message 203: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments I've been reading all over the place and picking up things due to interest level at the time (and/or the need to return things) so I've thrown my "Fancy Status" out the window. It so wasn't happening!

However, I'll continue to "proactively" keep at my reading goal - especially as it pertains to New/New/New! Let's see how many I can read before this challenge is over.

In the meantime, I read two more:
The Giver (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Book 10/12 finished! Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Thanks Gremlin!

I'm contemplating round 3 . . . I can do it, but I'm not sure if I want to.

message 224: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments If you've still got books that work within the challenge parameters, I say go easy and aim for completing 1/2 of a round :)

On the other hand, I know how much I enjoy having a complete and free reign over my choice of books sometimes, so you could count March as your reward for doing so well on the challenge in January and February.

In either case, you did smashingly! Good job!

What did you think? This really seemed right up my alley but I had trouble getting into it. I only got as far as (view spoiler) before I put it down and found myself not wanting to pick it up. But at the same time, I don't want to completely give up on it...

I really wanted to like this more than I did. The premise was great and the writing wasn't bad - but the characters were blah and there were too many moments in which I had to suspend my disbelief in order to keep reading. I finished, but probably won't be reading any further in the series (also, I was annoyed that it was SUCH a series book. No sense of completion to book #1 at all! Just a cliffhanger).

message 230: by Gremlin (last edited Mar 06, 2015 02:48PM) (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments I've technically finished my 6th - woohoo! Just finished reading My Heart and Other Black Holes (which was a pretty good book for teens about depression, I think).

I'm going to see if I can re-upgrade myself to fancy, now that I've finished the "simple version" (since I down-graded earlier as a means to even finish this challenge).

No promises, but it's worth a shot! :)

message 231: by shanghao (last edited Apr 07, 2015 11:54PM) (new)

Jessabeth (jessabethy) | 20 comments This challenge has been great for me because it made me realize I can read more than I thought I could! So I figured I'd just keep going even though I picked simple level.
Finished # 7 Altered (Altered, #1) by Jennifer Rush . Updated post 71.

I'm currently reading another new to me author Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City, #1) by Penny Reid but doubt I will finish it before end of March since life is starting to get in my way again.

You've always got the option of doing what I did. Abandon ship! No, wait... I mean... Change your plan. Instead of pushing for the fancy one, you can always switch back to the simple version. You've already read 5 books - so just one more would get you to simple status completion! :)

message 246: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamiemayhem) | 93 comments Well in that case, WOMAN OVERBOARD! LOL I just finished a book so I can definitely fit one more in before the end of the month.

message 248: by shanghao (new)

shanghao (sanshow) Finished book two: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell . Took me forever to finish this since it's too...teenage-y and not very exciting in my opinion. Mary Sue main character too.

Luckily the next book looks promising!
