Collect Them All Challenge

Collect books with different types of creatures to make your own zoo. Creature only needs to be mentioned in the book. One creature per book to prevent depopulation of the local book species.

Add additional cages to your zoo if you find new animals.

Duration Open

Rules

Steps must be completed in order or the animals will escape! Once a specific region has been created animals from that area may be added at any time if there's an open habitat.

You may add your own animals for a category if you find new species in the wild or even create entirely new regions for your zoo to bring in tourists from all over the world!

Step 1: Create your zoo. Choose a name for your zoo. Then use Spell-It-Out, Word-It-Out or a combination to make it official.

Step 2: Create your first region. Use Spell-It-Out, Word-It-Out or a combination to spell the name of the region.

Step 3: Add habitats to your region. Read a series #'d book in order to add habitats. Each region starts with the first book. (Example: To add 5 habitats to the Africa region read the first book in a series, followed by the second book in the same or a different series, followed by the third, forth and fifth. Then to add 3 cages in the House Pets region, read a first, second and third book in order.)

Option: To decrease difficulty, you may read series numbers that add up to the cage number you wish to add. (Example: Read a series #3 and series #4 to add cage #7.)

Step 4: Find your animals! Read books that mention each of the animals to acquire them for your zoo.

Optional Features
Optional features may be added any time after a region has been created. Each feature may be added to as many regions as you would like. Repeat the task to add one to another region. Specify which region you are adding the feature to when completing the task.

• Lamp - Read a book with "lamp" or "light" in the title or one that deals with the topic of darkness.
• Popcorn Stand - Read a book with "Pop", "Corn", or "Stand" in the title or a book that has a bright yellow cover.
• Kids Ride - Read a book with "kid", "children", or "child" in the title or one that focuses on childhood or children.
• Restaurant - Read a book with a food in the title or one where the main character owns or works at a restaurant.
• Gift Shop - Read a book with "gift" or "present" in the title or one where the main character is wishing for something or receives a gift from someone else.
• Landscaping - Read a book with flowers on the cover or one where the main character is a gardener or cares for a garden.
• Specialized Animal Caretaker - Read a book where a main character is a vet or one that has an animal on the cover.

Glossary

Spell-It-Out: Read books to spell out the word(s) using
◈ the first letter in the book's title
◈ the first letter in the series
◈ the first letter in the author's first or last name
◈ the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name

As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

Word-It-Out: Using only one word from the title, author's name or series name of each book you read, connect it to a word in the phrase you selected.

I have a question. For the habitats and cages where we have to read series books, for the higher numbers can we split them using different series numbers>

Example: #7
Instead of reading a #7 series book can I read a #3 and a #4 to make seven?

I ask because most of the series I read don't go past 3 or 4 books.

I'll add that as an option to decrease difficulty. The only rule I'm resistant to changing is the order requirement since collecting the animal before there's a place to put them doesn't work real well.

You can work on multiple regions at the same time. Zoo gets named first, then region made, then cage, then animal. So you can finish Africa and still be working on farm. You can also make a cage, capture an animal then make the second cage. You just can't capture 2 animals in only one cage but you can queue up a few empty cages in case you find animals.
