It doesn't matter, Robert. My list generally changes all year long depending on what I'm in the mood to read at the moment. I hope you join the challenge with us!

Elke (misspider) | 651 comments I decided to use the above mentioned lists for a short inventory of:
- old books collecting dust on my shelf for ages
- new books already in danger of getting lost in the masses
- books I intend to get since forever but always find a reason not to

So this is my challenge:

01. Cabal
02. Die kalte Braut
03. Jack & Jill
04. NOS4A2
05. Progeny
06. The Bleeding Season
07. The Day of the Triffids
08. The Delicate Dependency
09. The Girl with All the Gifts
10. The Keep
11. They Thirst
12. Violet Eyes
13. Wink

Huh, did not read any of those titles...guess it's not my thing to schedule my reading.

Anne | 76 comments Ok, I'm in for 20, though if it's a typical year it'll be at least twice that in the end. Starting with the Nightmare Magazine list. I've read many of them but I'm going to start by filling in some gaps, then I'll move onto the other lists. Can't wait to get started!
>I've updated and increased to 25, will probably have to go higher. Reading a lot so far this year!<
First five:
1. The Imago Sequence - Laird Barron
2. The Doll Who Ate His Mother - Ramsey Campbell (big fan, can't believe I haven't read this one!)
3. The Shallow End of the Pool - Adam-Troy Castro
4. 20th Century Ghosts - Joe Hill
5. Dead in the Water - Nancy Holder
Adding a few more:
6. The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson
7. House of Leaves, Mark Danielewski
8.

message 62: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) Each year it gets harder to find books that I haven't already read. The Nightmare Magazine list worked well for me and I selected these 9. I already have 3 of the 9 titles and have started reading my first book.

1. Audrey's Door - Sarah Langan
2. House of Leaves - Mark Danielewski
3. Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson
4. All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By - John Farris
5. Houdini Heart - Ki Longfellow
6. Conjure Wife - Fritz Leiber
7. Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad
8. The House on the Borderland - William Hope Hodgson
9. Ghost Stories of an Antiquary - M. R. James

Holly, i don't know how you feel about audio books but I know for a fact LibriVox has recordings for those last 2. I think it's LibriVox.org but they are public domain so you should be able to find them free somewhere online if you'd rather read them.

Thank you!
After writing down my list I felt like my picks were a bit "all over the place". :D
The one book I know the least about is The Bottoms. It's been recommended to me by a friend, but other than him I don't know anyone who has read that book.
It's encouraging to hear you liked it, and the ratings are pretty good so I'm looking forward to it!

You mean on the yearly challenge - then you would put a read date on it when you mark it read or the review box comes up.

If it's for a group challenge you joined that's official (like the widget at the top of the group for Horror Afficiandos), then have it set as date read but also put in the bookshelf you made for the challenge.

message 85: by Natalie (last edited Dec 12, 2015 07:06PM) (new)

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) Well, since 13 is always a spooky fun number, I’m going for at least 13. Since my total 2015 challenge is set at 75 (and I’m well on my way to read more), I imagine I’ll read more than this. And since I want to try to get around to some classics I’ve neglected over the years, I’ve included a number of them in this list.

1. Dracula by Bram Stoker
2. Shadowland by Peter Straub - Finished - 4 Stars
3. The Stand by Stephen King
4. The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey - Finished - 5 Stars
5. The Passage by Justin Cronin
6. Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice
7. Twilight by William Gay - Finished - 4 Stars
8. Cold Hand in Mine by Robert Aickman - Finished - 3 Stars
9. Night Relics by James P. Blaylock
10. Pines by Blake Crouch - Finished - 3.5 Stars
11. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James - Finished - 2 Stars
12. The Crow by James O’Barr - Finished - 5 stars
13. Maplecroft by Cherie Priest - Finished - 4.5 Stars

Bonus: The Complete Fiction by H.P. Lovecraft. Now, I’ll likely make my way through this one throughout the year, as it’s quite massive. But it makes SUCH a lovely coffee-table book, and I certainly need to read these.

Julie (chthonian) New arrival (yes, with only three months left of the year). I've been quietly chipping away at my challenge for a few months now but just never commented here! I aimed for 8 books, but have already surpassed it so might up the count to 13 or 15:

01. The Haunting of Hill House (Shirley Jackson) ★★★★★
02. Dracula (Bram Stoker) ★★★★☆
03. Dreadful Skin (Cherie Priest) ★★★☆☆
04. Aliens: Earth Hive (Steve Perry) ★★★★★
05. Aliens: Nightmare Asylum (Steve Perry) ★★★★☆
06. Under the Dome (Stephen King) ★★★★★
07. Carrie (Stephen King) ★★★★☆
08. Little Girls (Ronald Malfi) ★★★★★
09. We Have Always Lived in the Castle (Shirley Jackson) ★★★★☆
10. The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman) ★★★★☆
11. The Lottery and Other Stories (Shirley Jackson) ★★★★★
12. The Girl with All the Gifts (M.R. Carey) ★★★★★
13. Gone (Michael Grant) ★★★★☆

(Shh, no one judge my pulpy Aliens tie-in reading.)

End-of-year: complete with 13 books!
