male self-aggrandizement in the beginning almost turned me off.
Horrible histories and upbringing slowly emerge. Both Lucian and Lia have survived through abusive and unloving youths. I truly enjoyed the Date Night beginnings. Lia could spoil an alpha male with disdain. I loved it! All the time she was wanting hot sex was amusing. While from vastly different economic lifestyles, I was wondering how it could be resolved to both their satisfaction. I’m not fond of billionaire stories, but Lucian didn’t display much elitism which also made me like the story. Both of them had protective feelings for each other.
Wow, I was mightily surprised at the cliffhanger finish. This was a fun adult story I want to finish. So, I’m off to get Fractured
Pierced is about two lonely souls who both have shattered pasts. Lia is a product of an unloving and abusive relationship. Slowly, she learns that family is not always there for you. Lia struggles to make it from paycheck to paycheck until she can finish school and when her job at Date Night leads her into the companionship of Lucian Quinn.
Their relationship progresses from fight, argue and ignore one another like an normal couple.
"Wow, in just a few days, I've gone from being a God to you to being told to piss off. How the mighty have fallen."
"I barely know this girl, but I want to fucking kill on her behalf."
I love the tension in the chemistry between Lucian and Lia. From the beginning the author really grab my attention and I could see the beginning of a great story unfold between these two characters. I can't wait to see where the story goes and if and when the other secrets are unveiled
Ok, the first quarter into the book I thought Lia was immature. Also conflicting personality of Lia was off putting.
"As Mindy and Lucian continue to converse, I fight the urge to stick my finger down my throat and gag dramatically." This was eye rolling not funny to me to begin with.
But then,
"For some reason, everyone over the age of fifty seems to love me. Other than Rose and a few other classmates, I rarely spend time with people my own age; I learned early on that people can be petty and mean. Debra always tells me I have an old soul"
Really? like "I fight the urge to stick my finger down my throat and gag dramatically?" Oh, she meant people being mean to her, not her being mean about other people. Got it!
She was just not sensible. Very young and immature. The cold medicine made her drowsy but she needed liquid courage with it? I have been on cold medicine, it really didn't effect my table manners with cutting my food. In my opinion Lia would have been better off as a hooker, because she lacked any kind of class or finesse as a supposed escort. It was eye rolling and unbelievable for me.
I didn't like her, she acted completely idiotic. When I cannot like a main character it's hard for me even enjoy a book let alone finish. The characters where too over drawn for my taste.
There are warnings regarding the content of this book and you should also be aware it ends with a cliffhanger. But it was a good read.
Lia suffered from an abusive childhood but she managed to make a better life for herself and got into a good college on scholarship. But she still needs money for books, food, housing, and supplies. She gets a job with an escort service called Date Night. Escort is not a euphemism for prostitution. The job pays well and fits her schedule.
One night she gets an assignment to accompany young, hot, software mogul Lucien Quinn to a dinner event. Even though Lia has a cold and has already taken a dose of Nyquil, she takes the job. She's a bit loopy from the meds but makes a good impression on Lucien. In fact, he wants to go out with her again and tells her to quit the service. She needs the job and is not willing to take a handout so he hires her as his maid.
Lucien's past is a source of pain for him and while he gets closer to Lia and supports her when her past rears its ugly head, he can't quite come to share what troubles him. I will be reading the rest of this series. I'm really rooting for Lucien and Lia.
The fact that this book ended on a cliffhanger automatically brought it down by an additional star for me. I don't like feeling like I have to purchase the next book in a series. I'd much rather the author's work stand on its own to entice me to read more. In this case, I wouldn't have been interested in the next book anyway. The writing was a little too simplistic for my taste, and the book was riddled with errors that a good editor should have caught. The numerous tense changes and other issues turned me off. The fact that it was told in two points of view was another negative in my opinion. It felt too much like two stories happening simultaneously rather than one cohesive plot as each main character had their own issues to overcome and neither had them resolved throughout the pages of this book. The cliffhanger stopped the book right at the climax of each character's plot.
I will admit that the erotic scenes were hot, but the plot was too contrived for my taste with the characters' attraction being instantaneous and them practically living together rather quickly.
OMG, I got this book a few days ago and have never read any of your books before this one and let me just tell you that I'm so happy I decided to read it!! I am in love with this story and I'm so sad that I have to wait for the second one. I wish it was ready to read now! As soon as I finished it, I had to find out more about your work and I was lead to facebook which I liked your page right away and then I found myself here on goodreads leavinv this review which I honestly rarely do unless its a book that has gotten to me and your book has! I couldn't put it down, I love the way it flowed and I seriously can't wait for the continuation because I really need my fix right about now just like Luc.. lol You have been added to my favorite authors and I'm going to check out your other books now. I'm glad I read this and I will highly recomend your work! Looking forward to the next one...
I loved this start to this series. It was sad how Mia struggled in the beginning, but I like the way the author started to lay the groundwork for the story and introduce all the characters. I love Debra and Martin who help Lia initially and then Lia's roommate Rose and Rose's boyfriend Jake. There is also Lucien's driver Sam and his best friend Aiden.
This book ended on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. Hopefully it is as good as this one.
I'm getting to lazy to review lately LOL. 3.5 stars. It had good relationship progression, very enjoyable to read. Really no faults apart from its predictability and cliche-ness. I really liked how the story played out though! And the characters!
I had trouble with rating this book...i'M STILL NOT IN THE CLEAR but i will continue to read the next installment cause now I need to see what the fuck happened...
