In England she was a governess, but in New Zealand she becomes a farmer's wife. She had considered herself knowledgeable about running a household, but didn't realize that in her new home that would mean outdoor manual labor such as milking the cow. She was used to being in a city, but in order to get to the closest town she needs to ride a mule for several hours.
