My word/goal for the year is: PROACTIVE
However, because I'm so proactively pursuing a number of other things, I haven't had time to read my "Proactive" letter books! But I have been reading other things that fit with this challenge (largely things I've borrowed and been meaning to return and/or things that I've been meaning to get to forever).
So I'm backing down to simple status! (And now I have half a chance to finish this challenge).

I have way too many options...

Sure, Emily! If it's stand alone, that's fine. We just don't want people continuing an established series for the challenge.

The first quarter challenge runs from January 1st to March 31st.
How it works:
♦ As usual, we will be reading 6 books (minimum). The books you choose must be written by a completely new author to you – meaning an author that you’ve never read before.
♦ There are two levels to this challenge, so it’s up to you as to how involved you’ll get.
1. Fancy Fun level : Read at least 6 books by new authors and use those titles/author names to spell out one (or several!) of your goals/resolutions for the upcoming year. (Please feel free to share further explanations for your goals, especially if they might not be immediately obvious).
Example for Fancy Level:
R - Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin (middle grade)
E - Expecting by Lula Belle
A - Adaptation by Malinda Lo
D - Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd
M - Young Elites by Marie Lu
O - Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine
R - When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
E - Mockingbird by Katherine Erskine
2. Super simple level : Read 6 books by new authors. That is all.
(This is an option for folks wishing to participate, but wanting a little more simplicity in their lives).
♦ Audio books are allowed.
♦ Both stand alone books and first in a series books are allowed, as long as it's from a new author to you.
♦ All of the books MUST be at least 150 (paper) pages in order to qualify for this challenge. If the kindle or eBook pages are different than the paper count, please provide the correct number, so no books are left out unjustly. If you are reading an ebook only book, the word count MUST be a minimum of 45,000.
♦ You may use one non-YA book towards this challenge (adult, middle grade, or new adult). If you are participating in the fancy level and are reading more than 6 books to create your word(s), you may use TWO non-YA books.
♦ You can select as many new releases as you want, provided it fits all of the other qualifications of this challenge.
Loophole:
Since we all love reading favorite authors, you are allowed 1 old author in our reading mix, provided that it is at least a brand new series to you. No continuing a series with a 'new' installment.
Let us know if you'd like to participate and at which level!
I'll be keeping track of participant’s progress (as much as possible) in post #2. Participants will be listed alphabetically by their name and the number of their original post in the challenge.
When posting your progress, please remember to use the number attached to your original post as well. (This will be especially useful to save me from mixing up folks with similar names).
