Kristie | 5928 comments How is everyone doing today? I was up early this morning and just thinking that I can't believe it's almost May. March seemed to drag so long this year, but April just flew on by like usual. Maybe I'm settling into this strange new lifestyle.

It's supposed to be nice out here today but cloudy. I'm really hoping for some sunshine. I may sit outside with a book, since I've finally started reading again and I think if I'm motivated enough, I might try to complete a project or two.

message 154: by Groovy (last edited Apr 30, 2020 01:38PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Hey, Coco!

Naoko, it's still chilly here, too, but getting warmer every day. I'm so sick of cold weather I don't know what to do.

Kristie, I think March seemed to drag by because that's when the world was hit with the reality of the Coronavirus. Ever since then, it feels like we're living in an apocalyptic era--everyone walking around with masks on their faces; hoping when you go to the store you'll get most of everything on your list--like toilet paper--can't hug or stand close....

Hopefully by this time next year the world will be back to normal, as troublesome as that is--LOL. I'm so glad Spring is here and I'll get to plant my garden, and sit outside on my patio at night. I'm going to try and read more, too.

I hope all of you are doing well and will be able to enjoy the warm weather despite this pandemic. Now pets are getting it--wow.

I saw that. Christine. That is great. I've just started reading again. I was in a slump and not reading much for a month or 6 weeks, but I've started picking up my books again. I'm glad to be back to reading!

Groovy Lee I forgot to mention that for a long time I've wanted to speak French. So I'm taking French lessons, and I can speak French now. I'm still at the infant stage, but I can hold a small conversation:)

Have a safe weekend, Everyone:)

Cool that you're learning a new language! I only speak one, but I'd like to learn American Sign Language one day, and maybe brush up on some Spanish that I learned in high school.

Groovy Lee What? I didn't know there was a Star Wars day--LOL!

I think those are amazing movies, but I just can't get into the newer ones. The ones made in the 70's are my favorites:)

message 183: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Welcome, Judith, Thenumi, and Jean:)

Here in Tenn. (USA), businesses are starting to open up with social distancing rules.

Now that I've put my writing on hiatus, I would love to get back into reading. I'm a clean suspense writer, so I'm looking for clean suspense novels with interesting characters to read. And I'm crazy about children's books:)

message 184: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Our businesses are getting ready to do the same here, Groovy. I'm excited for things to get back to normal, but it's kind of scary too.

Jean, sure. Send me a request. :)

Kristie | 5928 comments Thanks, Christine! Happy Memorial Day to you too. Are you doing anything to celebrate? We are having a cookout here, but it is only the three of us, so not much of a celebration really.

message 188: by AT (new)

AT Demeter | 48 comments Hi, this is Ashlynne, a newsie to this group. Happy Memorial Day! As of now, I guess we won’t be doing anything to celebrate. You see, my parents are gone with Dad’s parents to Pawleys Island, SC for Dad’s 43rd birthday (his b-day is on May 24); they’ll be gone for a couple days, so no party today. But I hope everyone is having much luck even though Covid-19 still thrives.
BTW, has anyone ever read Ted Dekker’s The Priest’s Graveyard or Deception by Shirley Yoshinaka? They are highly recommended and I would hands-down vote them as Best Summer Reads.

message 189: by Groovy (last edited May 26, 2020 01:29PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Hi, Ashlynne and welcome.

Those books sound interesting. I'm going to give a look. Right now, I'm about to start reading V.C. Andrews "Flowers In The Attic" and the sequel to it. I've wanted to read those stories for years. I hear she's good.

So, Everyone, I finally found a bicycle. I thought I'd never get one this year. What's up with the shortage? Anyway, I really need to exercise. And I thought, what better way than riding around the neighborhood on 'Cindefella' (that's his name:)

Besides reading, what's everyone else doing to keep their hearts beating?

STAY SAFE! STAY HEALTHY! By the look of the crowds celebrating the holidays, there are a lot of people who aren't taking this virus serious.

message 190: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Welcome to the group, Ashlynne!

Congrats on getting a bike, Groovy! That'll be a fun way to stay fit. I used to ride a lot when I was younger but haven't been on a bike in years.

I am pretty much being a slug... I haven't done very much for exercise and I've been slacking on my diet and I feel it. Time to start working on my health again.

Kristie | 5928 comments I think I may get an apple watch. I haven't decided, but I think I'd like some type of fitness band at least. I have an old fitbit that I don't really wear anymore. I know the apple watch offers a lot more. Any one have any fitness bands that they really like? Does it have nay special features you enjoy?

message 195: by AT (new)

AT Demeter | 48 comments Thanks to you, Kristie and Christine, for the hearty welcome. Can you believe summer will be here in a few weeks? Who knows how that will affect Covid-19?
Anyway, I am now reading a nonfiction book by Connie Neal called What’s a Christian to Do with Harry Potter? I read it before, but want to re-read it again. The author is a Christian but she herself loves Harry Potter - she wrote this book to help Christians understand the concerns like-minded people have about the series and even exposes the false rumors that, sadly, many Christians have mistakenly believed about the books and their author. Quite entertaining, enlightening, and an eye-opener for me the first time I read it.
Can anyone recommend to me clean dystopian fiction? I know about Hunger Games (though I haven’t read it) and Divergent, but I’m curious to know if there are others I can read that are worthwhile and decent.

message 196: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Welcome, Rachel!

message 197: by AT (new)

AT Demeter | 48 comments Well, Rachel, I admit I am not gay, so I can’t say I would know of any lgbtq books to recommend. But I have no doubt The Miseducation of Cameron Post must be enthralling. And I thank you for answering my question about book recommendations. I’ll check out Warcross, to be sure. 😊
Btw, out of curiosity, since I’ve met before a couple people like you (one of them a cousin), how long have you been gay? How old are you? Of course, you don’t have to answer if it’s personal.
