Happy July, Christine!!

Where did you see murder hornets and aliens, Kristie?"

Just some things that have come out in the news this year. We had the murder hornets that have been found in the US causing concern for the bee population. Then, the government released videos of unidentified flying objects taken by the Navy. Just a couple random things that have popped up this year while people have been focusing on the pandemic. 2020 has been a really weird year.

Disney + has sooo much content. It is worth it if it stays $7.99 a month.

I've thought about getting it, but it seems that you need to buy everything separately now and still pay for cable. Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+... I don't really watch much TV, so it doesn't seem worth it.

Yeah, things are getting kind of out of control with tv. I don't have cable or watch much tv either. There is a lot of nostalgia on Disney+ though. They just added the movie The Witches which is a childhood favorite of mine (how the witches didn't terrify me I have no idea!!).

message 256: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I accidentally signed up for Amazon Prime trial. For $12.99 a month, I don't know why people have it. It's so disappointing. It's the same setup as Disney--in order to see the good movies, you have to pay extra. And the free movies you can see on regular T.V., or are not worth watching. I have yet to get "Free Express Shipping". And really, I get my Amazon packages pretty quick without it.

We were so excited about watching THE WALKLING DEAD, but you have to pay. Disappointing. You can usually get the movies and series they charge you to watch, free from the library, anyway!!!

I am one person that believes in not paying to watch television. This just proved why...

HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND, EVERYBODY.

message 257: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments If you still have Prime, Groovy, be sure to get the free ebook that comes with it. There is one each month. Plus, there are plenty of books you can borrow for free. I think up to 10 at a time.

You do. There are some that you borrow, but these you keep and in July they're giving two instead of one. Here's the link for this month: https://www.amazon.com/firstreads/ref...

Aoife Dooner | 6 comments Hi all Happy July, I must say it's really crazy to read how all the streaming services differ across countries. Here in Ireland we have no Hulu, Its all Netflix, Prime and Disney + with totally different content to what is on in the states. I would love to watch "The Witches" it was always been one of my favs along with Matilda and super excited to watch the remake. next year. Here's hoping it keeps some of the nostalgia unlike some of the Disney remakes. Has anyone watched Little Fires Everywhere? It has recently been released over here and I'm wondering is it worth a watch?

Groovy Lee Hi, Ava. My daughter absolutely LOVES anime. Too bad she isn't a part of this thread. The two of you would talk forever!!! But I hope you find someone here. It's exciting when you can talk to people who share the same love as you.

My children used to watch Dragon Ball, Naruto, Sakura and Inuyasha. My daughter had a crush on Inuyasha. I had a mummy-crush on Sakura's older brother.
Our cable had it on twice a day once dubbed and once with subtitles. My children loved watching with subtitles and tried to learn Japanese.
They still watch now they are in their 20s. I know one of their favourite series is Attack on Titan.

Also when I was in my 20s and unemployed Ulysses 31 was one of my comfort watches.

That was the US link. I don't have the CA link, but I think the free book is for Prime members anywhere. I get an email reminder, so maybe check your email settings if you're also a member and they'll send you a link each month.

message 281: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Well it's been a month since I joined Amazon Prime and I still don't know why people pay almost $13 a month for it. I may get one item that qualifies for 2 day delivery. Most things I order take an entire week. And yet I still have it. Why? So I can see Bear Gryll's World's Toughest Race challenge in Fiji coming in August. Some people love Anime, including my daughter, I love tough race challenges almost as much as tennis. But once that's over, goodbye Amazon Prime!!!!

message 282: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Ava, good for your Mom. She's having fun with it:) As for tennis, I'm just an avid French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open fan. If you want to play it, it's only hard if you don't like running around a big court after a tiny ball--LOL! But I admire the other sports you play. I wish I had your energy!! I used to run track, and then I had 4 children. So there goes that:)

Renee (elenarenee) | 149 comments Amazon Prime works well for us

We got our groceries with it through the andemic. We also enjoy the movies. Yes they are older but we still like them.

message 284: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee You made a good point, Renee. I forgot we could get our groceries from them. While I have it, I might give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

message 285: by Susan (new)

Susan Prime is great for movies and series. Plus, I use Amazon Photo's now, too. Plus if you have a reader of any kind (Kindle, etc.) you can get many free or low cost books. Just saying.

message 286: by Susan (new)

Susan There is a website called Libby that you can check out books by using your library card. You can load multiple cards as well. I listen to audio books mostly and use that site a lot. If I want a first run book that isn't listed, I use Audible, but it is not free.

message 287: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thanks, Susan. Another good tip I forgot. I'm going to get in on that. I REALLY appreciate the tips I'm getting. I guess I should go back and read the benefits of having Prime. I just didn't know all of this was included.

I'm with Prime because I think someone hacked into my account and tried to get the free trial. I never would have clicked that button. So I changed my password and kept it. And that's why I don't know much about it, yet:)

Have a safe weekend, Everybody. Hug your family if you live with them. And say "I Love You" to those you can't.

Kristie | 5928 comments Comments from Jane Woods:

"I always find this hard to understand when I hear people say that they are reading several books at once. Well I am an author who not only writes but loves reading books too. But to do a book justice surely one at a time please. It’s hard to keep the continuity going and story plot in my head if too many stories are on the go.
Who agrees with me?
"

"Another question: who likes reading a story with animals as the main characters? Not fictional made up creatures but real animals you can relate to.
I am specifically asking about Wolves. Do you think they are naturally bad, because children’s stories have always depicted them in a bad light. The evil wolf, and over the decades and centuries it has stuck. Even in film animation they are cast the villain, but in truth it’s man who is bad, the exploiters of all things.
"

Jane - I deleted your original comments because they contained self-promotion and that is only allowed in the promotional threads. However, I do want people to be able to discuss with you if they choose, so I reposted the non-promotional parts. Please leave off the self-promotion parts in future posts.
