"I always find this hard to understand when I hear people say that they are reading several books at once. Well I am an author who not only writes but loves reading book..."
Sorry Kristie. Will do.
Jane.

I also remember during my children's time, they would have Book Day at their school. The auditorium was full of books of different genres. And they were very cheap to buy. That's how they got introduced to R.L. Stine. That was exciting, too.

That's what they were called, Book Fairs! I miss those.
Thanks for those memories, Everybody. It was so nice to go back and revisit that.

I mean, the list is endless :D

OMG true heaven!!

When I was at school we had book leaflets from Puffin (Penguin) . My mother wouldn't get any either and I felt it was so unfair that even though I was the best reader in the class I could only stare around enviously while everyone else received their books.
I didn't borrow books from friends but had some generous relatives who always gave me book tokens for my birthday.

I mean, the list ..."
So true!!! I have like, 12 books that I really want to read!!!
I keep finding books to read, and read one out of, say, 3; and then get three more to read......

Crystal my list is every-growing. I am reading more books than I have ever read and I feel like I am drowning in books! Not that I am complaining haha! But it would be nice if I sometimes didn't know what to read.

Oh, Esther, sorry. I can really identify with that. But now you can get your own:)

I'm glad the flyers are still around :-) I loved ordering books from those in grade school (back in the 80s, for me). Also loved the Christmas book fairs that my school had. I miss those...

I live in a non-English speaking country so getting books from libraries or even second-hand is not really feasible and for awhile our budget was too tight for book buying.
But now I am in a full-time well-paid job and one of the greatest pleasures this new financial security brought me was realising that I could buy a book whenever I wanted, even if I knew I didn't have time to read it.

Goodreads.
Even when I didn't have the means to buy new books I read newspaper reviews whenever I saw them and asked friends what they were reading, But that is limiting.
I have always loved scifi but was only exposed to the classics which can be slowing-going and dated. Nobody else I knew read scifi.
I heard about The Eyre Affair from an online TV forum and after a visit to England my mother couldn't stop talking about the Harry Potter phenomenon.
Then I joined Goodreads, read reviews and people's opnions in the forums and suddenly I had so many new recomendations.
After a while I began to recognise which people had similar tastes and also which books appeared again again until I felt I had to read them (At present this is The Memory Police)

I am an avid bookworm, actually addicted to reading - I begin to feel unwell if I don't read for a while but I am also a bibliophile with a love of tsundoku.
I do occassionally panic that I don't have enough time to read all the books I own but most of the time I find great pleasure in just gazing at my double-stacked shelves.

I'm the same, Esther. I have way more books than I'll ever read, but I continue to purchase. Sometimes it feels like a waste if I don't read them, but I do enjoy seeing them there and I know I will never run out of things to read, so it's a bit of a comfort too.
My biggest issue is that I tend to prioritize other books. Library books have a due date and my review books have publishing dates. Challenges have end dates... so I tend to read all of those first. The books I own will always be there waiting for me, so even though I buy books that I really want to read, they always get put aside for other reads.

Kristie, it's going to take me a while to get used to your new Avatar:) Nice.

Thanks. :) It's taking me a while to get used to it too. lol

Groovy, I get so happy when I see the Scholastic truck driving on the highway.

I wish I could see them, Rachel:)

I like to look through people's bookshelves here on Goodreads :-)

It’s sweltering hot outside! I look forward to cooler times, don’t you?
Just so everyone knows, I am a Christian (a very human one) but am not opposed to making friends with anyone of all different religions and lifestyles. If you see my reading profile, it’d be obvious from some of the stuff I read what I believe.
If you aren’t put off by where I stand spiritually and would like to get to know me, I’d love to be your friend. I promise not to scare you by being overly preachy (if I come on too strong, tell me), but if you have questions about my faith or anything along those lines, I will be happy to answer. You also can easily do that with some of the books you read!
I can’t promise to always have an answer for anything and everything you ask ( books or religion) but I promise I will always tell the truth. And I hope you won’t hate me for doing that, even if the truth turns out to be unpleasant.
And no, I am not out to proselytize or shove anything down anybody’s throat. I just want to let you know where I stand.
Blessings to y’all!

My name is Sophie, i'm 32 ,from Belgium. I have the goodreadsapp about 6 or 7 years but never got into groups. just recently I discovered that there 's a site (not just an app) and that gave me acces to a whole lot of groups! Finally :D
So here I am...
I'm reading the book of lost things from john connelly.
anyone read this before?

still reading it :) but I like it already... i'll keep you posted about it ;)

Did anyone see that Chadwick Boseman passed away? I find this really sad. He was only 43 and he died from colon cancer. He had been fighting it for 4 years, so he was filming superhero movies while fighting cancer. That's just crazy to me. For those of you that aren't familiar with his work, he was the actor who played Black Panther in the the Marvel movies. He was also the MC in Marshall and 21 Bridges among other movies. Really talented man and so young.

He was a real fighter and didn't even speak publicly about his diagnosis. He'll always remain in our hearts. RIP.

I was really shocked by the news. Black Panther is my favourite superhero film, in large part because of his presence, and in interviews he seemed liked such a pleasant man.

Black Panther was my favorite superhero movie also, Esther, and he was so good in it. I really liked him as an actor.

I am currently reading 'By the Tungabhadra' by Saradindu Bandopadhyay and thoroughly enjoying this Historical Fiction. Originally published half a century back, it is a timeless classic. Would recommend it to readers of historical fiction.
